"The World is Ready for the UFC - UFC 73 on July 7th
Las Vegas, NV (USA) – Tired of paying your hard-earned cash for events packed with hype and little else? Sick of sitting down
for a pay-per-view event and finding out that you’re paying over $50 for just three fights that include a showcase and a mismatch?
The Ultimate Fighting Championship® has the cure for what is ailing fight fans, and in a continuing effort to provide what the world is truly waiting for, it is announcing yet another UFC card stacked with at least five fights that include two intense championship bouts and a heated grudge match between two light heavyweight rivals. UFC 73: STACKED features UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva in his first title defense vs. Nate “The Great” Marquardt. UFC Lightweight Champion Sean “The Muscle Shark” Sherk puts his newly-won belt on the line vs. Brazil’s Hermes Franca. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira steps into the Octagon™ for the first time for a heavyweight war with Heath Herring – and Tito Ortiz intends to put a painful end to Rashad Evans’ perfect 15-0 record. Let the fireworks begin. UFC 73, loaded with UFC superstars, takes place LIVE from ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif. Saturday, July 7, 2007.

He knows what's taking money away from him.

i enjoyed it. not the slugfest that was originally promised by de la hoya, but a good strategic match. if de la hoya hadn't stopped punching in the later rounds, (i.e. the jab) he would've taken it

mayweather whoped that ass, but it's only cause de la hoya wasn't doing anything, as far as jabs/feints
and cornering floyd - he just walked like 3 miles around that ring, taking solid blows to the face.
i dunno about y'all, but I think de la hoya wasn't really interested in winning that match like he should have been.

someone explain to me how they have belts but are considered "former champion" for it? How can someone contend for that belt?

if they move out of that weight class, or even if they get defeated

they get to keep the belt, each new champion gets a new belt

can they reenter the weight class to defend their belt, or is it that if they move out and then reenter they have to challenge the current title holder?

No. Once you have been stripped of your title you have no claim to it. But it really doesn't matter when there are four different titles per weight class, and very often four different champions. Most boxers just chase the big money fights at this stage in their careers.

a fight is a fight. We got about 15 of us at a buddys house. Drank some beer and watched it. I thought it was interesting. Now we just need some heavyweights again...

cause its about money

thats what professional boxing has come down to, not everyone is good enough to fight and if you are you face a good oppononent where you cant just go all out like in the ufc.

the ufc has become nothing more than a big wrestling match. If any of the professional fighters like mayweather or tito went to the UFC they would become the champion of their weight division. They dont because theres more money in professional boxing right now.

^I think Mayweather would dominate while they were standing up, but as soon as they went down on the mat he would probably be in an ankle lock within 10 seconds.

^^mayweather become the champion of the ufc at his division?????....HAHA....obviously you know nothing about fighting....there is more to MMA than stand up.....what is he gonna do when someone shoots in? you mean to tell me mayweather is trained to defend shots, kicks, submissions etc?? sean sherk would dominate mayweather in the ufc, as would many others....

tito is already in the ufc...maybe you meant to say de la hoya, who would also get destroyed by an MMA fighter

boxing is about to be dead, and the ufc is taking over...even though i enjoyed the mayweather/de la hoya fight, this fight disappointed many fans and was possibly the last chance boxing had to redeem itself

I assume he's talking about Felix "Tito" Trinidad that also beat De La Hoya. And yes, Mayweather would lose in a MMA match but guess what, he could kick anyone UFC fighters ass in a boxing match so what's the point? He's the best pound for pound athlete in his sport and he just banked 14 million. You think he gives a shit about the UFC?

If only the UFC was an entire sport. It will surpass boxing simply because there aren't 11 billion belts and 11 billion weight classes. MMA already outsold boxing in the absolute number of PPV buys last year.

In that sense, I'd say that MMA is already in front of boxing.

Quote :
"The UFC broke the pay-per-view industry's all-time records for a single year of business and generated over $200 million in revenue during 2006, according to two credible media outlets.

Both the Associated Press and the Wrestling Observer have reported that Zuffa's pay-per-view revenue in 2006 exceeded $200 million, with the Wrestling Observer reporting the specific figure of $222,766,000. As the Observer put it, "UFC grossed more money this past year on PPV than any promotion in history ever has."

Many fans of both boxing and MMA have wondered whether the UFC has already surpassed boxing. The numbers show that not only is the UFC bigger than boxing today, but it's also bigger than boxing ever was from a PPV revenue standpoint. The all-time record year for boxing was 1999, with just over $200 million in combined PPV revenue, and the UFC broke that record by over $20 million in 2006."

BOXING yes, but boxing is not every aspect of fighting now is it?....that's the fucking point...i only addressed that anyway b/c some dipshit said he would dominate the UFC...hell i wouldn't do UFC either if i could make bank, chill with rappers and the like, and be the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world

Isn't the problem is that boxing is not an organization? So, in that comparison, UFC wins by default.

Was listening to a podcast yesterday of a couple guys that are big MMA guys. They were saying they were watching Mayweather-de la Hoya, and said the difference as far as presentation is striking. Both agreed that the hype for this bout was amazing, and that all of boxing, UFC, WWE, etc. can take a note from that. The fight they said was okay. Was not the greatest but wasn't the worst. The thing that annoyed them the most was that there was only one fight. The undercard was completely nonexistant and the crowd wasn't even watching those matches and were in the casino, in comparison to UFC and WWE where the crowd watches the whole event. How can a sport have a future when no one knows and sees the up-and-comers? This is where MMA and WWE, they were saying, have boxing beat. Yeah, you watch the big fight, but you have to have a long-term future by having solid undercards. So before the big fight, you watch the guys aiming to be in the big fight one day. This was an Oscar de la Hoya-promoted event with Golden Boy Promotions, and he has a lot of good fighters that he promotes. Why didn't he use them?

And this talk of sweet science? Come on, I want to see a guy knock the other out. That's boxing. Not sitting back and cherry-picking shots.

Thats what I was saying. They are completely different sports...Thats the point. It's like saying Gilbert Arenas could beat Pedro Martinez in basketball. Pedro Martinez does not practice shooting 3 pointers just like Floyd Mayweather does not practice getting out of submission holds. I don't see why UFC fans think that it is badass that a MMA guy could beat up a boxer in a fight.

i like boxing AND i like MMA but to those boxing fans that dint take MMA seriously and think its a joke, wake up. when i was a kid their was always boxing on. Saturday afternoons, friday nights etc. and we didn't even have cable. now when the hell is there ever boxing even on that is not an expensive as hell pay per view? Have you seen the ratings for ESPN friday night fights? meanwhile MMA associations are up and coming. Their are times when Pride on FSN UFC on Spike and IFL on RDC are all on at the same time!!! ever time I turn onn the TV i see MMA, BODOG fights or something and that is on basic cable!! There will always be boxing and I am glad but boxing could learn a thing or two from MMA as Teddy Atlas said on Jim Rome the other day.

number of PPV buys is not the same thing as the number of viewers. When you shell out $50 to watch a fight, you invite over everyone you know to watch it with you.
