Good quote. I agree.

As for this, I cannot believe a UNC fan arguing that....Ill just quote one of your own, David Noel:

Quote :
""At Duke you'll look out into the crowd and see something that will make you laugh. At State you might look out into the crowd and see something that'll make you want to cry. They're out to hurt your feelings and get your head out of the game.""

Also here is what Georgia Tech's Jeremis Smith had to say:

Quote :
""It's crazy out there. Duke with their crowd, but overall I'd have to put NC State at the top of the list.""

No mention of Carolina fuckhead. Now get off our site faggot.

I never said the Smith Center was intimidating in terms of crowd, I meant intimidating regarding tradition and history.

I can't wait for this game tomorrow.

^Which do you think has more tradition/history...Reynolds or the "Smith Center"? (Why do you call it that?)

I know we don't play at Reynolds anymore, but I'm trying to guage you here.

dude get over yourself/your arena, there isn't that much tradition and history. its a big fucking sea-foam green eyesore. its not cameron, hell its not even reynolds. it doesn't get loud and jerseys in the rafter aren't fucking intimidating.

Dean Dome. 4>2, 6 retired jerseys>1, but I don't know much about Reynolds but I bet it was fun to watch games there. My friends and I went there to see the Shav/Richardson HS game.

retired jersey count = irrelevant, seeing as it's completely up to the university which numbers they retire.

ok i understand Jordan, and i'm not familiar with the first two (obviously)

but Ford, Worthy, and Jamison probably didn't deserve to have their numbers retired. Great players, no doubt, but not retireable.

IMO, retired jerseys are for players that are undeniably special. Honoring jersey's is one thing, but retiring them... ehhh, that's like a once every blue moon sort of thing.

early lines have UNC -15... I was going to bet the house on UNC before the line came out, but then I realized that the Duke game is next... could be a look ahead game and 15 is a LOT of points

We can victor this game. We dominated V-tech, carolina got blown out, hence we victor. Fact.
All we need to do is;

1)execute, don't get caught up in those offensive traps

2)continue to utilize that 8-9 man rotation

3)double down on hansborough

4)take advantage of that mid-range jumper that unc poorly defends.

You have to be voted the National Player of the year to have your jersey retired at UNC. I don't know anything about Glamack, but Rosenbluth was the star of the '57 team that went undefeated and beat Wilt Chamberlain's Kansas team (he was NPOY). Phil Ford was also national player of the year, as was James Worthy, and Jamison. Duke has retired jerseys everywhere, but let me guess guys like Battier, Jason Williams, and Redick don't deserve to have their jersey retired because they aren't Michael Jordan or David Thompson?

To have your jersey honored you have to be first or second team all american I believe. State has honored jerseys in the RBC, too. State fans love to say how we have too many jerseys in the rafters, but all the players up there fit the criteria...there have just been more at UNC's program than NC State's.

Ford - named college player of the year by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association in 1978

Jamison - awarded both the Naismith and Wooden Awards as the most outstanding men's college basketball player for the 1997-98 season.

Worthy - you got me, I have no idea why his number is retired. Only thing I can find on Worthy is an NBA finals MVP.

Quote :
"I am a State fan. There is a plausible sincerity to these words, an earnestness that rings poetic.

To mention these words is to seemingly reveal your character, the very essence of your soul. It is shameless and self-affirming, an unabashed sense of pride about whom you are, perhaps a tad arrogant, however devoid of elitism. To state these words is to affirm that your loyalty is absolute and unwavering; you have laid claim to a title that commands respect because you are genuine – a flailing sense of dedication is not tolerated. There is a subtle swagger in the way you say it, a bluster that only another true State fan can ever entirely comprehend.

And still yet, as a State fan, you are not exactly teeming with bliss, but rather a desperate longing for satisfaction, appeasement. There exists within you an undeniable complexity, a dichotomy to your nature common among Wolfpack Nation. You are patient and forgiving and doggedly loyal to a fault, but you are marked by a looming forlornness of unfulfilled expectations and dashed hopes. Yet somehow you are decidedly resilient, having borne the stigma of the 90s and shunned any of its accompanying shame.

And of course, you hate Carolina; it’s inherent, a black or white issue: You cannot be a true State fan and have even the slightest inkling of any tolerance for the team O’er the Hill. That is undeniable, scientific fact.

I hate Carolina. There’s a solemn sincerity in these words as well, although they might not be quite as poetic. I hate them with such a fiery passion that I delight as much in a loss for them as I do a win for us. I so despise losing to them, that when we do, the trauma takes days off my life.

But do I even know why I hate them so much?

See, I don’t hate Carolina because the bastards are perpetual media darlings or because everyone gushes over their storied and hallowed tradition of excellence or because they had a legendary coach that unified them for decades or because they have won five (still counting as of today) national championships and 15 ACC titles.

I don’t hate the Well or the Bell or the supposed magnificent aura of the Dean E. Smith Center.

I don’t despise them for the fact that even when we are better than them they usually find a way to beat us or that Tyler Hansbrough never blinks nor fouls. I don’t wallow in the desperation of the fact that Ishua Benjamin always seems to get bumped out of bounds with less than a minute to play leading to a puzzling jump ball call or that there’s always a Jim Knight around to take points off the scoreboard at a crucial moment.

I don’t deplore them for hanging in the rafters the jersey of any player who ever plopped his sweaty ass on the bench and I could care less if they have a nationally-exposed, bitter, storied rivalry with Duke and act indifferent towards State.

I don’t hate their pseudo-elitist personas and I don’t hate the media-bias in favor of them from Manteo to Murphy.

I don’t hate that anywhere I’ve ever been I could find a Carolina hat (including, most recently, on the ski slopes of Italy) or that everyone that moves to North Carolina always cheers for them because of “how good they are.”

I don’t despise the fact that I cringe whenever someone says “Tar Heel State” and that when I’m governor someday my duties will require that I pretend to be proud and excited that they won a championship when the team visits the mansion while secretly I’d like to build a wall around Chapel Hill and fill it with water.

I don’t hate that Carolina fans have no idea what it’s like to endure true frustration because after two years of mediocrity they solved the problem.

I don’t hate them because we’ll never be close to where they are in basketball and will never consistently dominate them in football, yet we’re unwilling to ever accept that reality.

I don’t hate Carolina for any of the aforementioned trivial reasons.

Wait, that’s precisely why I hate them.

If you don't much about Reynolds, how can you possibly make the judgement that the Dean Dome has more tradition and history. Reynolds kicks the Dean Dome's ass when it comes to tradition and history. Look into it.

He is correct, it does take more character to stick with a losing team. But we need to get back to the topic. This is the biggest came for us this year and we really need to support our team.

Reynolds Built in 1949 was the site of the first several ACC tournaments. Was also home to Dixie Classic for many years (a tournament pitting the Big Four against the best teams we could get to come) It actually had several green chairs that Jimmy V. painted red himself when he got here. I have two Reynolds chairs in my house. I've raised them during games we played in Reynolds to throw off the other team's three throws (which is against the rules). But, as much as I hate it, we don't play there anymore, so that tradition doesn't really help with the home court advantage.

I think New York, Philly, and Indiana would have a lot to say about that. Big time college basketball in the South certainly was born in Reynolds coliseum though... some would say solely because of an Indiana man named Everett Case..

^^^^ i know it wasnt actually born here, i just thought it would be a creative sign.

i get tired of hearing announcers talk about the history and pride of acc hoops (especially dook and the holes) with less than a breath mentioning nc state. granted we have pretty much put ourselves in that position of irrelevance but still, you can't change history. i mean if indiana had a totally craptastic decade for whatever reason, people wouldn't just forget about them.

would "college basketball lives was developed and brought to the big time in the south here" sound nearly as good?

No, Roy is old school, and by that I mean he's old. He remembers the Pack of the 70's, he played against them (and lost a lot), he was an assistant in the 80's, (when it was more in UNC's favor but still close). Recently, now that he's head coach, we've been kind of a joke to him. But I"m sure seeing Sid in front of the other bench will have him thinking differently.
