down 3 at the half

zone looked really good. they're winning from the perimeter though. but that's the risk you take for playing zone.

Jeff had 2 early fouls and sat out for 10+ minutes of the first half (but still has 8 pts). derek has 7 pts

gotta cut down on the TOs and convert the layups in the 2nd half....oh and make Oregon commit even more stupid fouls. one of their starters already has 3

next game:

Saturday at 630 ET on FSN-AZ
Oregon State, the only other winless team in PAC-10

if ASU doesn't win that game, they very well could finish the season winless

win or lose, that was a great first half

a real confidence booster

good: Shipp for UCLA has 3 fouls
bad: Afflalo is heating up

so it was Collison who lit it up in the 2nd half

4-point play when it was a 2 point game, breakaway 3-point play then two shot clock beating 3's

that's the story of the game

and please don't talk shit about the Devils 2nd half performance unless you actually watched the game. the stats don't tell the story

Zona tonight

Herb would have instant god status if he can pull this upset, regardless if it's their only PAC-10 win of the season....FSN-AZ @ 930 ET

this got me excited:

The games I've seen they aren't running any kind of slowdown offense like he did here. They play with very high intensity on D (something I wish our team did) but are just simply not offensively talented... I mean they are downright disgusting to watch offensively. They have pretty much two guys that should get ANY playing time (Polk and Pendergraph) in a Power 6 conference.

The previous coach must have been completely inept considering Herb has a Top 15 class coming in and he didn't even get a jumpstart on the recruiting..

^luck had nothing to do with it. He just doesn't know how to draw up end game plays, relying too much on the 3. We would get behind or blow big leads by missing 3s, and we would lose games at the end by going for 3s and ignoring post scoring.

About to lose by 20 to #17 Arizona

I always liked that last second play where Archie Miller would try to drive for a lay-up. Or the Engin Atsur running 3-point attempt over a 7-foot guy.

I don't care too much for this thread or for Arizona State.... but... I gotta admit....

Nice going Herb. I guess he learned from his experience at NC State that he was boring as hell. A real breakthrough for him. I would have loved to see him go apeshit like that at NC State. Especially with some of the shitty officials he's dealt with.

yep, win or lose the ASU students absolutely love Herb

would the State student section all stay after the game was over if we were 0-11 in the ACC? I highly doubt it. Herb has made it a tradition after every game to go over to the students and thank them for cheering their asses off. he is probably the only 10-games-under-.500 coach in America who is adored by his faithful

not to be a dick, but exactly how long do you expect this to last? say he doesn't really have it rolling in two years, still adored?

tough loss last night. lost by 4 on the road to #13 Oregon

but held them ~25 points below their season average.

GAME OF THE YEAR is tomorrow! can ASU get its one and only win? 1-12 Oregon St. vs. 0-12 ASU

hate to say it, but the best way to get rid of underperforming coaching staffs is to not show up at the games. money talks.

Forget wins and losses.

The real questions here are:

1) Are they playing in daytight compartments?

2) Have they failed to score a point coming out of all timeouts?

3) Do they consistently attempt more threes than twos?

If the answer to those questions is yes then Arizona State is getting exactly what they signed up for.

it's easy to support a new regime change, especially when that coach overachieves. sidney is clearly overachieving at this point with the existing talent. he has overachieved if he doesn't win again.

looked like it was packed saturday

herb never beat a favored unc team except when he had cc harrison go lights out in 98

sid did it with a hurt pg and a 7 man lineup against a carolina team many picked to win it all = overacheivement

^^of course it was packed saturday....we were playing unc. if im not mistaken, that game and duke are the only sellouts we've had this year. if its so easy to support a new regime change, how come we aren't doing it?

this is not an herb or sidney debate...don't turn it into that. i merely brought up sidney to show that our fans don't show up regardless of what they think of the coach.

its a fans debate. our fans simply don't turn out in strong numbers unless we're winning or its a big game. its sad actually....especially for a school where the fans take pride in being so "passionate" about their teams.

last saturday was really the first game i have gotten into since we left reynolds, which is a whole other argument altogether.

but overall, i can see how the constant letdowns would create an apathetic fanbase.

exactly my point. we talk a lot about our pride and our passion, but our actions speak louder.

we simply arent the great and wonderful fanbase that we make ourselves out to be.

dunno if this is a testament to student attendance or my lousy luck, but my tickets for the UVA and Maryland games this year were and are in the 300 level. two years ago i was sideline for both. the only other times in college i've been in the 300 level were against unc and duke.
