I found it on careerbuilder.com. It was a posting by a recruiter. I contacted him and he got the process going with the company. 8/4/2008 8:32:15 AM |

The good thing about going through a recruiter is that they have an incentive to stay in contact with the business. I've never used one before but the process went smoothly as far as I could tell and fairly quick. 8/4/2008 8:56:00 AM |

Well, I sent my info to a recruiter the week before the 4th of July, and he said there were 4 companies he was going to contact, and I haven't heard a peep about them
I've contacted him a few times, but he rarely gets back with me
My experience with recruiters has not been favorable 8/4/2008 8:59:42 AM |

That sucks. When I updated my Monster account for the first time since my senior year of college, alot of them started calling. I talked to most of em and I would find out I didn't like the job or I wasn't a suitable candidate. Then I had this one guy almost stalk me. The last straw was he called me at work and told him to never call me again. So I've had a few bad experiences myself. I guess I just got lucky with this one. 8/4/2008 9:07:54 AM |

you can learn Pro/E pretty fast. IMO they're really wanting to see experience in some form of a solid modeling program and solidworks is at least one everyone pretty much knows. i flip back and forth between pro/e, cativa and solidworks constantly..8/4/2008 9:10:23 AM |

Drovkin, all I'm getting are bites from recruiters. I don't seem to be getting anywhere with them, and I'm sitting here jobless. I'm thinking about getting a part time job at an auto shop or something to pass the time and make a little money until the career fair in September. 8/12/2008 5:58:12 PM |

So I've basically got two weeks to find something

Interestingly enough, I'm sitting here at my new job (which I like a lot, by the way), and I have at least two or three emails a day from recruiters for jobs around the country (and every now and then there will be a couple in the Triangle Area) and I'm still getting calls (a lot of them from local recruiters and even more from others).
But I like this company just fine. And the money is right. So here I stay, as long as they like what they get from me (so far, so good, knock on wood). 8/19/2008 4:08:33 PM |

Try http://www.fordsearch.com b/c there's one engineering position there. I used this recruiter and he really helped me all the way through. He practically set up the interview and always checked up with the company on how my application is going and always kept me updated.

I'm getting really tired of the "we're wanting someone with more experience" BS.
Basically if I haven't been working for over 8 years, no one wants to sit down with me.
This is pretty depressing honestly, I wish I would have never moved to greensboro. 9/12/2008 7:46:19 AM |

I've been applying to jobs for about a month or so now. Most companies I never hear back from. One company, Firestone, recently sent me something back. Along the lines of "due our current economic situation we have decided not to fill this position". Looks like a lot of companies are having hiring freezes/layoffs from what i hear. 9/29/2008 6:57:15 PM |

It's annoying when you're trying to get someone hired to join your team. You know you need a recent college grad but management insists on putting 5-10 years masters preferred on the job listing because they know those people are out there.10/3/2008 8:21:04 AM |

MOLDABILITY. A lot easier to indoctrinate a fresh grad as opposed to somebody who's been work-hardened, if you will. har har har.
Add to that, the fresh grads come with better computer experience and are cheaper in terms of salary and benefits. 10/3/2008 11:25:51 AM |

I'm going to bump this because I'm looking for a structural engineering or civil engineering job right now and thought I'd bug the wolfweb for leads. I have one or two leads, but obviously in this sort of economy you need more than one or two leads to get yourself a job.
As far as experience, I have four internships, passed the FE (or you can call me an EIT now, whatever suits you), and concentrated in structures while at NCSU getting my BS in Civil Engineering. It's looking more and more like I might have to relocate, so I might be willing to do that. I'd love to work with commercial or residential structures, though I know that's pretty much not happening right now.
Anybody have any leads? Any help would be appreciated.
And yes, I'm looking at monster.com and craigslist and haven't really found anything so far. 12/3/2008 9:31:31 PM |

There is an entry level Civil/Construction Engineering position (not structural based...but you could always move into that side of the civil/arch/structural department once you got your foot in the door) listed for Greenville, SC for Fluor. http://www.fluor.com/careers and then the college section. Don't think we have much else atm though that relates to you... 12/3/2008 10:44:21 PM |

based on the current job market how hard would it be to find a Mechanical Engineering job in the area? 12/5/2008 1:32:04 AM |
d7freestyler Sup, Brahms 23935 Posts user info edit post |
i'd say it's pretty tough.
i just got a job recently, but i had a recommendation, contacts and 2.5 years of experience. the market is obviously down, but some companies are looking to hire now before the end of the year. conversely, most companies will want to hold out until the beginning of the year for budget reasons.
overall though, if you are qualified i think there are jobs to be had. maybe not as many as a year ago, but jobs nonetheless. also, working with recruiters helps. just don't let them push you around as far as pay rates and benefits go... all that stuff is negotiable. 12/5/2008 1:52:43 AM |

Yeah, from what I've seen if you've got 2-5 years experience right now you have a decent shot at finding a job somewhere, and if you have 6-10 or more there's very likely somebody out there who wants to hire you. Entry level? Yeah... I'm kind of sitting high and dry here right now. 4 internships aren't quite cutting it it doesn't seem. Though I expected Civil/Structural engineering jobs to be scarce right now because of the whole credit crunch, oh fuck we're all going to die, recession thing anyway.
I decided to be more open to relocating and have started bugging companies with listings in places I could stomach moving to right now. 12/5/2008 11:57:13 PM |
