Still have to say it was the wrong call to kick from the hash with 30 seconds left.

Should have ran a qb sweep toward the middle of the field and fell down at about the 8 or 9 yard line.

Then either kicked the FG or lined up and spiked it with <10 seconds left.

That would have been heavily scrutinized if they don't block that last kick.

Agreed, I couldn't believe they kicked on first down. It almost cost them too, they were extremely lucky to win with that coaching decision.

It's not like they had ten seconds left, they had close to thirty. There's plenty of things that can go wrong (and almost did) when you score with that much time left without even trying to milk the clock. Even a few "throw away" passes run some time off, they don't even have to try to score.

I kinda agree with that decision. I mean your a 1-AA school, with no timeouts, down 1, 30 secs left, against the #5 ranked team in the country, in their home stadium in front of 100,000+ people.

They had success spreading the field and running, but they also had a fumble and were stopped for losses at times as well.

If they run a dive to get into the middle of the field, the defense will try everything to keep the ball from being spotted quickly, then you have to run the FG unit on the field, and get them in place, and make a perfect snap, and kick.

Plus if the kick was blocked and they recover behind the line of scrimmage, they can possibly get another play off. Running the clock down eliminates that.
