Not a bad hire in my opinion. He'll do fine as long as he doesn't play a 4-5-1- in a must win game in the World Cup!

I'm pretty much repeating what every other opinion column has said in the last couple of days... but this hire says alot about US soccer. We have a coach (Arena) who has worked his way through American systems with plenty of success and gets us to certain level and can't take us to the next one... so we fire him and instead of making a statement about taking our program to another level, we're settling for mediocrity by hiring a coach who hasn't accomplished nearly as much as Arena did and didn't even have a chance to prove himself during the "interim" tag.

I'm not saying Bradley is a sucky coach or anything but if Gulati was going to leave the interim tag on him for this long, why not wait a little longer, give him an A squad at Copa America and see how he does in a tournament setting? Anybody can qualify for the World Cup in the CONCACAF region and beat Mexico 2-0

1-1 25 minutes in.

Beasley was taken down on a breakaway by the gk and put the penalty home.

A few minutes later the U.S. defense didn't clear the ball so well, Spector missed his cover spot, and the Chinese player slammed it home from 12 yards.

Half. 2-1. Feilhaber chipped the goalkeeper for his first ever international goal.

Down south of the border, Mexico leads Iran 2-0 at half.

1-0 USA beats Guatemala. We looked good in the first half and looked bad in the second half. The refs sucked and Gooch got a red card which may not be a bad thing with the way he played tonight.

These announcers are clueless. Noriega is out as soon as his head hits the goalkeeper's shoulder.

Final

Guadalupe 2 Canada 1

The other night Canada beat Costa Rica 2-1 and then they lose to some French island that I had to do a google Earth search to find! LMAO!

So I learned a lot of interesting things about Guadalupe. They are a French state, so they are not a member of FIFA. They can not play in the World Cup, or Confederations Cup. Someone on Big Soccer said you have to retire from the French national team to play for them.

The Gold Cup provides an interesting conundrum. If you lose, you have to deal with losing the easiest tournament in the world. If you win, you have to play in the Confederations Cup, the most pointless tournament in the world.

You'd think they would cancel it after a dude died playing a meaningless game in the middle of blistering summer heat, but no.

They play the Confederations Cup only every 4 years now, one year before the World Cup at the host nation of the World Cup. It's a test run to see if they can handle 8 teams. If they can't do that then they have problems and need to do some fixing before 32 teams come to town.

As for the easiest tournament comment above, um Oceania has a confederation tournament too and Australia left Oceania after the 2006 World Cup. That means they have nothing left.

probably a mix or the full lineup again to get a decent lead and secure 1st place...

no reason even the 2nd team lineup shouldnt beat them

4-0 over el salvador.

USA – DaMarcus Beasley (unassisted) 34th minute
USA – Landon Donovan (penalty kick) 49+.
USA – Taylor Twellman (Brian Ching) 73.
USA – DaMarcus Beasley (Clint Dempsey) 89.

So what was the deal w/ Donovan's first PK. I know Bradley wasn't allowed to come into the 18 before the kick but the announcers said something to the effect that if Donovan wouldn't have been the one to score the rebound it would have counted.
