Yeah, couldn't find a decent in-game shot of SHODAN. Listing her is cheating though, since the entire game is a protracted battle against her and her abominations- even if you don't realize it at first. I loved that creepy voice.

Not really a boss, but TMNT on NES was always a bit frustrating swimming through that damn seaweed. It did get pretty tough towards the end of the game, though.

this guy just generally rattled my nerves, I never liked facing him cause of the suspense, now that I think about the top down view was a main issue on a lot of bosses, it made them harder and scarier cause you couldn't see them well

I remember that bomb laying guy in metal gear two almost made me stop playing I was so frustrated with the view

I think any game developer would love to be mentioned in this thread

I know for one that I miss the hard battles that required a great amount of skill, and the great sense of accomplishment you got when you won.

It's a shame that most games are dumbed down now so that anyone can win.

You'll notice most of the games in here are old games.

I bet you werent saying that at the time when you were actually playing the game, suffering through the impossible bosses while throwing your controller at the TV everytime you got owned.

I didn't think Alma was that bad. The fireball magic thing knocked her down for a few seconds to do some pretty good damage. That and spamming that really fast shadow jump thing (Flying swallow or something like that). Wait till you get to the damn ghost samurai. And those fucking phantom flying ghost fish all over the damn place.

The part I really hated was that there was not a save point right before the battle so it took a little while to get back to her each time. I tried the ninpu once and it missed horribly so I did not try again.

ok I'm getting really pissed off, I haven't died this much at a boss in prob a year since playing metal gear solid 3

the game just taunted me by asking to switch to easy mode

I haven't wanted to just give up on a game this early in my life

C'thun
twin emps
vael
patchwerk

i guess ragnaros since he was my first mmo 'final' boss ever and he was enormous. but its a pretty boring fight.

my "second 1st c'thun kill" is my favorite boss kill ever. had killed him with another guild. when that one disbanded i went back an old guild with lots of friends irl and from wow and kind of led them from being stuck on sartura to clearing the instance. it was just fun because of the people it was with, and the c'thun fight is fun by itself on top of that.

Those are the easiest enemies in the whole game if you just spam the forward jump attack. The first time you encounter them in the hallway is the best place to grind for essence b/c they re-spawn as soon as you round the corner and there's a weapon shop right outside the gate. I always max out my weapons and potions there.

alma was the hardest boss that i can remember from ninja gaiden

it was partially because you couldn't save before fighting her and had to do some of the level again and again

and the animations she pummels you with are just brutal - you really feel like you are getting your ass kicked

plus god of war just restarts you where you died there is no real punishment

but i died one or two times at that thing if i remember

the worst is when you have to repeat a whole level to get to a boss - and then when you get the boss down to low health it uses crazy new attacks that you don't recognize to kill you

I've been frantically trying to get through God of War 2 before GTA4 comes out. The bosses in this game are all incredible. MGS3 too, I loved the final fight with "The Boss".

I loved Vael because of the fact that's such a short fight and the stress level is very high. Our first Nef kill is probably the most memorable, but more for what it meant to our guild's standing on our server than the actual fight itself.

lol i wonder how many times i got smeared up against the wall in those race levels

Top 10 Hardest Games To Beat According to IGN

#10 - Ninja Gaiden Black
#9 - Devil May Cry 3
#8 - Battletoads
#7 - R-Type
#6 - MDK2
#5 - Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts
#4 - F-Zero GX
#3 - Shinobi
#2 - Mega Man
#1 - Contra

It makes me feel good that I've beaten DMC3 and Shinobi on their hardest difficulty level. I never finished Battletoads though. I would add Ikaruga to that list. I could never finish it.

Contra #1? really? When I was seven the game was tough, but no it's painfully easy without the cheat code.

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/774/774897p2.html

The Contra series is known for separating the Spartans from the Persians. And while gamers will debate which game in the series is actually the hardest (a very strong case can be made for Contra Hard Corps), we went with the original since it's basically responsible for introducing cheat codes. Contra is virtually impossible to beat without entering the Konami code -- and even then, there's a good chance Mad Dog and Scorpion won't make it to their showdown with Red Falcon. As if one-hit kills weren't enough, your friends can even end you if they don't wait up while scaling that waterfall. Any way you slice it, Contra is hardcore.

I don't remember it being that hard and I'm pretty sure I beat Hard Corps on Genesis I believe.

while we're on the topic of hard ass games, anyone remember operation flashpoint?

basically a sim military game where one shot kills and you had to do really complex and dangerous missions, some of them were damn near impossible and many aspects had to go right for you to have a chance

Magus ain't shit. As long as you're level 25 and understand his defense-changing mechanic, he's cake.

Now for hard Japanese-RPG boss battles, Final Fantasy X put up some doozies:

At least as far as mandatory fights go.

hmm no mention of virtual fighter yet, I didn't really play the game and see the bosses but I know my friend got so pissed he broke the cd in half and threw it in the woods

I think he did that with diablo as well, cause he got killed about ten times in a row and kept losing all his shit, I guess it was on battlenet
