sort of. a time trial with the normal bunch of cpu opponents, plus items. and instead of the chain chompers tied to their chains, there are a few of them that roam all around the track. so it takes more luck than straight time trials, since items come into play against cpu opponents.

Well if you are consistently getting ~20 seconds more than the Japanese players, it probably means there is a shortcut somewhere on the track that you don't know about that shaves off ~6 seconds per lap.

perhaps, but i've been online and haven't heard of any talk about a major shortcut. in a messageboard and on ign's guide it seems to be a pretty simple track...there's one small shortcut that is only a shortcut if you have a mushroom, that i take sometimes

but if you're in first place you can't get mushrooms and if you stay back behind the pack to get good items you won't have a good time because the cpu sucks.

it does.

go into 2 player mode. then change the rules to sequential or something like that. You select the first race of the GP you want to play and it won't exit out to the course select after each race.

Yeah I think its kinda crappy that you have to unlock everything playing solo.

I spent tonight getting gold on every 50cc cup (since I skipped all that when I started playing). I screwed around on that tournament race for 3 times, napped one time under 2 minutes and let it be before Lost came on.

So do you guys play predominantly with bikes or karts?

I don't really like the bikes too much. Whenever I try and pop a wheelie I have to flick the steering wheel a few times to register, and if it doesn't register it just turns me in some random direction. And I usually powerslide every turn, so only having that level 1 powerslide on the bikes sucks.

^yeah i'm still trying to figure out what works best for me. it's nice doing the level one powerslide with a bike and then going into wheelie immediately to prolong the boost a little. or doing the same after a mushroom boost.

but the karts are nice too with their extra powerslide. but on 150 cc in some of the wilder courses i find myself not being able to hold out the powerslide long enough to get the extra boost (due to the difficulty of the track, or items from cpu or other players, etc), so for now a kart works better for me.
