I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that. I ate there 2 wknds ago and it was pretty crispy pizza, a little too crispy IMO. I honestly wasn't overimpressed with their pizza, but it definitely wasn't soggy in the least. Have you tried John's Pizza on 44th between B'way & 8th? One of my favorite in the city. Also, there's a really good Ray's on Bowery near Cooper Union.

i didn't read the ENTIRE thing only because i remember this thread and i don't really want to venture backwards into the war zone. but has anyone ever eaten at Piccola Italia at Cameron Village??? its italian owned and supposed to have NY pizza. went in and checked out the menu and the pizza looked yum. just wondering if anyone had tried it.

i like their food...mostly have had their lasagna...never had their pizza...if it's like their other food, it's probably not bad

but if i remember the "italian food in raleigh" thread, we were informed that Piccola Italia was somehow both "the BEST italian in raleigh" and "ABOSULTE SHIT"

^^&^I LOVE Piccilo Italia, and yes it is mentioned in this thread. I think their Italian is good, but 95% of the time I go there I go for the pizza.

I've never had anything but the pizza at Piccolo Italia... and I never will either. Pizza is just too damn good to pass up... I'm hungry now.

"Mellow Mushroom >> Lilly's

I went to Lilly's a couple of months ago and the yuppies had to be there to be seen because it sure as hell wasn't because the pizza is good. And having a bunch of dusty junk/memorabilia tossed around the place does not make it hip--it just makes it cluttered and hard to clean.

BTW, an employee at Lilly's that night was yelling like 20 times for some fucker named "CHUCK!" to come get his pizza--he never did. That was fucking annoying and the place is ridiculously loud anyway.

I know several people who live in Five Points that won't even eat at Lilly's--and it's a block away. What does that tell you?"

Didn't I see you post something along these lines in a thread a while back, marko?

I was in Nashville a few weeks ago and ate at this place called Bosco's.

Before then I thought I'd had the best that pizza had to offer! But this place was on a whole nother level. If you're ever in Nashville you gotta check it out. I had the California pizza.

(^not to slam you in general)

"pizza" with lots of weird unusual toppings is not pizza. rather its something prepared on top of a round piece of dough. No red sauce, no pizza (save white pizzas).

I've been in Raleigh for 10 years now, and have not found a better pizza place than Lilys

Cinnelli's off of Kildaire Farm Rd has pretty good pizza...they have a nice selection of different crusts

mellow mushroom is...a chain

Dominics in Cary has pretty good NY pizza, but it reminds me a lot of <3, which grew very old very quickly while living on/near campus

also i just ate at milton's. because it is close and cheap and not that horrible. i am not that hard to please, though.

it didn't have weird toppings. here it is from their website

Maybe it was how they cooked it ... (they had those brick ovens) either way it was a very very delicious pizza.

Um. . .can you shut the fuck up for once? You don't know what the fuck you're talking about--I've been a drummer since before you were born and spent years around tanks blasting rounds downrange. It happens that there is an appropriate time, place, and level of volume for everything.

It's kind of fucking lame--yet revealing--that you always swoop in to defend the "hip joint" thread du jour. It's like you're saying, "Look at me! I go to all the 'cool' places, so I'm cool, too, right?"

Take your self-esteem issues elsewhere. Whether you like it or not, I am allowed have an opinion about a retail establishment that is--believe it or not--unaffected "due to age."

BTW, I'm not the only one here who feels this way--about you and the places in question. Did you take issue with this guy?

^^^while I'm not sure why a lot of tourists in a restaurant would bother anyone I can understand the affinity for places popular with tourists. Like how most people try to avoid Times Square, its a bitch walking around all the people slowing moving around staring into the sky, ugh.

I would agree that it's a good pizza town

I don't think it's not just because it doesn't have Chicago-style deep dish

I was unaware that Raleigh was Chicago

^ageed. If there are good pizza parlors in the town then it = good pizza town. The town doesn't need to have a pizza style named after it, lol.

I am... I have high standards when it comes to pizza... try it. You won't regret it...

I wouldn't call it "New York style" because it's much different... but the sauce is excellent and everyone with a brain knows the sauce makes the pizza...

Jen

We eat there all the time--for the buffet. It's good. It's way the hell out there off Atlantic, though, by the Sonic.

Make sure to get a punch card if you go out there--it pays off. As a matter of fact, the next time I go, my meal will be free.

Concerning "desert pizza" (sic), a good mnemonic to help you remember how to spell this is as follows: "Dessert--you always want more of it." So, two Ss, see? In addition, "succulant" (sic) should be "succulent."

Just trying to help.
