yeah the no caution made me mad b/c I wanted Mark to win

wouldn't bother me if I were pulling for Harvick

yeah I was pulling for Mark. I hate Harvick for some reason. Maybe it's because he took the spot of Dale and I didn't think he was good enough

speaking of switching back and forth between series, do ya'll think Nascar will ever make a rule where a driver cant drive Busch and Nextel? It's stupid the way they do it. It should be like the major and minor leagues of Baseball. The Busch series should be used to work on the skills of the younger drivers and the better drivers shouldn't be able to drive in it just to win the money.

I'd put a rule in that once you have 80 career nextel cup starts (just over 2 complete seasons) you can only run 10 races in busch series in a season. Of course if you stop running full time in nextel cup you can run full time in busch or trucks.

The Busch Series needs the Cup guys to come down and step up the competition. But when you have a Cup guy come down and win the championship thats just complete bullshit

People, there are NO CAUTIONS on the final lap, when everyone is on the lead lap. Damn, get over it! That was a true Daytona finish!! Harvick came out of no where! I wanted Mark to win too, but damn, that was racing if there ever was.

Nah, I think they should be able to run both series. I dont think there has been any problem, and if they're good enough, let them do it!

So you're cool with a proven Cup winner completely dominating the Busch Series? I mean last year didn't they go like 17 races before a non-Cup winner won a race which happened to be David Gilliand. Plus you know the Cup guys are getting the top of the line equipment plus all the knowledge of racing at the tracks

Well, Busch and Nextel are pretty different. Its not identical. Different speeds, cars, equipment, racing style. It's really ok with me. I mean, if he can dominate 2 types of racing, then thats awesome. Also, Busch races the tracks first, so if anything, Nextel should want them out of Nextel or only with Busch. Since they have a feel for the track already. But it really is so different being in each car. Maybe they should be limited in number, but that would be the extent.

the cars aren't that different, that's why the cup drivers go race there, experience. the only real difference is the wheelbase is 5" shorter.

^^5" makes a ton of difference at 180 mph. And they have all sorts of differences. Granted, they are similar enough that the drivers can learn a fair amount about how their cars are gonna do the next day, but its not enough to justify all the work and time that goes into those races.

that can only be justified by money.

I dont recall the race, but there was one last year where a wreck happened in the back of the field on the last lap...pretty much everyone was in front of it and the track was clear to the finish line, but they threw the caution flag anyhow (robbing us all of a great finish). Now this year, they dont throw the caution when the wreck is in front of all but 2 cars? I dont know anything about this "no cautions on the last lap if everyone is all the lead lap" crap, a wreck is a wreck...so if everyones on the lead lap, its perfectly safe for them to race back to the line with cars spinning all over the track? That makes a LOT of sense.

AND II: Kyle Busch disappeared in the smoke just as Harvick pulled alongside Martin in the tri-oval. They both waited for the flagman, who leaned over the track and dropped the checkered with the 07 Chevy of Clint Bowyer tumbling and burning into the infield. At that moment, the outcome was in the hands of NASCAR. The message from the control center above the track to the flagman came as the cars reached the line. "Put it out,'' David Hoots, NASCAR's race director, radioed down. The yellow flag flew after Harvick passed under the flagstand. "When the 07 went sideways on the track, the yellow came out,'' NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said afterward. "At that point the 29 was ahead of the 01 and declared the winner.'' That was a good explanation and all, except that's not what happened. Bowyer was upside down before the leaders took the checkered flag. The caution was thrown after that, technically, and according to NASCAR's own rules, after the race ended. The fact that there was an official margin of victory (.020 seconds) proves it. There is no margin of victory in a race that ends under caution. And since no caution flew before the end, NASCAR had no official account of the crash. NASCAR must think that either no one watched this race or no one recorded it. Sure, the first group of cars to crash has slid down to the apron, but its pretty obvious theres another 5-6 cars that are pointed in the wrong direction, and thats usually not a good sign. Plus, at the time Bowyers car is sideways, Martin and Harvick are just past the pit entrance. Ive always thought that they should race back to the finish anyhow regardless of the location of the wreck, but NASCAR has set a precedent of throwing that caution flag regardless, even if everyone on the track is clear of the wreck...now all of a sudden they want to change it? Were any of the ACC refs in Daytona yesterday?

I think this picture says it all. Martin is clearly out front but the rest of the field is wrecking. Nascar has too much of a habit of enforcing rules one week and the next week it forgets about it so the finish is better.

Which was why the whole made-for-ESPN "we're clamping down on rules, no one will cheat, we will punish them severely, blah blah blah" was crap. NASCAR enforces rules only when it suits their interests, not all of the time.

Ratings for Daytona down 12% from last year. 7% from 2005.

Fox is trying to explain it off in the link below. But this explanation from Fox though has me going

Nascar decides who they like and who they want to try to let win. If it was Dale Jr. in the lead they would have thrown the caution but it was mark martin so they wanted to see a race to the finish. I like it and believe that they shoul have the race back to the linevs the freezing the field bull shit they do now. Nascar is not getting better in my oppinion I think its getting worse. They are starting to sell out.

I have watched NASCAR since the 1988 season. Therefore I think I have a REAL clue.

It is not fixed. It is impossible to fix machinery. You can't fix something when a part could break or when you are running outside of someone and he crashes into you by losing it or blowing a tire.

They do though play preferences. They do this when it suits their ultimate purpose of making money by having certain people win or having certain events happen to improve the bottom line. It's Vince McMahon's contribution to real sports. Have you ever heard of "The Call"? It's a term coined by NASCAR drivers to when someone's car is clearly better, defying logic (like Dale Jr. passing cars at a restrictor-plate track when he's not drafting with anyone) and has been given the nod to win. (That's right, "The Call" is a term invented by the drivers, not fans.)

I don't believe the Daytona 500 this past weekend though they were giving a preference for who they wanted a win. They just wanted a green-flag finish cause it's better for making money, it just breaks their own rules they create, which goes back to their selective application of them when it suits their purposes, which goes back to why I think the crackdown on cheating was bulls***. If they wanted to crackdown on cheating, they would've banned Waltrip, but they weren't going to do that cause it would make Toyota look bad and it would make NAPA look bad.

Put it this way, If DEI blatantly cheated with Dale Jr.'s car, does anyone seriously think NASCAR would ever do anything that would severely harm their most popular driver? It's a bit like when Jordan was great in the NBA, he could get in a fight with another player, the other player would get ejected and Jordan would stay in the game. Why? Cause the paying customers wanted to see Jordan play and could care less about the other guy.

If you don't see that, fine. It's not a big deal, continue being blissfully ignorant.

Mark Martin just cant catch a break. last night in the truck race he was leading with 2 laps to go when hornaday punted him on a restart.

Also nice to see Mayfield is now 0-2 in starting cup races this year, after he crashed evernham's cars on purpose last year.
