^^^ Uh. . .ABC News.

"Armed with Gore's utility bills for the last two years, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research charged Monday that the gas and electric bills for the former vice president's 20-room home and pool house [emphasis added] devoured nearly 221,000 kilowatt-hours in 2006, more than 20 times the national average of 10,656 kilowatt-hours."

^ Man, STFU.

And offsets--usually planting trees--doesn't do shit. So says National Geographic:

Planting forests to combat global warming may be a waste of time, especially if those trees are at high latitudes, new research suggests.

Quote :
"Scientists say the benefits that come from trees reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide can be outweighed by their capacity to trap heat near the ground.

Computer modelling indicates that trees only really work to cool the planet if they are planted in the tropics."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6184577.stm

Quote :
"It hardly seems reasonable--or even ethical--to assume that it is probably alright [sic] to keep driving up C02 levels."

^ Since you're crying for an image--you keep moving the line of evidence that you require--I think this is Gore's home:

http://virtualglobetrotting.com/map/16965/

Take a look:

Quote :
"A carbon offset is a service that tries to reduce the net carbon emissions of individuals or organizations indirectly, through proxies who reduce their emissions and/or increase their absorption of greenhouse gases.[1] A wide variety of offset actions are available; tree planting is the most common [emphasis added]. Renewable energy and energy conservation offsets are also popular, including emissions trading credits.

The intended goal of carbon offsets is to combat global warming.[2] The appeal of becoming 'carbon neutral' has contributed to the growth of voluntary offsets, which often are a more cost-effective alternative to reducing one's own fossil-fuel consumption. However, the actual amount of carbon reduction (if any) from an offset project is difficult to measure, largely unregulated, and vulnerable to misrepresentation.[3]"

"The Center claims that Nashville Electric Services records show the Gores in 2006 averaged a monthly electricity bill of $1,359 for using 18,414 kilowatt-hours, and $1,461 per month for using 16,200 kilowatt-hours in 2005. During that time, Nashville Gas Company billed the family an average of $536 a month for the main house and $544 for the pool house in 2006, and $640 for the main house and $525 for the pool house in 2005. That averages out to be $29,268 in gas and electric bills for the Gores in 2006, $31,512 in 2005."

This guy is a fucking hypocrite. He's spending $525 to power and heat his POOL HOUSE. He needs to shut the fuck up.

So, I guess this is a non-issue?

Quote :
"A spokeswoman for Gore said he purchases enough "green power" — renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and methane gas — to balance 100 percent of his electricity costs.

"Sometimes when people don't like the message, in this case that global warming is real, it's convenient to attack the messenger," Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider said.

Gore participates in a utility program that sells blocks of "green power" for an extra $4 a month. Gore purchases 108 such blocks every month, covering 16,200 kilowatt-hours and helping subsidize renewable energy sources.

Johnson said it's unclear whether global warming is caused by humans, and he said the threat outlined in Gore's documentary is exaggerated.

The think tank said Gore used nearly 221,000 kilowatt hours last year and that his average monthly electric bill was $1,359. Johnson said his group got its figures from Nashville Electric Service.

But electric company spokeswoman Laurie Parker said the utility never got a request from the policy center and never provided them with any information.

Parker said Gore has been purchasing the "green power" for $432 a month since November. The Gore home is also under renovation to add solar panels, Kreider said"

I'm sure if we would sign the Kyoto Protocol and participate in the climate exchange markets, then perhaps there would be an economic incentive to find a way to curtail emissions. As for now, theres no incentive to reduce carbon emissions. Free market environmentalism might be the answer.

I don't really care. I tend to assume all politicians and such are hypocrites. This is the way of the world.

You'll learn, Twista, you'll learn.

I think, however, that'd be more meaningful to compare Gore's energy use to others of the same income, though. Then you could prove he's even more of a hypocrite.

respond to the info from the yahoo article.

this think tank released these huge power bills in an attempt to prove al gore is a hypocrite and OMG HE DUMPS 100 TIMES MORE CARBON INTO THE AIR THAN THE AVERAGE PERSON

when it reality:

Quote :
"A spokeswoman for Gore said he purchases enough "green power" — renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and methane gas — to balance 100 percent of his electricity costs."

the fact that he spends so much more on power should be pretty evident to you, and its not just because he has a big house.

it's not a left/right thing

it's about making this place better for the future and he's not concerned with it, he is a washed up has been loser thats trying to remain politically viable for his party apparently they couldn't find a better "spokesman" for this than Gore, too bad he's telling the average folks how they should live while he does as he pleases since he can afford to pay his "pollution money"
