I watched the Gamespot.com broadcast thing last night and they had a bunch of video in from the event in San Fransisco, and now i'm much more pumped about the system. There is so much being offered by this system that just blows the 360 out of the water. mainly that almost all the games so far are goign to be in 1080p. The difference between 1080p and 720p/1080i is pretty huge (look it up).

Blueray is going to be awesome, and I'm pretty sure it is going to beat out HD DVD, we'll see though. The PS3 is going to come with Talledega Nights on BlueRay (first 500,000 systems). Also, the downloadable games actually look pretty fun, and they also run in 1080p, which is mega sweet.

The system runs very quietly, and looks to be pretty efficient overall. I think off the bat the graphics will look very similar to 360 (except for those that have 1080p tvs), but the graphics will get turned up over time as developers use the ps3 technology more at its potential.

By the way, not sure about having to buy an official hdmi cable (although I wouldn't be surprised). The hdmi output on the back of the ps3 looks just like any other one I've seen, and they are just a digital cable. http://www.ps3land.com/images/ps3galleryleipzig06/Img3511.jpg

the simple reason i dont want a ps3 is because of the lack of games, if in 1 year they had some killer games, then maybe...its really just that simple, all the games on the 360 have had a year to build up, dont think that all of the sudden the ps3 version of madden will be just as in depth as the xbox and ps2 versions.

i just havent seen anything that has wowed me yet. i got a 360 cuz i liked xbox the best last generation and wanted to continue on in certain franchises (halo, doa, elder scrolls, etc). the final fantasy demos were nice, but i havent played one seriously since 7.

games I'm looking forward to on PS3:

Resistance - 40 players online sounds fantabulous, also i like co-op offline (more FPS should do this!) Looks like it also has some pretty cool weapons.

Lair - Factor 5 is developing it. Looks great.

Tekken 6 - I know, I know. I just love the Tekken series though, and I'm hoping they give us interactive environments with this one (pretty please?)

MotorStorm - not really a huge fan of 'offroad' or 'atv' games in general. But man, this one looks really good. I can' t really compare to any other offroad games, but I was really impressed by the looks of this one. Physics look really solid, too from what I've seen.

Just thought I'd add - Sony seems to really be acting in a non-Sony way with this console so far:


-Support a variety of audio formats
-Accepts non-proprietary 2.5" HDs
-No expensive memory cards, instaed you can use any format you like (they're not even forcing memory stick pro duos!)
-You can rip music from CDs
-Sounds like you can use a variety of Bluetooth devices w/PS3 (including headsets, keyboards, mice..)

what i mean is, i would've expected them to completely lock everything down.



and one of the biggest bonuses for me: PS3 to PSP streaming. It'll be nice to be able to pull video off my PS3 via WiFi. Buy a PS3, get a slingbox free!

^this is true. However, it is conceivable that with the advent of the (true) video iPod, people will start being more tuned in to portable video. At that point, PS3 will already be pretty well established. So as a consumer, I can buy a video iPod (sure to cost $texas) or get a PSP that can do essentially the same thing, but better (streaming). And it also plays games as a bonus.


I generally despise Sony as a company (I've always been a fan of their consoles though), but I think they may actually be making some smart moves here. If consumer electronics develop in the obvious ways over the next ~5 years, I think Sony will be in a great position to get their slices of all kinds of multimedia pie.

only issue i have with that is that they arent marketed as competitors. smart/informed consumers may choose the ps3, but the kinds of people buying video ipods are probably NOT going to drop it in leiu of a psp.

that said, i agree sony has made some good moves (though i still hate their controller). time will tell how that works out for them.

I think it's silly to say that companies are ripping off companies or whatever. This has been happening since the begining of time. I mean, do you think everyone was pissed when nintendo came out, saying it was ripping off Atari's console idea? How about when the Gamegear came out. just a rip off of Nintendo's gameboy? Sure, but it is all aboout the market and how to be able to compete.

The Sixaxis thing is still a lot different than what the Wii is doing. Wii is banking on everything using movement for almost all aspects of the game. The PS3 addition is just adding some depth to the standard controller.

I wouldn't say that PS3 is ripping off XBOX Live either because this has really been the idea for years and years, to have consoles be connected, and be able to shop online with them. Sony was the first console to go online actually, with XBox following. sure they had the Live community, but this was always the idea.

Companies have good ideas, and other companies have to company in some sense or to some degree to be able to compete.

From what I have read, Madden for the PS3 has everything the 360 has, adn the graphics are pretty much identical. The PS3 version is having more textured grass apparently, and PHYSICS BASED GANG TACKING, which is really awesome if it is infact physics based, but we'll see.

Thing is though, it's still EA, and they are going to do the bare minimum since there is no competition anymore now that they have exclusive rights to the NFLPA (total bullshit).

You think its silly? That is what Sony DOES.

Nintendo gets all sorts of beef for delaying announcements (wheras Microsoft tends to spout out all sorts of things no matter how minor). This is why they do it. They kept their controller secret so that no one else would try to copy them. Don't you think it is strange that in one of the first big conferences after Nintendo revealed their controller, Sony revealed a very similar idea, one never mentioned before even though they had already shown their controller? Not to mention that the Sony controller basically had no games to support it. It was such a "lets copy them fast and implement it fully later" cop out it was painful (hence all the booing).

Nintendo was not a "rip" off of Atari. Game Gear was not a "rip" off of Gameboy. Those products had been on shelves for years before the next bunch came out. Sony immediately copied the Nintendo controller idea before it even came out.

But whatever really. It was just a statement to show that Sony may be different in some aspects, but they definitely haven't changed completely.

im not being a 360 fanboy but i havent seen any reason to switch over to sony...the game are basically the same as the 360 games that have had longer to develop...theres been numerous reports about AA on the ps3 and that games are very jaggy...bluray or 1080p = dont matter that much to the basic user...and sony's online has never been close to microsofts...

so tell me a reason why i should want the ps3 instead of a 360?

well 1080p has more than 2x the amount of pixels on screen than 720p, and I for one have a 50" 1080p ready tv, so I think it will be pretty sweet. I have one preordered, but I might end up selling it, depending on how much money its going to go for.

I think that the 360 and the PS3 are doing the same thing when it comes to that stuff. They have both been attackinh eachother, mudlsinging, and both fanbases have their fanboys or whatever posting shit and being obnoxious. In the end who freaking cares which system wins and all that? Hopefully they will both be very successful and continue to compete with eachother to makes things better for the customers.

I'm not sure how much any of the stuff coming out is propaganda though...
