Sucks to have lost it in the shootout but it could have been a lot worse.

I thought the team looked good. They came out in the first few minutes with a lot of jump and had a lot of good opportunities. Some of the new guys seemed to be doing well, especially Tim Gleason. I didn't like the Jack Johnson trade, but I liked what I saw from Gleason tonight. And i'm still wishing we hadn't resigned David Tanabe.

If nothing else, the Leafs lost tonight thanks to the solid goaltending of Marty Gerber for the Sens. Can't wait for the first Canes vs Sens game.

damn you CH 315. b/c of your bs homework, i missed watching opening night. well i went to Amedeo's for dinner around 7 or so. then came back and figured if i worked real hard i could finish it and still catch all of the 3rd period. unfortunately i came into a problem with the a couple of the problems, which ate up valuable time. this resulted in me turning the tv on just in time to see the end credits.

yea he did but it looked like our players were not even trying to shake him out of position they went straight at him. the sabre players were moving all over the place. and daniel briers goal was freaking nasty.

I honestly have no idea why Whitney didn't try to pop Miller when he bobbled on his edge, but whatever. Staal is more a release and placement guy, not a big deke guy, so the shootout has never been his forte. I'm surprised Cole didn't hit the post, since it's his favorite thing to do in the whole world on breakaways and penalty shots.

Briere's shot was absolutely gorgeous. Cam covered all the lateral ground he was supposed to, and Briere roofed it between his body and the post in a space that couldn't have been more than six inches wide.

I can't believe Matt Cullen didn't teach anybody his move.

Thank God hockey is back.

I think the Canes/Sabres games are going to be the best to watch for the entire season- they are very well matched.

I love it that in two games in one night there was a shootout the toronto game had a pen. shot.

Gonna be a great season.

It wasn't Cam's fault, can't really blame him. Tips are hard as hell to predict/block. Devils have always been able to tip relatively good, and there they go. It's how they win their games. Plus we just didn't look like we wanted it tonight, didn't get a good feeling out of the game.

Yeah, so wow. I totally felt bad for Cam on this one. I really really wish that this slaughter could have happened to Grahme. Two words Patrick -- Elias A goal and two penalties. He is going to continue to carry this Devils team. As for Carolina, like someone said earlier, their defense killed them. It's pretty bad when I am saying that Glen Wesley looked good compared to the rest. David Tanabe is a HUGE liability for the Canes. He was missing pucks, not moving his feet and just looked like total ass. For the Devils I spent a good deal of time yelling at Johnny Madden. From what I saw he took 18 face-offs and won 3.....(two of them against Brindy! ) [Looking at the official stats he was 8-23 which is still 35%, the lowest of anyone]. He looked like he was figure skating out there. I don't know if it was first game back gitters or what but I expect a much better performance from him. The Canes were putting pucks on net (eventually) so that was fine, but they have to help Cam out. He made some nice saves. The penalties were a bit one sided. Brindy got dumped on his head and nothing was called. A few moments later a Devils player gets tossed and Commodore player goes to box for tripping. Come on refs....
In all it was a fun first two periods. The third was slow and uneventful. I just really want the Canes to step it up from here out.
