no, credit Curt Cignetti and Dick Portee for keeping them here and blame TOB for firing Cignetti and Portee.

It's valid when he fires the two people who are responsible for keeping the recruiting class around and have been state football for a long time.

I wasn't talking about that but that is also true. I'm talking about what sports the best athletes tend to play in the 'home recruiting area.' High school football just isn't all that popular in New England. The best athletes are playing basketball or hockey or baseball over football a lot of the times. Not saying EVERY school is like that but a lot of the region is. Think about how many 3-5 * players come out of NC alone. The entire NE region pales in comparision to that... then think about how much NC pales in comparison to states like CA, TX, or FL...

I think that has a lot to do with why TOB left BC in the first place. BC is losing it's grip on the Northeast slowly every year. For the first time ever UConn, Rutgers, AND Syracuse all had better recruiting classes than BC according to most services. He knew as those programs continue to grow (most notably Rutgers and UConn) that BC will continue to lose more and more of the relatively slim pool to start..

^^ Do you realize what the fuck you are saying? You're basically ignoring the record TOB has compiled, and what he has done at BC when you go on these retarded rants. YOU REALIZE WE WERE 3 AND INFINITY LAST YEAR RIGHT?

He could fire everyone, have a heart attack, and have to speak through a machine and still produce a better result on the field than last year, at least that is what his record and history is telling me. He also did it with recruits half the caliber that we got. I think the man knows what he is doing, a shit ton more than some fucking hack on a message board. You look like a clown.

That's what I thought. You can't defend yourself to the domination I just dropped on you.

I've added this to my topics. We'll see how these recruits do, we'll see how recruiting in general progresses for NCSU next year.

Can't wait to see your bitch ass eat some crow.

weather has a lot to do with that. I wouldn't have enjoyed playing football in high school if half of our games were played in a blizzard and every game of the playoffs occurred on a field that was half mud and half ice.

Not to change the subject, but I was looking on statefans.com and saw that TA was only a 3-star RB coming out of high school...I figured he' d be at least a 4, if not 5 considering he had the TD record for NC at the time.

Dude, you have got to be the worst know-it-all of all time. Tom O'Brien has been in the business for years. You haven't. You have nothing to judge him by except for his exceptional record at BC.

He knows how to win on Saturdays. That's all that matters. When you become a college football coach or a recruiter- maybe you might one day "understand how shit works."

every game counts. last season he only lost 3 that counted. Amato lost 9. I know that you english majors struggle with math sometimes, but even that comparison should be simple enough for you to comprehend.

in a city that couldn't care less about college football.

recruits on average don't like going more than 6 hours from home. and new england sucks ass for football.

^^^^ He has won like 6 straight bowls or something.

The point though, is that I know how good his teams have been with lesser recruiting than ours.

But now that he is here, I would hope he will take advantage of the better recruiting grounds we have here, and not settle for the same type of players he had to at BC.

Ruiz has been working with John Matich, a former kicker at Boston College (1996-99). Matich played for O'Brien at Boston College and for Jerry Petercuskie, the assistant who was in charge of Boston College's special teams and who is now at N.C. State."

I guess that's why we "wasted" a scholarship on a juco punter...

"North Carolina State Names Archer Defensive Coordinator

Posted: Jan. 16, 2007
Updated: Jan. 17, 2007

RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina State hired former Kentucky defensive coordinator Mike Archer for the same position on Tuesday.

Archer, 53, coached at LSU from 1987-90 and later spent seven years coaching the Pittsburgh Steelers' linebackers under former North Carolina State player Bill Cowher.

He was the Wildcats' defensive coordinator for the past four seasons before leaving to join new Wolfpack coach Tom O'Brien's staff. His Jan. 9 resignation was widely reported, but neither school would confirm that he was joining the Wolfpack staff.

"Because of his many years of experience, both on the collegiate and professional levels, and his wealth of knowledge, I feel that he will make invaluable contributions to our program," O'Brien said.

This year Kentucky's total defense was 118th out 119th, Rush 108th, Pass 102nd.

Plus the UK defense last year was about 85% freshman and sophomores, but they created 28 TOs. I think Archer basically told them to play agressive and thus they gave up yards/points, but overall UK as a team had a good season and those TOs were a big part of it.

I do agree that we could have gotten someone better though.

I remember everyone said this when we hired Reggie Herring.

He did alright...we went from #114 in total defense to #1.

Give the guy a chance

archer also had a team that was under probation at UK. could anybody freakin coach a defense worth a damn in the SEC at UK while on probation?

good hire. i cant believe this thread is still going. shut the hell up already. TOB will be just fine, Archer will do just fine and we will finally have some fuckin discipline rather than a bunch of guy's who didn't get their wish of going to UF, the U, or FSU.

who'd you want in his place that always wins the big one? Did you think we were going to get Bill Belichick? Amato couldn't keep his players from jumping offsides and committing penalties "when it counts".

If you're thinking Paul Johnson would win the big one for you, then take a look back at his bowl game with that stupid play calling at the end. He had the game won and lost it with a stupid outside pitch.
