http://www3.thestar.com/static/PDF/080530_nhl_tickets_revenue.pdf

According to this, Carolina was 19th in 2006 and 22nd in 2007 in ticket revenue, averaging $700,000 per game. That seems acceptable to me I guess.

oh lookie here:

Quote :
"Cam Ward and the Special Olympics of North Carolina held a press conference in the Hurricanes' locker room today as Ward handed over a giant novelty check representing the $12,540 he raised through his "Cam's Champs" program. (More than half, almost $7,000, came directly out of Ward's pocket.)

Interestingly, the locker room looks pretty much like it did when the season ended in April, with one exception: Bret Hedican's nameplate is gone from above his locker. The others all remain."

hedican's theme song can be "island in the sun"

a) he's moving to california
b) the backing vocals during the verses are "hip hip"

So, I have to say that this whole song ordeal is kind of iffy for us. I did a little research, and decided to take it to a higher power to see what happens. It is all in this email I sent to Mr. DeCock.

Heres the deal. My buds and I worship the 'Lets Go Canes' song, we always thought it was so goofy and original. However, today I saw a youtube video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ELgYP6srrM,

that made me shudder. After a bit of research, I found out that this song, "Lets Go Pens", was written by Roger Wood, a Pittsburgh man who wrote a very similar song for the Steelers during their Super Bowl run. This website:

http://homepage.mac.com/imagineam/steelersfightsong/thesmash.htm

claims that the 'Lets Go Pens' song was written this year for the current team, and it also charges 5 bucks for a download. Here is an article about Wood where he talks about writing his football song:
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/s_418452.html .

This is definitely the same song, so something doesn't jive. I tried emailing CanesVision, but could not use the online email form from the RBC Center, and also could not locate an email address for Pete Soto, who I feel would have an answer for this. I just wanted to know where our song came from, and who ripped off who, because it would be terrible if this guy is charging up 5 bucks per download of a song he had no creative hand in. Maybe, just maybe the hockey news in Raleigh is slow enough right now that this could be investigated...

Thanks, sorry if this is a waste of your time but it definitely struck a chord with me

From Mr. Soto:

Gentlemen,

Here's the deal with Let's Go Canes. When I came to the team in 1999 the
song was already part of the organization. It contained lyrics with specific
players such as Keith Pirmeau. I was told at the time that the people who
created the song for us where indeed from Pittsburgh.

I do not believe that the Let's Go Pens song was created at the time but
have heard it in the time since 1999. It's a similar situation that I had in
Miami when I worked with the Dolphins - their touchdown song is a tradition
and the Houston Oilers had the exact same TD song with Houston Oilers
replacing the Miami Dolphins.

So to wit, what came first? The Canes or the Pens? From my understanding we
came first and we have also made it more of our team signature than the
Pens. I re-wrote the lyrics in 1999 to fit our new dynamics with the new
building and no Primeau-donna.

Hope that answers your question.

Pete

One thing I have noticed about hockey sports guys, they usually respond to you. I have emailed Scott Cullen at TSN a few times and gotten responses every time in less than a day. If you have a good question, they will usually get back to you.

I'm ready for some more classic Chuck Kaiton.

[Chuck Kaiton]

it's whipped around the point to joe corvo, down to staal in the crease, back out to matt cullen, he shoots and SCORES, oh he scores. Marian Gaborik has stolen the puck and scored the wild lead 1-0 on a shorthanded tally at 7:12 of the 1st period.

in his defense, hockey is probably the hardest sport to do on the radio because of its pace. a sport like baseball, the announcer has plenty of time to set the scene and paint a picture for the listener. which is why baseball on the radio can be well-done and a treat. listening to a hockey game doesn't have those advantages. no matter how good a hockey radio announcer is, you still have no idea what the hell is going on with no visuals to go by.

Eaves should be a steal, especially in the lineup we have. Ruutu needs to sign quickly. We desperately need some D, though.

"Anton Babchuk (Carolina Hurricanes) is currently evaluating his options, one of which is to return to North America and accept an offer from the Carolina Hurricanes. Another option for Anton is to remain in Russia and re-sign with HC Avangard (Omsk), which has given him a qualifying offer to remain with the club. While Babchuk did not completely fulfill the expectations placed on him this past season in the Super League (Russia 1), he did deliver a strong season, thus making his return to the NHL likely, though it may not be with the Hurricanes if they trade his rights ."

It's time for Wesley to retire and allow the team to move forward. This should free up a good share of money that can be spent suring up the defense and adding offensive defensemen that we desperately need.

We'll miss ya Glen.

Not totally true. He was a good offensive force in Boston, and even had a 58 point season. It was a different story though once he went to Hartford.
