Do you know why he has no stats to show for it? BECAUSE THEY ARE RUNNING AWAY FROM HIM, THEY ARE DOUBLE TEAMMING HIM, THEY ARE DOING EVERYTHING THEY CAN STAY AWAY FROM HIM. Vince Young is touching the ball EVERY play, Bush touches the ball 20+ times a game. It would be embarassing if they didn't do something with so many touches. HIS LACK OF STATS SPEAKS VOLUMES FOR HIS POSITION.

haha, so now you are claiming he is a badass player because he has bad stats?

Wow, this thread just got a whole lot funnier.

It makes sense though, the defensive awards each year usually go to the players with the worst stats, I had never noticed that.

No worse than Bush defenders last year claiming he was effective as a decoy before he had any td's last year.

Yep, and everyone said that was nonsense. So lets just rely on stats, something Mario has very few of.

Nobody has answered my question yet. How many years of playing average will it take for you people to admit he is a bust at #1?

if, within his first 5 years, he is relegated to 2nd string or worse, i'll admit he was a bust. so long as he's starting, he's doing something right.

Ha ha.

MacGyver has increased his trolling level in the past few days in this thread. Mario is on pace for 10 sacks this season. Not once have I ever heard that a player getting 10 sacks in a season meant he had a bad year or was a bust. Go fuck yourself troll boy.

Yeah, he is " on pace" to have 10. Does he have 10? Nope. Hell he has gone 3 out of the 5 games without even having a sack. Don't base someones supposed final numbers by what they are on pace to hit. Hell, at some points during this past season ARod was on pace for over 70 HRs. Did he end up with that? Nope, not even close to it.

^^^ Ha ha worst argument ever. By that same logic, you could say that well Pat Burrell only hit 10 HRs in the first half, but hit 20 in the second half so Mario will get 15 sacks.

^^It was an example of how athletes rarely reach the #s by year end that they are on pace to reach early or mid season.

Mario is currently second in the AFC in sacks for a DE (half a sack behind Jared Allen).

Thus far, he has outplayed Freeney, Peppers and Will Smith.

Yeah and I gave you an example of a player who increased his pace as the season went on. You do realize that players can actually play better as the season progresses right?

Either way trying to state that Mario will not reach 10 sacks because A-Rod did not hit 70 HRs is the weakest argument since Al Gore said he invented the internet.

Jesus, are you really this stupid? I am not saying Mario will not reach 10 sacks because Arod did not hit 70. I used Arod as a prime EXAMPLE of how athletes rarely reach the numbers that they are on pace to reach early in a season. Could Mario reach 10 sacks. Of course. Will he not reach 10 sacks because Arod did not hit 70 home runs? It doesn't matter, the two are not related to each other. It was just an EXAMPLE of how a player doesn't always end up with what they are on pace to have by the end of the season.

Its really not that hard to understand.

Just don't come in here talking like Mario already has or is guaranteed 10 sacks because that is what he is on pace to end up with, when its only 5 games into the season.

But when we predict a good season and actually use evidence to back it up, he says it's not enough.

10 sacks is no comparison to 70, 60 or even 50 home runs

You could easily have 3 or 4 big games and reach 10 sacks.

You would need 3-4 great months to even approach 50 home runs.

Ok here is a list of the teams they play coming up and what weeks and where.

6 Oct 14 HOU @ JAC
7 Oct 21 TEN @ HOU
8 Oct 28 HOU @ SD
9 Nov 04 HOU @ OAK
10 Bye
11 Nov 18 NO @ HOU
12 Nov 25 HOU @ CLE
13 Dec 02 HOU @ TEN
14 Dec 09 TB @ HOU
15 Dec 13 DEN @ HOU
16 Dec 23 HOU @ IND
17 Dec 30 JAC @ HOU

up until week 5 here are the sacks allowed by their team

Pct. QB Sacks Allowed
JAX- 31% 15 sacks allowed
TEN-13% 5 sacks allowed
SAN-15% 9 sacks allowed
OAK-27% 10 sacks allowed
NOL-3% 4 sacks allowed
CLE-17% 10 sacks allowed
TEN-13% 5 sacks allowed
TAM-16% 7 sacks allowed
DEN-9% 6 sacks allowed
IND-1% 3 sacks allowed
JAX-31% 15 sacks allowed

anything over 15% is pretty terrible pretty more than one per game. that calculates up to about 6 more sacks for mario this year if he and his defense remains healthy.
add this all together and Houston comes out to have the 5th easiest schedule in terms of sacks.

this means that only 4 other teams should have more sacks, Mario being the main guy on that team that gets these he would naturally be rated pretty highly.

Id say he has a pretty good chance to make it to 10 sacks at this rate, some teams may allow more than one per game such as that guy on the Giants the other night if his matchup is favorable.

I love how Mario is awful but when Young/Bush are brought up it is because they didn't go #1.

You brought in those numbers and then someone pulled up those two's numbers and were lower ranked.

Vince Young played like shit yesterday and the Titans lost. What a piece of shit, he should quit football

DEs almost always have inconsistent stats. Some games, a DE puts up five tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, and two pass deflections. Other games, they get only one or two tackles. It is all dependent on the team they are playing and how the other team is blocking that DE. Mario is due for another solid game soon.

Vince and Reggie have both had multiple great games. Vince lead his team to 8 wins in a row last year, and took home the ROY. Mario has had EXACTLY one good game since he got into the league. For a risky #1 pick, that sure isn't getting it done.

And who are these "experts" you are claiming that taking Mario now was the correct pick? I have yet to see any articles or any people on TV saying it was the right pick. The only reason it might be a somewhat more acceptable pick is because they ended up getting lucky and were able to trade for Schaub. Even then, you can't justify taking him #1 so far with the way he has produced.

Bill Parcells?

Houston made the right pick. You don't take a RB over a DE with the measurables of Mario. His career will be shorter and you can get just as good of a RB in any other draft. Houston also needed defense.

As far as Young, if there's a clear-cut #1 QB, then you may want to take him. Not every pro scout was sold on Young....and he's really not been very good, either.

None of the 3 have been worthy of a #1. I think in the long-haul, Mario will be. You can't dominate the DE position at age 22. Top-Notch athletic freak DE's don't come around very often...RB's are a dime-a-dozen.

I wouldn't mind seeing a comparison of #1 picks over the years and what position they have come from. Not really focused on NFL success but I wonder how much marketability comes into play... obviously from a P.R. standpoint Houston came out looking awful..

^ I love Rome, but he changes with the wind. All of last year he was KILLING the Texans for selecting Mario over Reggie and VY..

Vince would have instantly sold out all home games for the Texans and made them tons of money. Afterall, this is a business. He would have done for them what Vick did for Atlanta early on. Turn a terrible franchise into one that matters. Sells out games, and gets fans interested. Once you get the fans support, you are going to be a lot better off. As I have pointed out before. Look at how excited the Houston fans were last year when the Titans came into town and how they were all chearing for the opposing QB and not even their own team. That place went crazy when, and not to rub it in, Vince ran right by Mario to score the game winning TD. Houston pissed off an already disgruntled fan base by taking Mario, who had/has almost zero marketability there, or even in the NFL for that matter. Every home game could have been like that, yet they chose a risky, and so far, dissapointing pick. All this on top of letting Carr go after passing on Young because Carr was the QB of the future for the Texans.

Woah, woah, woah...since when did Atlanta ever fucking matter in football? They made the playoffs with him once? twice? but he couldn't even string together back-to-back winning seasons.

Heh... and Michael Vick kept a terrible franchise a terrible franchise.

I think it worked out well for the Texans. Young is nearly a rookie, but give me Matt Schaub any day as for what I've seen thus far. Maybe Young will be a great QB, but for now, the verdict is still out.

As far as Bush goes, I just don't think you take a RB with the #1 pick unless you know he's a slam dunk. Bush was incredible in college, but generally scat-backs don't fare too well in the NFL.

I'm not saying Mario has shown the ability to be the #1 pick (Hell, he never did in college)... but he possibly has the perfect measurables for a top-notch DE.

I guess we'll see in a few years
