Hour long comedies generally struggle because they have to give you 42 minutes of laughs.

Traditional hour long shows like crime dramas, mystery shows, and serial shows like Lost and Heroes have less pressure because they just have to work to come together at the end. A show can me mediocre until the last 5 minutes and then turn out to be really good if the ending delivers. A comedy can't only be funny near the end and be effective.

It's the same with movies, and why dramatic movies are typically at least 30-45 minutes longer than comedies.

AHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHHHAAHAHA

Somebody called you pretentious, but you are so much more than that...pathetic.

Dude, seriously, your sense of humor is so intense that you don't even laugh at your basic situational comedy???

That's fucking weird. I hope you understand that the world's greatest comedians laugh at fucking farts.

It's difficult to establish a comedy hierarchy since comedy is pretty low in the rankings of art.

But congrats for trying though.

That was fucking awesome, I knew he was in the band but I never made the connection between that song. Also 'midnight confessions' by them is good too.

but the worlds greatest comedians dont laugh at stupid shit "sitcoms" that the general population see's as hilarious such as Yes dear, everybody loves raymond, friends and other overdone easily predictable comedy scenario's.

i laugh at farts and other immature stuff

im not trying to come off as elitist, but there's so much redone slop out there ( ie. basic situational comedies) that is loved by the general population of dumbass people who dont like to think a little more than usual to get the joke

judging by the insults in your post im sure you are one of those who is at the bottom of the barrel, laughing your ass off to carlos mencia and scrubs

What does it matter really. The point of television is to enjoy yourself. If you like stupid shows then it doesn't make you less of a person compared to someone who watches shows that require more thinking.

I honestly can not understand how someone can absolutely love The Office but hate SCRUBS. Its pretty much the same humor except one is in a hospital and the other is in, a....wait for it...OFFICE. To like one, and not the other, is just beyond me. Its like if you had seperated Siamese twins and only loved one of them....you would be a terrible parent.

scrubs and the office are not the same show but I get the feeling that if the writers got together they'd probably get along real easily because they have the same sense of humor

the only thing i don't really like about scrubs is the random emo moments when JD comes to some pussy realization, and for a minute it feels like i'm watching a sappy teen drama...but those moments are short lived, so i'll let it slide

I missed it on the initial viewing, but noticed it on the second run through and wikipedia confirmed it.

When Creed dyes his hair, he uses the black ink from the printer, leaving Michael with no ink to print the pictures.

Maybe it was obvious to some of you, but I didn't catch it till now.

^^Not what you had hoped for? Well same here. I had hoped the link would work.

^There is no way that was obvious to anyone who watches this show. But now that I know this, its makes that scene of him walking in even more hilarious.

scrubs is not the same type of humor as the office. scrubs is like humor for retarded people. never understood how anyone likes that show. the last episode i watched of it, the girl from the drew carey show was having a sword fight with some other chick... wtf? how is that funny

oh, and i'm curious to know what shows pcmsmurf thinks are funny if he has a better sense of humor than 99% of people

Dude, I called you pathetic. That's hardly an insult. In this case, it's a statement of fact.

And you say you're not trying to be elitist, but in the same breath, you turn around and claim I'm "at the bottom of the barrel."

I'm an astute, sensitive television viewer. I love TV, and for many years, I did not have cable in my bedroom...so I had to watch complete garbage at two o'clock in the morning very closely, very deeply to find the decency and the universal themes that rang true and good to me. The fact that I stayed up through hours of TV just so I could catch Taxi at 5 am...well, that makes me pathetic.

But at least I'm not fucking elitist about comedy.

And what an excellent episode tonight, much better than the past two, that's The Office that I remember, good times...

i think i'm in a TV-watching funk, or something. I haven't really laughed at The Office or 30 Rock since they started this season. I didn't even really laugh much at the touretts South Park last week.
maybe everything really is funny, and it's just me.....
I am enjoying Heroes, though.

i think the kidnapping was on par with driving into a lake last week - too over the top, cruel, stupid, and not funny. As a co-worker put it last week after the lake incident, "a bad joke told badly"

It seems that at least for this season, the show starts to struggle when Michael Scott gets pissed off. Of course, some parts are funny, but he ends up doing some things that aren't exactly rational and it hurts the show. (Driving car into lake, trying to take back gift baskets, "kidnapping" the pizza guy).

Him cussing out Ryan was awesome though.

I saw the whole kidnapping the pizza guy as Michael taking out his frustration of a younger Ryan getting promoted to corporate. I agree that it was too over the top... of course Michael has had plenty of "no one would ever do that" moments in previous seasons.

Yeah I really never liked Andy much, but that was a ballsy move and he pulled it off pretty well...

Also I thought the part where Jim had to keep confirming to Andy that he was mocking him was pretty funny too

Both these things (well more when they went back to get the gift basket) bothered me and seemed to be out of character for Michael, who while an unaware idiot, has not seemed cruel or malicious in the past.

Other than the kidnapping I thought this episode was better but think they should stick to hour episodes on occasion.

Yeah well thought out, quality hour episodes on occasion are great, but hour just for the sake of being an hour episodes can get kinda tiresome

They need to just have 2 totally seperate 30min episodes and play them back to back. Scubs did this either last season or the season before for awhile and it worked well.
