i am going skiing/snowboarding for the first time at wintergreen w/ some friends for the day. i used to skateboard when i was younger, i know how to water ski and wakeboard (not well, but i know how).
i really want to snowboard but i don't want to spend the whole day learning and falling down and not being able to have fun. i'm not really interested in the terrain park too much (although that could change when i get there ?).
my brother has tried snowboarding, skiing, and those short snowblade ski things. he recommened the snowblades b/c they're easier but you can't go as fast as someone on normal skis.
which of the 3 should i go with? any other tips? 1/14/2008 3:04:31 PM |

if you plan on coming back often I would try snowboarding
if your friends are any good you will probably get left (on purpose or by accident) unless they are really really patient all day long
otherwise i would do snowblades 1/14/2008 10:48:15 PM |

i think i'll go snowblades, if those aren't available i'll go for the snowboard. 1/15/2008 8:21:19 AM |

^^^^ although...why did you pick WY for a spring break ski trip?
I skiied Park City one year for spring break...I figured you'd wanna go ski somewhere with more places to drink, party, and get properly boned, since it's still spring break--even if it's not at the beach. 1/17/2008 1:49:58 PM |

Maybe Mt. Hood this weekend, or maybe Stevens Pass, or Mt Baker again.
if I could find anyone to go to Whistler, I'd go there. 1/17/2008 11:02:54 PM |

im going to Jackson Hole. Going during spring break bc thats when i have off from school, durh, and one of my best friends is a manager at the four seasons and she said it slows down in march. She said that most ppl dont normally think the mountain will be good for skiing then so people dont come.
Im stoked! 1/18/2008 3:08:22 PM |

sugar was nuts today....made my first run around 7:45 a.m. sun was still rising and the lights were on . figured id get out there and get as much good snow as i could before the families wrecked shop. as predicted, by about 12 it turned into a circus. tom terrific and whoopdedoo were both open with whoopdedoo having some of the best snow ive ever seen on it early in the morning. naturally by about 11 it was an ice sheet. still a solid day overall. terrain park still m.i.a....then again...its sugar mtn. stopped at a supermarket parking lot on the way back and filled the truck bed to the brim with snow in hopes of settin up a couple hits on some local rails tomorrow in raleighwood. please keep snowing. off to the bball game...lets go pack.
on another note: spring break in park city area is looking more promising than ever. wooooooot 1/19/2008 6:31:41 PM |

^^well, i'm moving there for poker so......but yea i'm gonna try to get a part-time job at sierra or something to try to score a free lift ticket, but if not season passes aren't that much.
well i mean poker is one of the reasons, obviously there are a ton of other reasons to move there too.

Goddammit, we'd planned on skiing Stevens Pass today. My roommate dragged ass worse than a woman and had us leave the house 30-45 minutes late...then when we stopped at the sporting goods store for him to buy a pair of snowboard boots, he took like 20-30 minutes looking for a pair (which he should've done the night before, anyway).
Then we drove about an hour up to meet another friend of ours on the way. We were supposed to meet him at the AT&T store, where he was taking care of a billing problem. Well, what he told us would take 10 minutes ended up taking 45.
At that point, I said "Fuck it, it's stupid to even go at this point", so we ate lunch and drove an hour back home.
Now my roommate wants to sit on his ass and watch football tomorrow. My other roommate is down in Oregon skiing Mt Hood. Nobody else wants to or can go...
So, I've been off work since Friday morning and don't have to go back until Tuesday, and I'll still only get to ski ONE fucking day out of this weekend (on top of the fact that I was already a little irritated because we'd been talking about going to Whistler this weekend, then people backed out).
more proof positive that snowboarders are slower than shit at just about everything, then fuck it up half the time anyway.

Went out to Mt Baker again today...totally clear, not a cloud in the sky! that's almost unheard of there--usually it's overcast, flat light, can't see shit (and often snowing).
Slopes were well groomed (first time I've really seen that there, too), but there were some slightly icy spots since they somehow haven't had snow in a few days.
I only fell twice today, but one of them was the mother of all yard sales. I lost my hat, goggles, both skis, both poles, and unbuckled one of my boots. It was tumbling, sometimes airborne, flailing trip down the mountain for 100-200 yards. Not good. 1/21/2008 10:32:31 PM |

for those of you that hit up the mountains west of denver (breck, arapahoe, keystone, etc) where did you get your best deal on a lift ticket? 1/22/2008 12:44:40 PM |
BobbyDigital Thots and Prayers 41777 Posts user info edit post |
They have discount lift ticket coupons (usually will get you a ticket for around $45-50 instead of the usual $82) in the entertainment books in the area, and people often sell the individual lift ticket coupons for a few bucks on ebay.

not bad
the best deal ive come up against so far is $234 for 3 of 5 days, which is exactly what i need...and its the pass that lets you do keystone, breck and a-basin, plus one day at either vail or BC if you so choose
and thats basically exactly what i need....so to have it all bundled like that for $234 is not bad...that's pickup in person though, the next best deal is like $250 online ordering 1/22/2008 1:01:51 PM |

I usually go to Winter Park, but you can get the best deal on lift tickets if you can find the "Four Pass". It's basically a pass for any four days of skiing they sell in grocery stores, etc. in the area, and works at several of those areas. I have had someone I know in the area pick one up, gotten one off of ebay, and this year bought one from a local ski shop (local in Virginia, not Raleigh). You may want to search online for them.1/23/2008 6:47:41 AM |

eh, it's only about $30-35/day...Mt Baker and Stevens Pass are fairly cheap, and then I get a military discount.
Today I bought a ticket from a dude on his way out in the parking lot for $25.
they got about 6" of snow today...nice snow conditions--crappy visibility. 1/27/2008 2:57:59 AM |
