how is ready to die biting illmatic?? they are both baby pics but that's it , if you say that's biting then every artist with a pic of their face on an album is biting.

if you love nas and hate jay-z u obviously aren't listening to lyrics. u say jay-z only makes party/cub joints listen to any NONE single. and i can easily make a list of nas quotes in which he's trying to be deep or introspective and ends up making no fucking sense or contradicting himself. Plus your discounting the fact that jay-z doesn't write. u say jay-z has an edge because he's got better production but nas has had dj premier from day 1 and worked with dre, timberland, scott storch pretty much every hip hop producer that matters except just blaze and kayne(except the last album)

i dont understand how somebody can say that jay's best work was reasonable doubt...and then say that nas's best work was illmatic...and then say that illmatic was BETTER than reasonable doubt...and THEN say that jay is a better emcee

btw the only nas albums i own are illmatic and it was written, and i dont own any jay albums

i just get pissed when a lot more skilled emcees than jay like pharaohe monch and talib and black thought and others basically get shit on by whoever and jay is crowned king mc when he really doesnt deserve it

and older cats like lord finesse and kool g rap are 100x iller than jay but 50% of cats on jay's dick have never even heard of them

nas is far from my favorite emcee and i agree he has fallen off a shitload... imean wtf hate me now i like the idea of the message but wtf you get puffy on that shit? motherfucking puff daddy? falling off like krs...but still jay is all about the dollars...he admits he spoonfeeds people...he admits he doesnt come sharp...so how the hell is he the better mc than somebody who doesnt spoonfeed people

are we arguing who's a better emce/ lyricist/what ever or who's a better package. you can be a great emcee and still fuckin suck. let's take canibus for example great emcee, great lyrics, word play, beast of a battle rapper etc. but he can't make a track that everyone can dance too, can't put together an entire cohesive and enjoyable album, and he really doesn't have a swagger/presence/delivery and not every can relate to him etc.

all those things are secondary in being an artist but they are all part of the formula. if u're lacking those u can't be crowned as "better".

i'm personally arguing who is the better emcee/lyricist...i cant vouch for what others are commenting on

and canibus is probably a good example...for his skills, for whatever reason he never seemed to get beats good enough for his albums to sell...maybe what he did didnt sell...i dunno...he might suck at selling records but he certainly sucks less at rapping than both nas and jay

course as far as "who is a better emcee" canibus would murder jay any day...personally i could give a shit who makes people dance...that type song has its place in the club and radio or whatever...but thats not the head nod shit i have in my 100 disc changer

matter of fact heres some shit any real head should like more than nas or jay...at least in my opinion

Big Pun was great....period.

FWIW, Jay's song "Minority Report" is terrible and horribly political. Damn, what is he doing? Come on Jay, you are better than that.

How can he relate to Hurricane Katrina? I mean, most of his music/lyrics are "real life", but this song completely blows.

something needs to be done about bill oreilly. really, if a black man acted like he did one tv, he would be considered oppressed and racist and the show would not air for long.
