she got her training leash off and now has a regular collar/leash! the old one like kinda was almost more of a dog diaper than anything...it like had one strap that went behind the front legs in addition to the part around the neck

Tell that to someone who works in a kennel.

Also, good luck with the barking, my family's poodle barked incessantly till the day he died, nothing EVER worked to stop it.

so anyways...mommy has been out of town since saturday....omg her behavior has dramatically improved....she hasnt used the bathroom inside except for when i put her in mommys room at night...woke up today and she even dookied on her puppy pad(usually goes right next to it for some reason)....anyways....she likes goat milk.....her dinner is now a treat thats cut into like 15 pieces, a cup of some healthy ass organic type dog food, and a half a cup of goat milk...she hardly barked by herself in mommys room last night either

[Edited on March 3, 2008 at 12:35 PM. Reason : oh and i walk her like a mile a day now and play with her..she likes fighting a teddy bear]

[Edited on March 3, 2008 at 12:36 PM. Reason : oh and masking tape works as a muzzle for 10 minutes, then her saliva makes it come off]

i worked in a vet/kennel/training house for 6 years (14-20)...they only poop (for the vast majority) if there's enough room to get away from it...the goal is to put the dog in the perfect-sized crate at night or during the day - all they need is enough room to stand up, and just turn around...i can almost guarantee you (almost because they're living things and they don't always follow the "rules") that he/she won't make a mess in the crate

What would you say about a stubborn ass dog that shits everywhere everytime you put him in a crate.. does fine outside and is being pretty decent about potty training otherwise

well if he's already house-trained...i'd recommend to quit putting him in the crate.

Well the whole point is he isnt house trained completely yet and does especially bad when we leave him home alone...I mean he'll poop 5 mins before we leave, put him in crate, come back in 10 mins and he's crapped everywhere--everytime.

I could understand if I was leaving him in there for like all day or something

sebastian has been a devil over the last two days when i've been to work. yesterday i came home to find my bedsheet in tatters and today he's pulled the bed all across the room, slid the mattresses off and chewed through a bit of the boxspring what amazed me is the bed and frame are reasonably heavy...but he's moved them around easily.

i'm going to put him in his crate from tomorrow...any thoughts? i've found that once he gets used to a room, he really goes to work tearing it apart. did that in the living room and now the bedroom. i suppose i'm going to count down the days to when he chews through the crate!

What part of "punishing them (hours) after the fact does no good because they don't know what they've done wrong" don't you understand?

Also, you're not supposed to punish dogs by shoving them in their crates.

That's true. Keeping a dog that's not ready to be out of the crate IN the crate is the way to go.

I kept my dog in a crate while I wasn't home for a good year or so.

Now, she doesn't tear things up, and she can hang out in my apt while I'm gone for 9-10 hours a day at work.

But that's different than punishing a dog by putting it in a crate. THAT'S what's bad. Not the crate itself.

It kind of sounds like your dog has separation anxiety especially in your case sleepyhead. Talk to your vet, they may have some supplements, or medicine related treatments you could take advantage of. Also, it wouldn't be a bad idea to consult with a trainer or behavoirist. I've heard a lot of good things about Teamworks.

he follows me everywhere when i'm at home so i guess that's a possibility seachel. i put him in the crate while i was at work the last couple of days...it wasn't to punish him; i just needed to prevent further damage to my property

she can get her paw inside the cardboard part and as long as her teeth get a grip on the tape it's easy.

Back on topic.. sorta. I found this program for low-income families (if you make under $13,00 for 1 person home you qualify). It's called the $20 fix. You send in an application for this and if you're approved, they mail you a voucher for a spay/neuter for each pet you have and it will only cost you $20 for the procedure. You can also donate to them by registering your MVP card: https://www.foodlion.com/IntheCommunity/ShopandShare/secure/RegisterMVPCards.asp by selecting AnimalKind. More info on the $20 Fix at http://www.animalkind.org/fix.html.
