That study's flawed as hell.

It uses the House of Representatives to define politically neutral. Any coverage less conservative than the 2004 House of Representatives is considered "liberal."

I think we can all agree that the 2004 HoR was definitely not politically centrist.

kind of like how the study that "proved" that the fox news audience was less informed

of course, if they'd chosen different questions, its likely NPR's audience would have appeared just as misinformed.

studies to prove political points are stupid and worthless.

they did prove that they were less informed on the specific issues talked about. and they did prove that the more someone watched fox news the less likely they were to be correct on those specific issues. its not like they picked unimportant topics. Whether or not we found evidence linking Sadaam to 9-11 is a pretty big deal.

Second, its not "likely" at all. Its possible, and testable. But that is about it.

Make of this what you will: Apparently, NBC News will not release its list of contributors. In contrast, Fox News lists all contributors on its Web site. Does it matter?

^ I'm not sure. And there are differences among researchers, stringers, contributers, and so on--but sometimes the distinctions may be fine ones, I grant you.

Dude, I read a Fox News report directly stating that Pelosi requested the jet.

When in fact she had absolutely nothing to do with it.

it was something offered by the military originally to hastert after 9/11, because he was third in line if something happened (i think that decision was perfectly reasonable). they just kept the same procedures in place for her, which is, "if she wants transport on a military plane she is given room for herself and a limited number of staff so long as space is available and a plane is going that way.

"bigun20: I find it amusing that you can put all the evidence out there in the world (the 75% or so of articles/stories are negative about Iraq and Bush), but liberals will call Fox News bias....and only point to a handful of newscasts to prove their point. Its like in the other thread where I said if Fox is so bias then why dont we all watch the programs for a couple of weeks and record what we think is bias......and BridgetSPK's answer was "we dont have to prove it, it just is"."

If you're gonna say this shit about me, you gotta quote and link it, and I'd appreciate a heads-up via PM that you're inviting me into a thread that I haven't been actively involved in. "We don't have to prove it" sounds like something I'd say on this topic because, no, I'm not gonna waste my time on this bullshit. This thread in particular is full of ridiculous crap coming from everyone.

I'm more offended by the stuff coming from the liberals here. It makes me sick that some people in the party that I associate with can't stop talking about these uneducated, redneck, homophobic, NASCAR-loving, stupid, average Americans...I think it's really, really silly to characterize the "other side" like that because that's just not the case. Some liberals like to believe that if we could just educate these "backwards conservative voters," then they'd see the light and vote liberal. Bullshit. And that condescending attitude isn't going to pull in any votes either.

See, a lot of my extended family votes conservative. They don't like people telling them that they don't know what's good for them. They go to church and are big into charity. They value a strong military. They value hard work over formal education. They don't give a fuck if gays can't get married cause they aren't gay, and they don't see that affecting them at all (and they're right...it doesn't affect them.) They like their guns. They detest taxes and most of the government (there's a compelling historical explanation for this). They care about the environment, and probably do more for it than any Prius-driving poser. And they like to take care of things on their own: they'll grow their own food before they'll buy it at the super market, they'll borrow and lend things before buying crap they're gonna throw out after one use, and they'll start a community-wide boycott of any offending establishment at the drop of a hat. And they're justifiably wary of smooth-talking outsiders. They're not stupid, and they're far from average.

^^ No, it's more complicated than that. Somebody requested a significantly larger plane. Who made the request? The artful dodging--if such is the case--seems to have replaced the story of the larger plane.

FYI: I don't object to Pelosi having a large plane; the cost would be infinitesimal relative to the overall US budget. And Pelosi is third in the line of succession to the presidency; she deserves military protection and transport. Hell, if something ever happened to her, some people would be screaming about more security not having been provided.

^ PS: "If you're not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at forty you have no brain" (Sir Winston Churchill). Sounds like somebody's on the road to sociopolitical conversion!

The House Sergeant at Arms requested it. He believed the larger jet was appropriate for security reasons (no refueling needed for the trip from DC to CA)

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/02/09/pelosi.plane/index.html

Quote :
"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi did not request a larger plane for personal use to travel cross-country without stopping, Bill Livingood, the House sergeant at arms, said Thursday.

Livingood said the request was his, and he made it for security reasons.

"The fact that Speaker Pelosi lives in California compelled me to request an aircraft that is capable of making non-stop flights for security purposes, unless such an aircraft is unavailable," Livingood, who has been at his post for 11 years, said in a written statement.

"I regret that an issue that is exclusively considered and decided in a security context has evolved into a political issue," the statement said.

Pelosi is striking back against accusations she asked for a plane larger and more expensive than the one used by former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, a claim published last week in The Washington Times.

The Times article, headlined "Pelosi's Power Trip -- Non-stop Nancy Seeks Flight of Fancy," led the Republican National Committee to send out a research briefing and blast Pelosi on the House floor."

When is the Washington Times going to fire someone over this?

^^ You really should not have gone there. First, I copied and pasted the quotation at issue as I found it, which is what one is supposed to do. Second, the punctuation in question is correct; the construction is what is known as a "balanced sentence." (I would not expect you to know of it.) Witness the following example: "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" (John F. Kennedy). The comma acts as a fulcrum giving equal weight to each element of the sentence. Third, one should never hyphenate ly adverbs before ed adjectives as you did ("highly-educated" [sic]).

They call me the bus driver, because I WILL take you to school. BTW, pwnt.

PS: If I were writing such a sentence, I would use commas to indicate the if statements and I would use a semicolon. So, your instincts are good.
