That's true but if they call it dead doesn't the play automatically end there no matter if it was called dead correctly or not? It has to be because who is to say the other team wouldn't stop playing? (in this case it wouldn't matter but the rule has to hold constant through the game...)

Oh and I was wondering what the flag thing was the entire review.. I saw it thrown during the play.

However, the refs can do whatever they feel is necessary to make things right--like if you make an illegal tackle on someone with a clear route to the endzone, you can technically just award the TD, right?

They got that play right. It was ruled a fumble and a turnover... there was a personal foul roughing the passer on the play though that nullified it.
