After listening to that I would wager everyone that plays EVE just lost a little self-esteem, me included. Yahtzee is right though, the ui is shit, there shouldn't be a need for warp gates since it takes ages to get to places (why not just fuckin warp to a system from where you are?), and there are way too many restrictions on gameplay mainly due to complex and tedious skill trees. Some one on eve's message boards said it best: "You shouldn't have to prepare for ages just to have fun."

They really need to revamp EVE and i'm not talking about adding stupid content. I could give a shit about walking in stations in the first place. Hire a team soley for the purpose of fixing bugs if there isn't one already and fix the damn game and make it playable. The Russians even got together and adressed this issue in a usability report http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=856065 which I thought was spot on, but some sore moderator with his head up his ass got on and told people to quit signing it because it was considered "spamming." We're not asking it to be like World of Warcraft, but it does need to start playing with the ease and familiarity of other mmos because its interface sucks donkey balls. Seriously, game play can range from decent to having some terrible accounting job you loathe.

~End of rant

So I decided to start an account and fly around while waiting for wotlk to be released.

What are the best race/class/skill combos for things like tanking or dps or mining/trading? I'm not sure what I want to do yet, well, rather I have no fucking clue how a lot of this stuff translates from other traditional mmo designs.

Anyone have a corp I can join? Hook a nig up with some $texas

brand new character

I've trained less than 5 skills at this point, so I can reroll if I have to. I just don't want to make a dumb mistake early that handicaps me way down the road.

This is my dude after 3-4 months; I'm making a run for Interdictors now.... http://www.newforms.nl/eve/skills/Sir_Cuddles

From what I hear, they're not nerfing speed, they're nerfing nanos, and making afterburners have a purpose (you can't micro-warp through/out of a warp disruption bubble).

If you're a brand new character, and you plan on doing stuff with ships late in the game, it'll pay to take one of these builds. http://wiki.goonfleet.com/index.php?title=Recommended_Base_Stat_Builds It will start you out very close to Cruisers, and give you a lot of perception and intelligence. in general, intel is good in the beginning for learning/engineering/electronics, perception ends up being the bigger pain with gunnery/ship command.

honestly, train your learning skills.

it's shitty and boring, but you set yourself up to train the rest of the skills much much faster.

start with memory/intelligence, then do the others

read the Goonfleet wiki about starting out, training and skillpoints. Rolled an Amaar Khanid Cyber Knight with a Special Forces background. Training up Lvl 2 Cruiser right now, and I'm finding it much easier to run around and kill stuff.

Can't wait til I get my Maller.

Hola.

Looking to reorient myself with this game.

Got to sell my ships that I cant get to anymore because I didnt play and got kicked out of the corp because I stopped playing. Deservedly.

Got alot of skill points though. near 11million or so. Anyone in a corp that would take someone that doesnt play that much and there isnt a requirement to be active alot? I havent actually experienced any PvP really. Just was ratting with a myrm to get money. No experience fighting really. Probably would blow myself up first time I tried tbh.

Holla!

Sayer, what's your name? I'll send you a couple million ISK.

I just put some PLEXs up on the market to make myself some quick cash. Like WoW and other subscription-based games, you can buy timecard codes instead of having an autodrafting charge on your credit card, and pay as you go. The really groovy thing with EVE is you can sell these in-game for e-money. And since the market in EVE is better than any market in any other MMO, because it has buy-orders as well as sell-orders, I thought the graph on this turned out to be really neat.

Step 1: Get in good with a corp in 0.0
Step 2: Setup moon mining player-owned stations that mine while I'm offline
Step 3: Make 1-2 billion ISK a month

Think I had about 15 mil when I left. Dont care in the least bit. I consider it about 200 bucks i'll never get back. It's also the last time I ever pay to play for a game. Well, depending on how good darkfall is.

CCP parades as a customer friendly company who consists of avid gamers who like to play the game as much as they add on to it. That may be true but they're not customer friendly. They're all just trying to exploit as much money out of it as they can. With the exception of trinity they release meaningless content for the game and fix maybe 1 to 2 serious bugs or faults that have been promised fixes for years. They'll keep adding more skills to already overflowing skill tree to keep those account subscriptions pumping in.

Their only saving grace would be if they took away like 85% of the stargates, introduced a new way to jump from system to system. Got rid of the fucking stupid gate camping endgame they got going and fix the ui so it wouldn't be so redundant and complex. But heaven forbid you question anything CCP has planned for their precious EVE. Thats why I gave up on it a long time ago. Also it would be easy as pie to make an unexploitable skill que list, and it has been proposed many times.

Kinda like how capital ships can't use stargates, and need cyno fields lit?

Gatecamping end-game? Most people consider mothership or titan as end-game PVP. I can't stand gatecamping, and usually only fly roaming ops of cruisers or lighter. The game is what you make of it, and nobody ever tells you how to play the game, which is why it's a niche game that isn't for everyone.

Large scale alliance warfare consists of cynoing capitals and black ops, yes this is true. But the majority of fleet members are dispersed corps that run to the aid of a hot system. This comprises the bulk of the fleet members in the alliance and their mode of travel is of course gates. This is where commanders focus there numbers. The whole game revolves around bottlenecks which are the gates themselves. Its all about who gets their guns lined up first and how many ships you got in your fleet, all other strategy is moot. Capitals are too valuable an assest to be used in a wild manner. It still boils down to the same scenerio, the gatecamp. In system fighting usually always migrates towards gates anyway in these types of battles.

Eve may have a loyal fan base but its really only because this niche you're talking about is being the only spaceship mmo out there (for now). Like I said before, imo, it's a sucker trap. It wasn't a complete game when it first came and it still sucks now.

You've obviously never even seen a Titan, or had one hot-drop in a battleship fleet. Titans let you jump sub-capitals in as if they were capitals.

No major battle has ever occured at a jump gate. It's a nice ambush point, but all of the large (200+ ship) battles are going to take place around a player-owned station.

Player-owned stations are where a lot of mining occurs, so you take those down, you take down a corp's means of production (and/or their wallet). Have more stations in a system than them, and you can take sovereignty of the system. Hold sovereignty long enough, and you can anchor more advanced modules like cyno jammers and jump bridges.

Now this game is obviously not for noobs or carebears. You can't waltz around the universe in your carebear frigate and expect everything to be okay when you get exploded. EVE is a pretty lawless place, full of people trying to scam you out of your money and bait you into ambush traps so they can disable your warp drive, get your ship damaged into hull, and ransom it back to you. It's the closest thing to a piracy simulator you're going to find.

There is nothing wrong with the challenge eve poses as a game. I relish deeply-involved rpg's, they are of my video game weaknesses. But there is a time when a game insist upon itself. I dont know if you ever watched family guy to get that reference but thats exactly what eve does, it insist upon itself. Yes you can be anything you wish - a miner, a scientist, a pirate, or a jack of all trades. But they however neglect to tell you that you're going to be training for up to a year and a half to be mediocre at anything, at a monthly fee which ranks to be one of the highest on the market. What eve really boils down to is an ultra-high glossed polished turd. Pressing F1 through F8 to pwnzor people in a physics engine that runs more aquatic then it does a real space environment is fun for a couple months tops. You really dont have to be a master rpg player to be good at eve, you do have to be patient though, and to me that doesn't make a good game.

Today marks the end of an era. Today, Band of Brothers was disbanded by a corporate spy, a director who was tired of all the BS.

http://go-dl.eve-files.com/media/0902/mittani.mp3

BoB after suffering a lot of defeats (like a reckless leader losing two Titans within a week, losing almost all but their corner of space), and attacks within Delve, their home region, they got scared. Losing their home turf looked like a possibility, so the decision was made to move a lot of important assets to NPC stations. The opportunity was ripe for a smash and grab. The Goons stole these assets, disbanded the alliance, and created another alliance (stealing the name). All sovereignty in BoB systems was lost, which means all their jump bridges are offline, and cyno jammers are offline so anyone can jump in capital ships.

There's a feeding frenzy going down there right now. That space is some of the most valuable space in the galaxy, having moons with lots of rare minerals and rats with some of the highest bounties anywhere. Everyone wants a piece of the pie. I've heard a few of the BoB high council have rage-quit the game.

This is big. It's like the day the Berlin wall fell.

^^except for the scandal with the T2 BPOs basically being handed to them under-the-table by a CPP developer, or about how for 9 months they abused titans because there wasn't a 15-minute aggression timer to prevent them from jumping in, doomsday'ing, and jumping out?

its kind of funny because CCP's response to BoB abusing broken game mechanics has always been to allow bob to use it up until someone uses it against bob. Then they acknowledge the problem and fix it.

The mechanic that let that guy disolve their alliance without a vote is definitely broken and has come up before but ccp ignored it.

:ironycat:
