That sucks...kind of takes away from the whole thing about no dark arts teacher ever stays around for more than a single year because Riddle cursed the position.

I'm in Pittsburgh, and the IMAX version doesn't start here until the 29th either. So I don't think it's a Raleigh thing, I'm assuming that the IMAX version won't be released ANYWHERE until 2 weeks after it starts in the regular theaters.

^2 That's good to know it's not just Raleigh... I think it's because of Transformers being in IMAX. Last time it was released on the right day :\

Yeah, it was opening night last time. But... I didn't really like the IMAX version. I thought the 3D ending was fuzzy. I'll see it for the first time this time in a regular theater. I do wonder when tickets will go on sale.

Well, I can't watch 3D so I definitely wasn't looking forward to that. It just kinda sucks because it's a tradition between me and my cousin to go see it in IMAX and have a day out in Raleigh. We're just gonna settle for a nice theater in Raleigh.. but I will miss the IMAX big screen

Tickets for IMAX go on sale July 15th for non-members, July 8th (I think) for members

IMAX has a four week contract with Transformers. The Harry Potter release date was moved by Warner Brothers to July not knowing IMAX and Transformers had the contract. So the release date at every IMAX had to pushed back except for some theatres in LA and NYC.

^2 Lame..

^ I am skeptical. I just noticed the rating being PG... Which worries me because I feel like there was quite a bit of fighting in the book and I don't want to be watching some watered down shit so kids can watch it.

I don't really care, I've read the books cover to cover and just want to see the director's take on the plot. It's hard to explain, but I really cannot be disappointed with any of the movies, unless the film melts at the theater. I'm a fan, and no, I'm not sorry, lol.

I've read all the books as well (more than once) but I am just wondering if it will be "epic".. Don't get me wrong, I will most likely watch it more than once and enjoy it each time I just had high hopes for this one..

I am looking forward to the scene where Harry and Dumbledore get the horcrux and the inferi attack them

By a non-fan's definition, it may only be a "B+" movie. By my definition, it will be epic.

I have a bad feeling the scene with Dumbledore drinking the goblet and the fight at Hogwarts will be neutered to oblivion. I'm hearing that they are to get the PG rating in....

Well, we already know they cut most of the background fighting for the final scene.

Might also be for extra $$$. Fans won't wait an extra 2 weeks to see it, but then they can go see it again in IMAX afterward.

I think violence levels aren't a big deal if there is no blood. Chronicles of Narnia cut out all blood to keep their rating down, and I don't remember the fight in HBP being bloody at all...just incredibly violent spells and some death going on.

This seems incredibly retarded seeing as how OotP was rated PG-13. Why would they dumb down a harry potter with more "darkness" than OotP to a PG rating. The only reason i can think of is money.

It really makes no sense to sensor down the later movies. They are growing up and the books get darker, more violent, and little more creepier. To go from PG-13 to PG is big step back. There is def some blood (where Draco steps and breaks Harry's nose) and where another character has his face busted.

Anyways, just seems saddening to know they are going to minimize any tough scenes.

^ I just thought of something... Does this mean they're cutting out the part where Harry uses the spell from the Half-Blood Prince's book (the one he has no idea what it'll do) and subsequently slashes Draco open????

sectumsempra... and i think it's a good bet that they will cut that part out, not that its a significant part of the story though (except for the part where he tries to use it against snape and he deflects it, revealing hes the half blood prince).

^ Exactly -- that's why I"m going to be upset if they cut it out. To me it's pretty important.. Plus I figured it would look pretty badass on film, but I guess that's not gonna happen.

Well, they might. I mean, they're playing up the whole Draco plot in the previews. So it could be important from that perspective.

As a small gripey side-note. I wish they would make Ginny prettier. The actress herself is gorgeous, so I just feel like they're stuck on Ginny being a little girl. I mean, she's supposed to be attractive, or am I remembering that incorrectly?

nah, agreed, her face is busted. the only chick that has met expectations of hotness from what i imagined while reading the books was Fleur. Cho is a pretty close 2nd though.

Or at least photshops nice. Maybe it would take to long to airbrush every frame in the movie.

Not really saying those pictures are doctored. Just saying...

She looks good in most pictures I've seen of her. She's 18, but I think they make her look too childish for playing a 15 year old.

I also didn't realize Emma Watson was so pretty either.

I find this part of the story very important. It is pretty large in the aspect that it shows him using a curse from the book. It's pretty dramatic in how he reacts, and tries to hide the book. And its crucial to the Harry v. Draco plot. At least I think so...

I really hope that maybe 20 years down the road they re-make the harry potter films and get a directer/producer that isn't afraid to give it an R rating and really darken it up. I hate how they are sacrificing the content of the book for a bunch of kids. Shit, I've been reading Harry Potter since 6th grade so in a sense I feel like I've grown up with him (nerd, I know ) but it is just really disappointing that they don't progress the seriousness of the movies like how the books became darker/more serious.

I highly doubt this is the last we will see of Harry Potter movie series (or at least I hope it's not!).

I can't wait for it to come to the IMAX, but it sucks that we have to wait two weeks.

I wanted to go and see it Wednesday during the day like I typically see movies to cut down on crowds (I'm a seat snob about movies that I care to see) but then I remembered that it's July and all the kiddies will be out like gangbusters.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/herocomplex/2009/07/harry-potter-countdown-michael-gambon.html Interesting article. Gambon (Dumbledore) said there's a major departure from the book in the scene filming his death. I wonder what they would have changed?
