Yes, but the 80GB still requires a chip that isn't in the 40GB.

And really, the 40 and 80GB versions have been out for a while, if this was possible don't you think someone else would've thought of it and posted it somewhere first?

Well, I've had my ps3 for all of 2 weeks. I haven't really kept up with the hacking of it.
What's everyone's game id for metal gear online?

Rather than drive around looking for a WalMart with the bundle or take my chances waiting for another shipment, I got the 40 gig model and bought the controller and game with the gift card. The woman in the electronics section was about the most ornery bitch I've dealt with in retail.

^I'm sure there's a chance...although the news that it fills up a Blu-Ray disc adds to the porting issues. Depends on how much that data can be compressed--I wonder how much of it is uncompressed audio tracks.

But on another note, I hate all of you that got to play this today because I'm in the middle of moving and my PS3 is in the trunk of my car

It's not like there haven't been versions for Xbox though.

It's a 3rd party exclusive, which means anything can potentially happen.

I would think Sony would put up as much money as possible to keep this game exclusive. I don't know of another series that is more readily associated with Playstation. I know some of the games have been ported to other systems, but I still think of it as a "Sony" game. Microsoft has Halo, Nintendo has Zelda/Mario, and Sony has MGS.

Sony has Gran Turismo. They own the franchise. That's probably their biggest first party title.

There's nothing stopping Konomi from packing up and moving to another system, except for the $dollar bucks Sony pays them to remain exclusive.

After all, Final Fantasy used to be Nintendo exclusive, now they all come out for Playstation (besides some remakes on the Nintendo portable systems).

Yeah, the writing is out there. I've never played a MGS game before, so I wasn't quite so sure what to expect. But with all the hype about how the game has so much emphasis on storytelling and cutscenes, you would think that they would at least have decent dialog, good voice actors, semi-believable characters, or interesting stories to tell.

So far, they're 0/4.

What is the deal with them taking 15 minutes to drag along a plot point that could just as easily be made in 90 seconds? I'm really not impressed.

How many times do they really need to point out that soldiers have nanobots in them that prevents anyone but authorized personnel from firing weapons. Yeah, ok. we got that after the first 6 times you told us. And why is snake such a clueless moron when he's talking to people? Yeah, I get that they're using his cluelessness as a plot device to explain how things work (several times over), but would it really have been that hard for him to "get something" on his own during the natural course of conversation and then say something like "oh, so you mean I can't fire the gun because I have old tech in me?" Instead, he's just the big dumb soldier who can't tell which end of the gun to point at the bad guy unless someone clues him in.

And then several times they would explain something, and then say "...in other words..." and then repeat it again using almost the same words. It's like...Christ, I'm not retarded, I don't need you to explain shit to me like I'm a freaking baby.

grr. I guess I shouldn't be stressing over it. I've just heard so much ranting and raving about what a great story teller the guy that made this series is. So far, I don't see what the big deal is. Doesn't seem like the guy could write his way out of a wet paper bag to me.

i really want to play this.

i don't think this will be ported to the Xbox. They didn't port MGS3, why do MGS4? MGS3 could have easily been ported to Xbox. Yet they didn't. Now that MGS4 takes up damn near an entire blu-ray, you really think they'd port that shit?

I had a PS and PS2 until my PS2 kept breaking and I sold out to M$ but I always enjoyed the Metal Gear games (and Gran Turismo)...MGS2 was some groundbreaking shit...the graphic effects of the rain on the very first board on the ship were dope

I understand that, but it's still probably their flagship title, the game they count on to sell systems. Other than that what do they have, Crash Bandicoot? I guess that's their "Mario," but I doubt too many people buy a Playstation to play Crash Bandicoot.

and the story is told in this chapter in such a manner to give beginners a synopsis and vets a refresher of what snake has been fighting for through all of his previous chapters. That was made clear early on.

I'm honestly most impressed by the visuals. With all the graphical marvels that have come out this gen, from Bioshock to Uncharted and Call of Duty 4 (and obviously Crysis, but I haven't seen that in person), I wasn't expecting to be really blown away by that aspect of the game. It's just another example of how quality art and excessive attention to detail can elevate what is really, average graphics technology. The game is just gorgeous.

Besides that, I haven't had much time to dive into the game due to the NBA finals (Lakers ). Watched all the intro cinema and played the first couple gameplay sections. So far it's everything I wanted it to be. Besides the graphics, the controls are probably the biggest upgrade from MGS3. Much simpler yet you can do so much more.

haven't played much yet just got past the cut scene with drebbin who makes a great character

the game seems to have more emphasis on shooting people than the previous games which i like

so far i'm blown away by the graphics dunno if its my projector or what

i can't go back to anything after seeing 1080p on it

In general I love the visuals, but I'm disappointed by the way joints look on the soldiers. Clothing still looks and behaves like it's part of the skin, instead of cloth on top of the body. It's most obvious when you see their arms bent. I noticed the same thing with GTAIV

^^Damn, you have a 1080p projector? How much did you pay for that bad boy?

And Jeepin4x4, I knew someone would give me shit for not having played the first games and then trashing the story on this one, but I really don't think that has anything to do with it. I'm not lost, or confused, I'm frustrated at everything being explained to me 18 different times, and having to deal with 20 minute cutscenes with shitty voice acting and dialog that seems like it comes from a video game.

...oh wait.

my projector http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/consumer/consDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=63073679

its worth every penny i'll be paying over then next year

i think the reason why the voice acting isn't up to par is because they have so many returning voice actors

even though they aren't very good in the first place it would be kinda weird if they switched them all up

it pisses me off when games have such high production values and the voice acting is total shit - like the guy who does drebin (not a returning voice actor) is awesome but the guy who does otacan (returning voice actor) blows pretty bad

so i'm gonna use my wal-mart gift card to pick up a blu ray movie today

plus i'm not sure if any of these games have 7.1 surround sound - i've been reading all about my receiver and its compatibility to the ps3

i need to do work

^^Do you have a link to back that up? I can't seem to find anything one way or the other.

Personally, I'd doubt that it is at a true 1080p, but everything I see when I search is just dumb fanboys saying "it's 720P, no, it's 1080, well the framerate is most important, blah blah blah" but no real answers.

It's natively rendered at anamorphic 1024x768. Beyond3d has a list of the rendering resolutions of all current gen games here,

The receiver just needs to be to accept 7.1 LPCM over HDMI. basically thats HDMI 1.1 standard. Some bonuses would be if it can apply matrixing to the rear surrounds with a 5.1 source, etc.

after my constant research i have discovered my receiver sucks balls

it is only hdmi passthrough so i have to use optical cables for sound

therefore i will not be able to enjoy lpcm unless it is 2 channel

i'm stuck with it for now because i can't afford any more toys

so far for me the game has been awesome...

i like the fact that the storyline is consistent with the other games in the series and is filling in some missing holes in the plot

the graphics are great (this is the first ps3 game that i've played that supports 1080p).
Meryl in ps3 graphic is pretty "foxy"

multiplayer is pretty fun...its comparable to rainbow six: vegas multiplayer and there is a leveling system just like CoD4 (except to lvl 25 i believe)

and the gameplay of solo play is great also (the A.I. is smart as shit since i'm playing on hardest setting and its pretty cool how they interact within the environment trying to find your ass), the game offers a lot of guns and customizations (unlocks) that makes it fun trying to earn them.
