Yeah, I’ll pay... If you don't want to pay then you can just do Dist'b for sections that aren't sold..

If you really care about going it would be worth paying for tickets"

I hated this concept as a student, and still hate it after years of forking over $$ for my LTRs.

EVERY student pays a fee in their tuition for the right to go to games. If they want to charge for season tickets, fine; but they better damn well get rid of the fee if they do so. I hated the whole concept of the SWPC when I was a student, and this is just a variant on that idea...

Yes, other schools charge for tickets... but most don't charge $119/year to each student for the "chance" to get tickets to each game and then charge them even more if they actually get them.

Students are already paying more to support Athletics than they are for transportation. And while I'm not opposed to that system; if each student is contributing that much to Athletics, they should have an equal shot at tickets.

you can just pay for tickets and not have to deal with the dist'b . . . it is called buying season tickets, which are $265. They had a whole bunch of em for sale in the beginning of August.

I've already posted this 10 times, but I'll do it again to clear it up....your fees DO NOT going to paying for student tickets, student sections, student parking, etc. In fact, the requirement that you pay your fees is only for the purposes of defining what a student is. But athletics is bound by law to spend their fee on items other than student tickets, student sections, student parking. And if you just pay $1 in fee money each year total, you are eligible, as long as that is all that you were charged, so the $119 is not an actual requirement.

Now, I'm agreeing with you though that every student should have an equal opportunity for tickets, which is why there is not a reward system in place for tickets yet

and we'd just close the gate/lines for the gates that have given out the number of stamps allowed....what do you think about that?"

if they have to do the whole stamp thing, this sounds like the best idea

^^ Totally. It'll de-clutter the lines and give folks who actually like the endzones/section 15 the chance to sit there.

I can't believe this shit has spread all the way to the Observer. So what if someone pissed in the stands, just shut the fuck up and tell a cop and have that person removed. This whole situation has turned into nothing but campus politics and it's bullshit.

http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/sports/colleges/15633266.htm

Quote :
"N.C. State aims to keep students from urinating in stadium seats
ELIZABETH DUNBAR
Associated Press

RALEIGH, N.C. - The student sections at college football games are usually a little unruly, but student leaders at North Carolina State University just want the urinating to stop.

And the problem isn't just a rowdy bunch of intoxicated fans. Students say efforts aimed at preventing overcrowding in the student section at Carter-Finley Stadium led some fans, worried about being allowed back to their seats, to stay put during the Wolfpack's upset win last weekend against Boston College.

"They didn't want to leave the section to go to the bathroom," said student body president Will Quick. Complaints about urinating and vomiting in the stands soon followed.

N.C. State uses an online ticketing system that allows students to print their tickets at home. They enter the stadium by scanning a bar code on the ticket, but enter their assigned seating section by showing the ticket to an usher. Quick said many students make copies of the tickets for the main student section so that they can sit with their friends, who may be assigned to a less favorable section.

And so when staff and police officers announced the section was full during last weekend's 17-15 win against the Eagles, some students opted to remain in the stands - no matter what.

"It was a bad image for N.C. State and for students," said Quick, adding that he was especially disappointed that it happened during Parents' Weekend. "We're not all like that."

John Dailey, assistant director for the campus police, said officers have worked hard to assist event staff in preventing overcrowding.

"It had been closed off because of safety reasons," Dailey said. "If I were a student and had a legitimate ticket, I would be upset too."

A remedy is already in the works for N.C. State's game against Florida State on Oct. 5.

"The plan now is to add a hand stamp to designate where a student is eligible, so it's not something you can pass off to someone," said Dick Christy, N.C. State's interim associate athletic director, who oversees ticketing and marketing. He said the plan will likely be finalized Friday or Monday.

Students would need the combination of the hand stamp and the ticket to enter their assigned section, Christy said.

Quick said the first student ticket-holders who show up at the games will get a stamp that assigns them to the main student section. Those who arrive later will be given end zone or upper level seats, he said.

Not everyone is convinced the hand-stamping will ease the problems.

Brian Simorka, a senior and board member of the student Wolfpack Club, said he's seen athletics event staff try a variety of methods to manage the student section. There will always be fans who come to football games drunk and unruly, he said.

"It's really hard to control all that. I think they do the best job they possibly can with the circumstances," he said.

"every system will create "problems" for atleast some people. It is impossible to please everyone."

That is a terrible excuse. It is their job to get it right. No, they can't please everyone, but they should try to please as many as they can. The real problem is that they are not trying to please anyone. Their solutions so far have followed this formula: 1. change everything, 2. wait for next problem.

Here is what I don't get:

Quote :
"One of the proposals at the meeting also involved stamping only
sections 7 & 8. Unfortunately, this would require a different method of
scanning the tickets where the event staff person would have to compare
the ticket to the scanner to verify and then pass off only valid section
7 or 8 patrons to the stampers. This creates a significant addition to
our processing time and due to our goal of expediting the student
entrance process we abandoned this suggestion."

Am I reading this right? "We can match tickets to sections, but that would take too much time." If they wanted to expedite the student entrance process, why did they make us dance for the security staff?
We have all of the tools to make the old way work. Fuck that, let's do something fresh and new WOOHOO!

Athletics and the committee that made the changes doesn't get to choose how the security is run...campus police does...and while it seems only students have been targeted, they have the same policy at every gate...they have promised to enforce it on everyone from now on, but from seeing the type of weapons they confiscated from students the other day, I won't be complaining about the security any time soon

The only people that this policy pisses off are the ones that want to get drunk before the game. I'm sorry if it's too hard for you to decide between watching your school play in good seats sober and watching your school play in bad seats drunk.

personally, if I hadn't already volunteered to help at the gates, I woudl drink at home and have a friend bring me to the game...
so I could do both

and yeah, they have been checking people more strictly this year, and it has kept a lot of weapons out of the stadium...there are the normal things like box cutters, fixed blade knives, and then there's random things...one guy had a wine bottle cork screw rigged to be a fixed weapon

I got a ticket, i'm going to go wait in line now!

And this policy doesn't piss off just the people that want to get drunk. I don't want to go into the stadium an hour and a half before the fucking game. Have a little foresight too, think about the first game of the year in August next year, when its 1000 degrees out. Enjoy sittin in that heat for an hour and a half before the game.

I've yet to hear anyone who is happy about this. I just want to sit in the new endzone(which was practically empty last game) and be left alone with my 50 person block.

^^^^
no...we wanted wristbands, but because of the fact that wristbands really would slow the lines down, and would still allow people to losely attach them so you could slip them off and hand them to friends, it was shot down by campus safety and operations

^we actually have gotten about the same amount of response supporting it as against it...but of course there's no reason why people would support something on TWW...and they're working on the minor change that may make all this work and allow you to choose your section (priority given to those who get there early, but you would get to choose a section)...and I sat out there in 1000 degree heat in august to get a front row seat in 112, so I know what it feel like...and if you can't stand the heat, then you aren't dedicated to getting a good seat...tough

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply the fees were specifically for tickets. My only point is that students already contribute quite a bit to the Athletics department. And as far as I'm concerned, it's what gives students the right to free tickets (even if the money isn't specifically marked for that purpose).

When you click on print ticket, it'll open up a webpage with the ticket on it. You can open it as many times as you like. I always just click file, save as so I'll still have the ticket in case the system craps out at the last minute.

^did you use firefox to request?

V it's just an html file. I save it and open it in word. That way I can delete all the unnecessary writing and the ad.

so you have to choose between heat stroke or a bad seat?

it is sad that a system couldn't be created that pleases more then "about the same amount supporting it" which to me sounds like not even half the students. this whole thing is just a result of the students that were so desperate to sit in section 7. if people weren't so damn obsessed with sitting there we wouldn't need to go through all this.

c'mon, a heat stroke? go stand in the shade; you've already got your "priveledge". and basically, if other people are willing to have a heat stroke just to have better seats than you then they deserve it.

I would say it had more to do with drunks who chose to piss/vomit in the stands.

Well, there is no real excuse for the vomit, but if people are going to puke in the stands there is little a ticket system will do about that.

But the pissing was a result of the overcrowdedness(is that a word?) of section 7. So people sneak their way into section 7, they close off section, people don't want to leave because they can't get back in, thus they stay at seats and piss. that is the series of events, so i restate my point that this is just a result of students that couldn't just sit in their assigned seats.

we are just getting closer and closer to having no tailgate. this just cuts it down another hour, i'm sure the administration loves the idea.

Fair enough, and I'm not saying that students were targeted. But the bottleneck that I saw was at the security, not the scanners.
Will there be anything done to speed up security?

yeah, I made the suggestion today to use each of our 4 gates for each of the four section areas we will now be stamping...waiting to hear back from security about their willingness to help direct people....if you walk that through, you will basically have some seats left in each section even w/ 30 minutes before kickoff, because some people dont' like 7/8, some like other sections more...if they are allowed to choose other sections, then that leaves seats open in every section for groups to coordinate and come when they can

but as far as security goes, the people who are working our security from now on have been certified as professional security guards, and have been trained to be as efficient as possible...I agree that that is where the bottleneck occurs, and we have all mentioned that...they are working on more staffing for more lines, etc, to speed that process up, but I never know how that will work until we see it on gameday
