nothing changed about our QB rankings:

Evans (its his job to lose)
Wilson (def better in last drive despite missing two bad throws)
Burke (last second TD was lucky as hell, otherwise not bad but not enough to jump wilson)
Beck (overthrowing guys just like last year)

Jamelle Eugene looked great

Donald Bowen was looking good today as well.

Who was it that caught that loose punt and stood around for a while even though there was no whistle before someone finally yelled at him to run?

^^^ pretty spot on. I was impressed with Burke compared to the others. Wilson can zip out of the pocket though, his QB sneak for a TD on his last drive was pretty nice. I wasn't incredibly impressed with our punting.... and I hope Cjakowski is going to do the place kicking, Pierson didn't look good.

Too bad we couldn't get a look at Baker, Brown or Underwood. All the non-Eugene RBs were just "OK".

i guess i'll be most curious to see who starts at qb... seems like Evans may retain his position unless Glennon turns out to be PR incarnate.

So far I am sad with the news for next season. Alas, we still have spring/summer/fall practice before we face the Smallcocks

Yeah, it went Burke>Wilson>Beck for the Spring game but I liked what both Wilson and Burke did a lot. I'm not sure why the O-line seemed to be so solid when Burke was in and so horrible when Wilson was in though. On defense, Alan Michael Cash was a beast, he was just killing our O-line.

Wilsons pocket wasnt a pocket

most of his plays are designed rollouts with a mobile lineman on each side to lead block for him

and I think Leonard returned the punt that was just sitting there like a pot of gold, needless to say punt coverage in the 2nd half was MUCH better

you know it's bad when your qb has to roll out about 90% of the time because the oline can't block for shit. I'd definitely say burke looked the best but he looks so awkward when he's scrambling. I'm still surprised at some of the shit that he pulled.

^ ha, that was funny. he was just sitting there holding the ball and the ref starts running and he's like "omg, the ball's still alive" so he takes off.

The coaches purposely roll Wilson out because he's 5'10. When he's tucked in the pocket behind the oline he probably can't see the field for shit.

With that being said, Wilson does seem to have a tendency to roll backwards instead of stepping up and picking his spots in the pocket -- something that plagued Stone when he was a QB. I thought Burke did a pretty good job of sliding around the pocket when things started to fall apart.

He didn't play but he might've been on the sideline with Glennon. There were a few guys down on the sidelines whose faces I couldn't see.

wilson wasn't the only one rolling out. all of them were. everytime they tried to stay in the pocket they had to run for their lives.

^You saw the glass half full, I'll give the glass half empty take...

Looks like South Carolina is good at picking the QB off. Our team was among the last in the entire nation last season in turnover margin, so they'll probably get a few picks off us where we won't get any.

Yeah he looked really good in that respect, but he didnt see the 1st team defense quite like wilson did. It looked to me like Wilson was facing the 1st team defense every time he ran a drive and burke got tastes of both 1st and 2nd teams.

Anyways, the QB pecking order really wont be more concrete for awhile yet because Evans cant be evaluated. When he starts taking starter reps again is when any starter-hopefuls will need to be stepping their game up to challenge him.

^Wilson played against the 1st team defense in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th quarters, Burke played against the 1st team defense in the 2nd quarter and the 2nd team defense in the 4th quarter. Beck played against the 2nd team defense in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarters

They posted the last two drives of the game here: http://ncstate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=799286 and you can see the pocket totally breaking down on Wilson a few times. It was much worse in the first. But that last pass by Burke was pretty nice even if he was just chucking it.

Looking at those 2 videos..

when they do not roll wilson out of the pocket, he is a lot more poised standing in there than burke.
Burke has "happy feet" and is constantly bouncing around..

Wilson stands still and patient. (when they don't have him roll out)

all you are looking to get out of spring is practice and experience and hope no one gets hurt. Generally, both sides of the ball are going to look like shit but the offense is usually a bit behind the defense. All things considered, this was a pretty good spring for nc state.

People complained that the game was boring but that is good to me. Not a lot of sacks, not a lot of picks, consistent running, passing could have been better but didn't suck. The worst thing I saw was a missed field goal and that freak punt return for a TD. I mean, bad punt, bad bounce...not a good play. D-Line lots decent and O-Line will come around for any TOB team i.e Virginia and BC. I'm always optimistic but this team won't suck.

I think the telling stat is that there was only one turnover in the entire game, and that was on a trick play. I think we are about to see the Tom O'Brien discipline payoff and we don't throw away games b/c of stupid penalties and costly turnovers. Last season we were last in the ACC in turnover margin.

I like TOB a lot. I remember after the UNC game Mike Hogewood asked him what does winning 4 straight mean for this football team. TOB responded with "it means we need to win 5". Perfect response. Too bad we couldn't win that 5th game. Oh well it's in the past and we should be better this season. When a reporter asked him if he planned to put in new defenses TOB responded right away with "are you from Columbia" and got a laugh out of everyone there. The players seem confident and energetic in their interviews. Maybe it's b/c they know all the plays and aren't loosing valuable time trying to learn a new playbook.

oh well.
so does the lack of turnovers a good thing for our offense, or bad for our defense?

As a state fan I tend to lean towards the half empty point of view and say that it's bad for our defense.
