^That's what I'm thinking. I can find plenty of people who'd love to play lead or bass guitar or drums, but singing? Not so much 11/11/2007 11:49:28 AM |

yeah but im pretty sure you can play any amount of instruments and the game fills in the rest....

Yeah, i figured you could go without the singer, but I think having 4 people will be half the fun.
Just gotta convince one of the guys girlfriends to be the singer. 11/11/2007 7:20:37 PM |

that's why i was thinking about getting a mic stand. drum while singing. i played a few songs on the best buy demo on expert. it'll be harder with a kick pedal, but a lot of the drums are repetitive, so it won't be too hard to sing while playing. they sell stands at best buy, but i didn't check out the prices. it's $25 on ebay. i'm pretty sure just laying the mic on a table will work also. 11/12/2007 12:30:32 AM |

I didn't like the guitar scoring system they have, it's not as versatile as Guitar Hero.
I did like the feel of the drums though.
If they could have the Rockband drums, and the Guitar Hero guitar scoring, it would be the perfect game, IMO. 11/12/2007 12:38:13 AM |

you liked the feel of the drums? idk, drumming w/o being able to do drumrolls kinda sux imo. i was thinking either rubber bands or bouncy balls from a gumball machine would solve that problem. 11/12/2007 12:42:50 AM |

The pads seemed rubbery to me, enough to drum roll if you had to.
I only played easy, so I didn't actually attempt to drum roll, but I did think that if I had to, I could have. 11/12/2007 12:48:34 AM |

I hate the way the drums sound, I saw one at Best Buy today and this girl was playing it, and they have this really annoying plasticky rap-rap-rapping....you'd think they'd go for a more rubber action so you can have more dynamics to the stick but it's essentially like drumming on Tupperware lids.
Also, one of the pads was impaled by someone drumming too hard. Not a good sign for me, but i'm sure many will say YMMV. 11/12/2007 2:11:42 AM |

You'd pretty much have to hit the pads with a hammer to break 'em. The Harmonix guys said they've broken drumsticks on the sets and they were still fine. 11/14/2007 2:47:19 PM |

My roommate and I checked this game out at best buy the other night. He played the drums for years and did the hardest song on expert the second time he played with a 96%. I tried and failed out on hard and others we saw play struggled with the drums.
Anyone know why the release date of the guitar and drum kit shows up at 2/8/2008 but the game is 11/20? 11/14/2007 3:35:39 PM |

so it looks like they're not interested in making rock band 2, 3, 4, etc like guitar hero does...
they're just going to put out DLC weekly for a longgggggggg time...i like that idea rather than purchasing a new game every 4-5 months and being forced to buy newer, better peripherals (going from wired to wireless, etc)
Quote : | "it appears the weekly DLC will be the thing bringing longevity to the product as opposed to yearly sequels." |

That's incorrect. I was at the same event with Alex (the joystiq guy). They will do sequels, just not as frequently as the GH games. For example, they want to release one where people can play the co-op World tour online rather than just locally. They have a TON of goals for future incarnations. For now they're just focusing on Rock Band, the DLC and future peripherals.

Full details of DLC pricing:
Quote : | "Since Rock Band was first announced by Harmonix and MTV Games in March, the developers have made no secret of their ambitious plans for downloadable content. As the game's release has drawn closer, information about those plans has trickled out. At the E3 Media and Business Summit, Harmonix said it would be offering full downloadable albums from artists like The Who, with more tracks from Metallica, The Grateful Dead, and The Ramones among those that gamers could add on to the retail game.
With Rock Band set for release next Tuesday, Harmonix today finally took the wraps off its downloadable content model today. The studio has apparently heard complaints regarding the mandatory three-song bundles and $6.25 price point adopted by the Guitar Hero franchise's downloadable content, and is giving gamers a bit of a break.
Rock Band will still feature pre-selected three-song packs for download, but they will instead cost $5.49 (440 Microsoft points on Xbox 360). Songs will also be available individually for $1.99. Harmonix has said future songs will be sold individually for as little as $.99 (80 Microsoft points), and as much as $2.99 (240 points). However, "the vast majority" will come in at the standard $1.99 price point. The developer did not say how much full-album downloads would be, or when the first albums would be released.
Harmonix also detailed its release schedule for the first five weeks after Rock Band launches. The opening week will be highlighted by track packs from Metallica, The Police, and Queens of the Stone Age, with individual songs from Creedence Clearwater Revival, Foreigner, T-Rex, and more. Downloaded tracks will be integrated into all of the game's modes, and will be playable online only if all players have purchased the songs. " |

I agree. $5.49 isn't that far off from $6.25. Do they really think that saving 75 cents is gonna "take your breath away -- in a good way."
That being said, it's still only optional. I believe you're getting plenty of content included in the game and if you want more you can buy it.11/15/2007 11:37:37 AM |

After playing just the guitar parts, I gotta say this game feels like the natural progression that the Guitar Hero series should have made after GHII. I really like the new interface, the new star power system (well it's not called star power, but it's the same thing), The do, it yourself guitar solos. I really like most everything about it. The crowd singing along to songs is pretty sweet. This game is pretty awesome. 11/18/2007 7:05:09 PM |

I've finished guitar solo tour on medium. I really dig that you can still earn overdrive while overdrive is activated. Potentially, you could have "star power" through most of a song. 11/18/2007 9:59:45 PM |

Kinda. They only happen at the very end of a song and you get a small amount of time to just flail away at the guitar for 5-10 seconds. The more notes you hit the more potential bonus you get. Then after the solo you have to hit the ending note or notes to collect the bonus.
Just now I had 4.99 stars(you can see how many stars you have while playing, I love that) going into the end of Vaseline, which has a solo section at the end. I got just enough bonus points in the solo to get the 5th star on the last note of the game. It was quite spectacular. 11/19/2007 1:45:42 AM |

If you watch videos of the game, it's the sections where all of the "keys" (frets, drum beats, mic, etc) are lit up, and you can wail away in any way you want 11/19/2007 8:42:35 AM |
