ive dropped motors from cars at work. just straight with subframe and susp.

for y0tas and h0ndas it took about under 45mins to get them prepped and ready to put back in.

also depends on what you are taking it off with.
just a motor, or whole subframe, with/without susp.

It was great seeing everyone. I had a great time. Thanks for the burgers and beer Dan. The Dirty ZXAPPEAL (non-living and breathing one) isn't so dirty anymore. I enjoyed meeting some new faces and learning a bit about working with glass.

The valvetrain geometry really needs some attention to detail. When I rebuilt the engine, I did everything in a mad rush. Keep in mind, too, that this was during the pre-diagnosed-and-medicated-for-ADD days, and there were 3 bajillion loose ends everywhere (my signature trademark). Here are a few details:

1. Head was ported and polished. I did a lot of undercutting and smoothing in the seat/bowl area, but looking in there now...I still have work to do. I DID do a halfway decent job of match porting to the intake gasket, though.

2. I did my own 3-angle valve job, and it's not too bad. But I didn't shim the springs accordingly when I assembled the head. I need a valve stem mike to do this properly. Needs new valve springs, too, even though the head comes stock with duals.

3. I broke off a stud and did a complete nigger fix. I need to do the caucasian thing and grind the stud (and a drill bit) out with a carbide bit (and I already have the bit; did not 10 years ago).

4. Head has been decked 0.040". The cam towers have been shimmed 0.045". BUT...I need thicker lash pads on the valves themselves to correct the rocker arm geometry so that valve timing is where it should be and the cam lobes smack the rocker contact patch properly and don't scrub the edge of the rocker's lash surface.

5. I need to finish grind the rocker arms' lash surfaces so that they don't eat the cam for lunch.

6. Reckon I ought to get a brand new cam? FAT profile...mmmmm.

7. I need to re-index the distributor/oil pump drive gear. It's off.

8. I need to buy/rebuild a distributor. I put the old one on my 810 Maxima.

9. There's a water pump bolt that's broken off and needs to be replaced. The front cover might need to be removed for this.

10. I need to put another balancer on the engine. I thought I was being smart by using the L24 balancer, but that's just stupid. It doesn't have enough mass to properly dampen all the harmonics of its longer-stroke sibling, the L28. It's nice and red and pretty, though. This was pretty much before a lot of the ricer rage, so don't give me too much shit about it!

11. I do NOT like the header I had on the engine so it had to come off. It's actually for an earlier square-exhaust-port engine (mine is a round-port head with stainless exhaust liners), and the flange isn't thick enough. It's basically a 240Z header, and I tried to make it work. Stupid idea, but the price was right at the time. I traded an LD28 diesel stroker crank for it. Another stupid move. The damn thing won't clear the steering shaft and is a cramped fit at the firewall. With the stock manifold it would already roast your feet.

"on a scale of 1-10, how hard is it to pull a motor anyways?"

goes quick then you've got all the garage og's on it.

it went from being in the car down to the short block sitting on a stand within an hour. motor/transmission were out within 20-30 minutes. a fair amount of stuff was already unhooked though, so it went a little quicker than "normal". still impressive though. i think it took longer to ride over to Jeepman's and put my wheels on, lol.

This weekend: more cleanup on the car. Grunt work because I'm so broke I don't have the money to dump into parts. Not yet, anyway.

Nothing has happened recently; I decided my time and money was better spent consuming alcohol and being social over the holidays, and that's exactly what I did...it was worth it.

This weekend may be different. The car really needs some cleaning up, and I've got to get parts for the rack and pinion.

Well, fuck all you nigrots. That's French for nigger. The "t" is silent.

Thanks to 69 for coming over and playing with the car with yours truly. Engine bay has been scrubbed clean, and the battery tray has been hacked out (along with a piece of the wheel well; need a patch panel).

Rack and pinion has been disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and greased with some very fucking sticky grease, and mostly reassembled. niggers at Advance don't even have a listing for the rack boots, well, because they are niggers. Even though they are mostly white (especially the managers who wear white)...they are all sambo darkie coons. Now I need new outer tie rod ends. I swear I have some somewhere, but fuck if I know where the fuck the fucking things are. Well, fuck.

Head work has begun, but not having the correct valve lash pads has put that one on hold right now. Engine block is getting a nice coat of silver paint, and the timing cover came off today to do some tweaking on the distributor shaft timing and to remove a broken bolt. I need a harmonic balancer for the mother now. The 240 one I was planning on using is a bad move (don't want an engine that breaks a crank).

There's still a lot of stuff to do, and it's mostly shit work (but ain't it always?). More later as it happens!
