yeah, there are SO many unknowns in this game:
the QBs the new offensive coordinators how much will the Gerald Jones "G-Gun" formation be used the UCLA O-line just how good is the UT secondary and how bad is the front 7 the long ass travel and national spotlight for a lot of young/first time players
no idea how this game will turn out, my brain tells me UT by double digits, but my heart easily seems them losing outright and then doing some crazy shit like beat Florida 2 weeks later, they do shit like that ALL the time 8/28/2008 5:30:20 PM |

I have probably been to 40 games at the Rose Bowl, after living their most of my life in LA and doing my grad work at UCLA....The one thing I can absolutely guarantee is that the UT fans will be louder than the collective UCLA fans, esp. if UT gets a quick TD. Imagine a game at CF without any students or a band, just a bunch of old farts sitting on their hands. That's the atmosphere Monday night, unfortunately. Students don't start for another month and 1/4 of the band will be there. There will be 60,000 people max in a 92,000 stadium, probably 20,000 UT fans. 8/29/2008 4:59:57 PM |

Quote : | "And with that introduction here are my four keys for Tennessee to leave Pasadena, Calif., 1-0 to start the season.
1. Punch back fast - A year ago, Tennessee hit the field at Cal and nearly got knocked out in the first half. The Vols had the game tied at 14-14 at the end of the first quarter, but anyone in attendance knew that Tennessee was in trouble and could not match Cal's intensity. With a new head coach and the anticipation of the start of the Rick Neuheisel era, the Bruins will be ready emotionally at the opening kick and it's key that Tennessee doesn't wait till the second half to try and match that intensity.
2. Attack, attack, attack - Dave Clawson will try to put pressure on the UCLA defense with multiple formations and personnel groupings, especially in the first couple of drives. But the attack really must come on the other side of the ball. With UCLA's concerns on the offensive line, and a new quarterback, John Chavis, who always is aggressive, can't allow the Bruin offense to get comfortable and find a rhythm, especially early, to gain confidence. What Norm Chow does on offense is unknown, although I would expect some early screens, but Chavis' defense must make UCLA uncomfortable and play faster than they want to play.
3. Win the kicking game - We all saw in the 1997 trip to UCLA what can happen when the kicking game goes bad, as it did with David Leaverton. Punter Chad Cunningham's heart rate will be in overdrive as he gets his second career start and finds himself under plenty of pressure. If Tennessee is going to reach its potential this season the Vols must be outstanding on special teams. Athletically there is no reason that they should not be good in all facets of the kicking game. They must show that Monday night in the Rose Bowl.
4. Play your game - There has been plenty of chatter about Jonathan Crompton for the last 9 months. After impatiently, at times, waiting his turn, it's Crompton's show Monday night. Crompton is not going to play perfect. He will make mistakes and might even throw an interception. He has to quickly forget the bad and he must play within himself. Crompton has all the tools. He physically can do everything that a quarterback needs to do in this offense. What he can't do is try and do too much. Crompton must play his game, which is being aggressive, but he must value the football and understand that every play is not a touchdown play. If he does that then this offense will find itself successful at the end of the night. " |
I am getting more and more worried about this game... everyone is saying that UCLA doesnt have a chance now (much like they did for Bama against Clemson) and its when teams get that "us against the world" mentality that they pull of upsets...9/1/2008 1:36:26 PM |

(Well, southern California, whatever.)
Can't wait to watch a good team play since my adopted second football team, NC State, apparently is fucking awful again this year.

god, so worried about this game, I think Neuheisel and Chow are going to throw out all the stops, they are basically in a no-lose situation, if they win, great, if they lose then they can put it on the injuries
