Saw it last night, it was kick ass. It certainly didn't feel like three hours. The second movie dragged on a bit but the stunts were incredible. I loved how cheesy the first movie was with the drama, the over emphasized one liners, and the fake gore. The car wreck in the second one was painful to watch, shit was real looking too. As well as the knife into the vag. Not as much nudity as I thought, was hoping Rose McGowan would show dem tittays but alas.

I'd definitel recommend it to everyone.

i like how people are making excuses for this sorry ass movie.

personally, i have no problem with the length of the movie. i just think it sucks, especially tarantino's film.

one question: what kind of stuntman cries like a pussy over a flesh wound?

Im not making excuses, Ive yet to see it....I have no idea if its as great as some say or as awful as others say...but the running time being the problem is the general consensus of the people that made it

That being said, I doubt people arent seeing it because it sucks. How would they know if it sucks or not if they havent seen it? Box office gross does not indicate whether a movie is worth seeing or not...ever heard of The Shawshank Redemption? Fight Club?

I thought it was funny that he was such a god damn pussy but liked hunting down and killing pretty ladies. I mean they really drew out the fact that he couldn't handle pain worth shit.

I'd like to go to that bar they were in.

^^ Both bars they were at are real bars in Austin.

Runtime is such a fucking bullshit argument. OH NOES, I CAN'T SIT STILL FOR THREE HOURS! LET'S SEE WILD HOGS INSTEAD!

The fact is that the people who want to see this have already seen it or are planning to. I don't think anyone who's really interested is turned off by runtime.

If Bob and Harvey are pissed about the take, that's fine. I don't think splitting them (especially after five days) is a good idea, but when I go again, I'm skipping Planet Terror anyway.

Quote :
"So how did Grindhouse tank?

The movie took in $11.6 million, less than half of what was expected. It was considered a lock to be this weekend's No. 1, but it came nowhere close to Blades of Glory and Meet the Robinsons, two comedies already in their second week.

"We expected to do $20 million," says Harvey Weinstein of the Weinstein Co., which released Grindhouse. "Obviously, there was resistance in some parts of the country."

That resistance may stem from what got the $53 million movie so much exposure in the first place. Studio executives and industry analysts say a few factors may have led to the disappointing opening:

•It's a double feature.Grindhouse is two movies in one: Rodriguez's zombie film Planet Terror and Tarantino's Death Proof. It also includes faux trailers, missing reels and scenes made to look spliced and worn. "You have to give them credit for trying something experimental," says 20th Century Fox's distribution executive Bert Livingston. "But that also carries some risk."

•It's long. At more than three hours, Grindhouse was going to test the patience of even diehard fans of the directors and genre. "Let's face it: Attention spans are a lot shorter," DreamWorks' Marvin Levy says. "Anything over 90 minutes, and people can start getting fidgety."

•It's a questionable genre. An homage to a beloved genre like the musical or Western is one thing. But grindhouse movies — whose plots often included women in prison, serial killers and karate brawls — were, for the most part, bad. "Ultimately, they're re-creating something known for niche audiences and for not being a hit at the box office," says Paul Dergarabedian of industry tracker Media By Numbers. "That can scare off a large portion of your audience."

Weinstein, though, is hardly folding the tent. The film played well on the coasts, he says, but weakly in the South and Midwest. He plans to develop new ad campaigns for those regions and send his stars and filmmakers there for more publicity.

And Weinstein says that because the movies will be released separately on DVD, "we need to change strategy and educate audiences that the Grindhouse experience will only be in theaters. It's too early to call the fate of this movie.""

I think releasing it on easter weekend wasn't the best idea either.

maybe some adults that wanted to see it went to say... meet the robinsons with their families instead

complaining about runtime is retarded, IT IS A DOUBLE FEATURE, what the fuck do you expect.

but i do think that having deathproof play second was a horrible choice, and makes it seem even longer than it is. Planet Terror was nonstop action, then you slam on the breaks with deathproof which crawls along at a snails pace 2/3s of the movie. if you put Death Proof 1st, it ends with a lot of action, leads right into the type of film Planet Terror is.

i almost didn't go see the movie because of the runtime... i have a bad habit of falling asleep after 2.5 hours...

so i can understand runtime being a factor, but not the only factor in why people don't see it...

i think a big factor is that this is a "do you GET IT" movie experience, and a lot of people don't feel like they have the time or the inclination to "GET IT"... frankly, i don't blame them, movie experiences shouldn't be based around the notion of understanding what the director(s) are doing beforehand, but about enjoying what you see in front of you, and a lot of people don't realize that they're actually going to enjoy what they see...

I wasn't really interested in the movie until I found out what a Grindhouse was and information about the trailers in between. It looked really stupid when the trailers first came out but then as I learned that was their intention I started to fall in love.

I mean what the fuck is hotter then some gorgeous woman shooting a gun into the ground to throw herself into the air? Or some hot ass bitches slamming a fine car into a whiney pussy then chasing him down with a pole in the "I will fuck you up mother fucker" way?

Hot!!

^ I know your game mister.

Saw this movie last night, I was very pleased.

Planet Terror: Great cheese gore. The music, special effects, and story all remind me why I have a passion for old horror movies. There was def a Rodriguez flare to it however, with the knife and gun play. The mini-bike was hilarious.

Death Proof: It was a twilight zone episode sprinkled with old car chase movies of the 70's and Tarantino's flare for dialogue. The stunts blew me away and the ending had me going wtf immediately followed by laughter.

First time in a while that I felt as if I got full value for the ticket price.

9/10 for Grindhouse

8/10 for Planet Terror

8.5/10 for Death Proof

i watched the first 40 minutes last night...basically right up to where the doctor in the hospital has the guy coming at him with the little circular saw and he accidentally unplugs it...good flick so far...crazy!

also go back to the picture in the first post of this thread where mcgowan has the gun on her left leg? isnt it her right leg in the flick?

I still want to know where that scar came from.

And I want to know what happened to him when he was explaining his background.

It almost seems like he started killing because of those chicks kicking his ass.

good flicks i enjoyed them

death proof starts off slow but its pretty good...i was thinking at one point that zoe herself was death proof, and perhaps she was?

fergie's role wasnt too long and at least she had her titties popping out

the music during the intros and intermissions was off the chain

el rey/wray was a fucking badass

the kung fu style ending to death proof had me lmao'ing

it was cool how the hospital scene in death proof tied into rodriguez's flick

was rodriguez himself in either movie? i obviously noticed tarantino but dont know what rodriguez looks like

See, its possible to live through that.

Reasons for my theory.

He didn't have the cage in his car in the second half.

He totaled his car in the second half.

Getting his ass kicked by those females gives him a reason for going ape shit on the girls from the first half.

When talking about his back story(in the first half), he passes over some event that was obviously very disturbing to him, which I believe is the events of the second half.

In the second half, he didn't seem to be crazy psycho killer, just out-of-work-crazy-looking-for-some-fun-so-im-going-to-race-these-chicks-I-found. First half, hes just balls out gonna kill your ass.

^^ Tarantino's gimmick movies? What the fuck are you on about? You could argue that his piece in Four Rooms is part of a gimmick film, but this certainly isn't. The disappointing take in the first week has to do with releasing a three hour, ultra-violent niche film on Easter weekend, not people tiring of one of the world's best directors. If people were tired of Tarantino, Kill Bill wouldn't have grossed $331 million worldwide.

Maybe people are tired of Robert Rodriguez's "gimmick" movies.
