ARod's shot FLEW off the bat, there was no doubt as soon as he made contact. I liked what I saw from Igawa.

He's always been capable of this. If you go back through my post history here (I know you won't, but you could), you'll see I've always said the Yanks need to keep him.
Not only can he do this, but if the Yankees let him go, he'll do this against NY EVERY TIME HE PLAYS THEM.

the man is a player. straight up one of the best of our time. the only thing holding him back is his "little guy" demeanor. i strongly believe the only reason why he "failed" to Yankees fans is b/c its all in his head.
and if i'm right, him knocking 10 long balls and 26 ribbits in 14 games means bad news for the AL East.
add - obligatory FUCK BOSTON.

he did get shited on during the regular season. mostly b/c he couldn't get it done when games were close. i went to +20 yankee games last year and he got booed quite a bit towards the last half of the season.

rivera always seems to struggle in the beginning of the season...I dont know why? maybe he doesnt get enough work in spring training?
A-Rod is the bomb, but I have a feeling we will get swept in this series....which isnt a big deal, I dont think the red sox can hit enough to beat us when we have wang and moose back. 4/20/2007 11:20:57 PM |

yeah, always at the beginning of the season...which is why the sox won the world series...the playoffs were at the beginning of the season when rivera blew those games
i love yankees fans - claim they're not worked up about blowing the best shot at a win in fenway for this series - like the sox series isn't the most important of the season no matter what the circumstances are...it's this kind of delusional behavior that make them think they didn't shit on a-rod except for the playoffs

^^^ for the last three years in a row, rivera has blown at least 2 saves in april. Yea he blew some saves against the sox in the playoffs, but hey, that's life. He's also been money in the playoffs more than any closer...pitcher....person...in history.
And I dont get how any series in april could be the most important of the year. Even if the yankees get swept, which they may very well do with the pitching matchups....there would still be 145 games for the yankees to make up 4 games in the standings.

Rivera is still one of baseballs best. Everybody screws up. He will rebound and opposing teams will once again curse his name and along with the rest of the evil empire of baseball.
I just cant beleive that the Yanks still cannot dominate like they should with that lineup and that payroll. I mean, yeah their pitching is questionable, but jesus its like an Allstar team out there playing every day and they still endup losing games and not winning the AL or WS. The Yankees are, IMO, the most underachieving team in all of sports. They bring a big gun to a knife fight and still cant end up on top (well the red sox spend close to that kind of $$, exclude them)....
1. New York Yankees $198,662,180 2. Boston Red Sox $120,100,524 3. Los Angeles Angels $103,625,333 4. Chicago White Sox $102,875,667 5. New York Mets $100,901,085 6. Los Angeles Dodgers $99,176,950 7. Chicago Cubs $94,841,167 8. Houston Astros $92,551,503 9. Atlanta Braves $92,461,852 10. San Francisco Giants $90,862,063 11. St. Louis Cardinals $88,441,218 12. Seattle Mariners $88,324,500 13. Philadelphia Phillies $88,273,333 14. Detroit Tigers $82,302,069 15. Baltimore Orioles $72,585,713 16. Toronto Blue Jays $71,915,000 17. San Diego Padres $69,725,179 18. Texas Rangers $65,468,130 19. Minnesota Twins $63,810,048 20. Washington Nationals $63,267,500 21. Oakland Athletics $62,322,054 22. Cincinnati Reds $59,489,015 23. Arizona Diamondbacks $59,221,226 24. Cleveland Indians $56,795,867 25. Milwaukee Brewers $56,790,000 26. Kansas City Royals $47,294,000 27. Pittsburgh Pirates $46,867,750 28. Colorado Rockies $41,133,000 29. Tampa Bay Devil Rays $35,417,967 30. Florida Marlins $14,998,500

No, they don't. 78 million is a big difference between the 1st and 2nd salary wise, assuming these numbers are correct.
That difference is 5 times more than the team with the lowest payroll.
Very good point (still assuming your #s are correct). That is definitely underachieving. With their resources they should win 120+ games every single year.4/21/2007 2:44:18 PM |

That is last years payrolls btw. The Yankees shaved a good deal off ($20M??) losing Sheffield and Big Unit. The Sox are a bit higher (and that doesn't count the $50M+ for Dice-K) and the Mets are at $116M...
Also, this is in the A-Rod thread but if you think he is a juicer you're an idiot. He cut 15 lbs off and has had the same body build since he broke in the league at 18. 4/21/2007 2:48:46 PM |

^ 1) Rivera had a 1.83 ERA last year....I doubt he is washed up.
2) A-rod doesnt have to carry the team the whole year. - Giambi had 37 HR last season - Abreu is a perrenial .300/100 rbi man. - Cano (23 years old) hit .342 last season - Jeter is still young and hit .344 last season, and is at .339 this season - Hideki Matsui is a career .300 hitter and has avg'd about 110 RBI per season in the USA, due off the DL on monday - Chien Ming Wang led the league in wins last season and is 26. - Philip Hughes is the # 1 prospect in baseball and is tearing up AAA. - The yankees bullpen still has the lowest ERA in baseball. - Andy Pettitte has a 1.86 ERA. - Roger Clemens is one blank check away - Jorge Posada is having a good season and showing no signs of slowing. - Johnny Damon is one of the best centerfielders in baseball defensively and sees more pitches per ab than anyone in baseball.
You honestly think a team that has won at least 92 games for 10 out of the last 11 seasons in a row, and at least 87 wins for 12 years in a row, wont win 81 games? You, sir, are an idiot.
Dont forget, 3/5ths of the rotation is on the DL 4/21/2007 5:10:07 PM |
