just watched them jump 10 cent in an hour, rumored to be over 4 dollars by tomorrow morning

nawh, it will not go up over $4 for Gus, President will release fuel from where they have that storage....also, it is petering out (only 115), which is barily at Cat 3, more like Cat 2....will not cause major damage to the offshore platforms...if it had stayed 140 then it would of, but they can survive a barily Cat 3. This is why they price per barrel did not go up last week much, because the Prez said he would release the oil if there was an disruption.

It looks like Gus is going to be far enough away that the 9th ward levees should hold, however, the ones that Kat did not mess with (ones beside the Mississippi) might have issues.

and the main thing is the refineries. It looks like it will go directly near some of the nations main refineries. If any of those refineries take major damage then watch out.

Gus is a weak cat 3, it goes down 5mph, and it is a strong Cat 2....big difference from what it was 150 to what it is now, 115. CNBC on Friday was like...wtf...why is the cost per barrell going down, dont they know a hurricane is coming? I am glad Monday is a holiday, this thing will hit land Mon am and hopefully by Tuesday they will determine not much damage to the offshore platforms, then it just takes time to get people back out there to start up production.

I was in VA last week and paid $3.26.

Again I'll continue to stress this. The refineries are the main thing not the platforms. The platforms aren't much considering us production is like 3% of us consumption. If a refinery were to be destroyed we would be $crewed. Don't quote me but I think 50% of our gasoline is refined in southern la. Also the ports are important as most of our imported oil comes through la ports. Receiving and turning foreign oil into gasoline is an infinitely more important part of the process than the tid little oil we drill out of the gulf.

1.hurricane comes through
2.people get out of harms way
3.coastal property is devastated
4.insurance companies pay local owners who pay local contractors to replace everything
5.all kinds of aid comes in for brand new infrastructure plus fema checks and whatnot
6.everybody comes out better EXCEPT the insurance companies, people who didn't have insurance and people who lost life. maybe a few small time tobacco farmers as well.

actually the more i look the more i loev that thing, it gets updated and you can follow the air plane

it even shows the drops they make, showed an avg of wind at one point to be 116 mph with gust of 145 mph about halfway thru the read. the pressure and everything...

TD#9 has formed. May be a tropical storm soon.

It really wouldn't surprise me if the Hanna track pushes further east over the next day or 2...and could possibly recurve and not make landfall on the east coast.

get to work on TS Hanna....the current models show it making landfall right in the area im living currently. i cant find much of anything about hanna, except it's slow-moving, because everyone is still busy jerking off over gustav.

Originally I would have said the high building in but it looks like it will erode through the week.
There is a cold front that could swing through later in the week and help push it out away from the coast...

Plus, I'm also kind of basing it on past storms that have come up close to the coast like that and banked away. We will see.

Ehhh, just glancing casually...

That front doesn't appear too terribly interesting this week. Kind of a weak back door type deal like today. The high is a bit farther north as well. The models keep trending westward, actually. The GFS and WRF are more in line with a southern SC coast hit instead of a Wilmington entry. We'll see for sure.

As far as history, it's a wash. Though it's rare that we see storms do the wobble back SW towards the Bahamas like Hanna's done. An interesting week is in store.

This isn't surprising at all. Most people are concerned about the oil refineries being damaged, considering that I think most of our oil refineries are on the gulf coast.

so far from the newest data on Hannah that the plane is releasing, 78 mph winds is about all im seeing with 985 mb pressure being the lowest near the center.

altho this thing is pretty big, hurricane force winds are extending WAYYYYY off the northeast, south and southeast sides...if this thing can make any organizational moves it could become a fairly large storm, but I doubt it gets very powerful, all depends on that front that moves in.

Wasn't Hanna supposed to be fighting for her life today and tomorrow? The shear was advertised as strong enough to strip the convection away from the center.

This just shows that while directional forecasting has improved, the intensity forecasts leave a lot to be desired.

I live in Wilmington and can't help but comment on the stupidity of people. Even just looking at facebook status updates you would think we were about to get rocked out by a category 5 storm of the century within 48 hours.

Not only is hanna 3-4 days out, only predicted to be a measly category 1 on landfall, but all predicted models have it as unfavorably likely we will take on the eye wall. In all likelihood you peeps in Raleigh will take on heavier wind and rain than I will.
