Yes, they're having an outstanding season. The schedule hasn't been that tough, but no one has given them a game all year. They are expected to be the top seed (and heavy favorite) in the 4A East, unless enrollment has increased enough to put them into the 4AA East, where they would still be the favorite.
The Fantastic 50, for October 16, 2007 1) Independence (7-1) 152.5 (LW#1) 2) Charlotte Latin (8-0) 145.3 (LW#2) 3) W. Alamance (9-0) 139.2 (LW#4) 4) W. Charlotte (7-1) 138.6 (LW#6) 5) Hoggard (7-0) 138.5 (LW#7)

what is your opinion of Leesville Rd? After they beat Sanderson fairly easily last week, what do you think the outcome of the CAP-7 will be? 10/19/2007 11:25:42 AM |
fantastic50 All American 568 Posts user info edit post |
Leesville is the best team in the Cap Seven; opinion is split over the best team in the area, between Garner and the Pride. I was shocked at their dismantling of Sanderson last week; the Spartans are a pretty decent team. Because Leesville is putting up a lot of points, their defense is going largely unnoticed, but it's probably the best overall defense in the area; they've given up more than seven points only twice all year. (In comparing defenses, I'd put Fuquay-Varina's run defense #1 locally, and they've also given up more than 7 points only twice, but their DBs were torched by Athens Drive.)
Leesville is the odds-on favorite to take the Cap Seven, which is easily the area's strongest league, but it's far from a done deal. I have them favored by 9 points tonight against Millbrook, and 8 in the finale against WFR. The rain is a great equalizer, and Millbrook has the talent to pull the upset, if Leesville turns the ball over multiple times.
With the three Cap Seven powers, plus Garner, Southeast Raleigh, and Athens Drive all likely to be high seeds in the 4AA east, Wake County football is the strongest that I've ever seen it, and there will be some terrific playoff games among that group. Home field advantage will likely be decided by draws, as there will be multiple conference champions reporting 10-0 records (one non-conf. game is dropped for teams that play eleven.) Additionally, Fuquay-Varina could win a couple of playoff games in the 4A East, which will be a much weaker bracket; I think they'll be the only Wake school in the small 4A playoffs.
There are some good teams from outside of the area, and Athens Drive is capable of beating anyone, but my hunch is that Garner and Leesville will be playing in early December for the right to face Indepedence in the 4AA state championship game. 10/19/2007 12:12:49 PM |

I'm not really convinced of the Cap 7 strength yet. They haven't really beaten anyone good out of conference ...
Millbrook lost to garner, its only real out of conference team with a legit winning record.
Leesville just beat Millbrook, and that is the only team with a winning record they have played, unless you count sanderson as a legit team (also hasn't beat a team with a good record)
I think you may see garner reach the east finals and see someone out of the area playing them. There are plenty of strong teams elsewhere in the state. 10/20/2007 9:24:42 AM |

Hope Cary doesn't get rained out tonight. It's homecoming and my sister is on the homecoming court as a senior. If they postpone until tomorrow nigt, I will be furious.
Also, it still amazes me at the football teams who make the playoffs compared to other sports. For example, I played baseball at Cary HS and we had a good team... finished 3rd a couple of years I played varsity but only the top two made the playoffs. And our conference was loaded in baseball (Lee County, Apex, Green Hope, and Fuquay among others)... then in football they take like 5 or so teams.

There was no agreement between Cary and Fuquay about when they would each play...that's a team-by-team decision. If Fuquay beats Apex and Athens beats Middle Creek (both expected) then there won't be anything on the line for Fuquay next week; they'll finish 2nd in the Tri-Eight, win or lose. 10/26/2007 10:11:01 PM |

Cary needs one more win (which they should get tonight) to be safely in. If they lose their last two, they'll be squarely on the bubble. Even if they do get in, they're looking at a first-round trip to one of the four undefeated teams in the 4AA East (Garner, Leesville, Athens Drive, and the Leesville/WFR winner). It's likely to be a short stay in the postseason, but at least they get one more week of practice, and the Imps could pull off the big upset, like they did last year at New Bern.

Middle Creek 42, Athens Drive 28 - MC pulls off the upset rather easily. I heard that it could have been worse than it was. This sets up a potential three-way tie between these two and Fuquay-Varina for the Tri-Eight championship. That could really drop the seed of Fuquay or Athens, despite likely 10-1 records, if either draws #3 and is in the same class as Middle Creek.

I am from Monroe and i believe this school just opened this year. If I am not mistaken then this used to the the "career center" it was a program where kids that wanted to go to community college could attend and take courses towards their associates. Something along those lines, regardless this doesn't surprise me at all, I was surprised they even had a football team.

Princeton in the West and other screwy stuff happens every year, because they split up the 64 teams in each class into groups of 32 by enrollment (1A - 1AA, etc.), then split each group of 32 into two groups of 16 geographically. The smallest schools (1A) are mostly in the eastern third of the state, so a few of them get sent to the mountains to have 16 teams for a 1A west bracket.
Check out some of the previous years' 1A brackets... http://www.gobiggreen.net/NCHSAA/2000-2007%201A.htm
Also, it's possible that a 10-1 Athens Drive or 10-1 Fuquay-Varina team could get sent on the road in the first round, thanks to those #@#%#@ three-way draws for conference championships, combined with the NCHSAA seeding a 5-5 conference champ ahead of a 10-1 runner-up. 10/30/2007 2:18:17 PM |
