I was at the place where this is gonna be earlier today and LOL. It's going to be total chaos. The Obama people there also told me that have given out 3,000 tickets.

I'm on the fence about heading out there or not. It almost seems like more trouble than it's worth. If the doors open at 1, what time do you think they'll go on? There's no way in hell I'm going to chapel hill at 10 in the morning. I was thinking about maybe rolling out there around 1:30. What's everyone else doing?

^ I may be wrong on this, but I believe I read somewhere that Arcade Fire won't go on until after 3 pm.

Gates open at 1, show starts after 2 pm w/ Superchunk up first and then Arcade Fire. I'm sure there will be a bunch of political bullshit in between.

By the time I leave the office at 7:30 tonight, I will have billed 40 fucking hours in 4 days. I plan on coming in early tomorrow, doing a bit of work and then heading out to Chapel Hill around 11:00. I'm more concerned about the parking than the line at this point.

I think we are going to try to park near the Armadillo Grill at 11:30 and bring some food over. Hopefully, that will be early enough. I'm taking a vacation day, so it would suck to get turned away. I have no idea what to expect.

Greensboro fucking rocked. I'm so glad we went today, so now we won't be upset if we are a mile from the stage tomorrow. We got there at 1 when the gates opened and they were still giving away tickets; we were close to the stage in the center. Superchunk was great, and Arcade Fire was of course amazing. I have a hell of a time trying to remember setlists, but I'm fairly sure this was it:

Keep the Car Running
Heroes (David Bowie cover)
Intervention
No Cars Go
Haiti
Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)
Antichrist Television Blues
Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)
Rebellion (Lies)
--------------------
Wake Up

Got some pretty great photos I think. Will put them up on Flickr shortly.

just got back from carrboro. i'm SO BURNED ouch. but other than that...awesomeness. i have two videos not the BEST quality ever but still pretty good. i can post them later. no cars go and haiti. don't know if i saw any of you bitches out there but i'm sure you were in the crowd somewhere.

oh yea my dumbass camera died halfway through (didn't charge it, i'm a retard) or else i would have taken videos of rebellion and wake up. wake up was awesome. but like a large % of the crowd kinda looked like they had no clue what was going on....it definitely wasn't as insane as i thought it would be (the crowd i mean)

that was pretty sweet. (i'm judging it both in terms of quality of the concert, but also voter turn out. i've been campaigning at polling stations in durham, chapel hill, and carrboro, and this was one of the biggest turnouts yet for early voting, and by far the largest carrboro has had)

stuck at work all day

so would everyone say there was a significant portion of the crowd that was more interested in obama than the bands?

win butler went right between me and screentest. it was shocking how tall he is.

superchunk was spot on. both bands did an acceptable amount of rallying and had exciting sets. arcade fire's setlist was a compilation of my favorites.

We were much farther back for this one than Greensboro, so my pictures aren't as nice, but there they are nonetheless http://flickr.com/photos/jhawkins/sets/72157604853358295/

WOW

pros:
Arcade motherfucking Fire
AWESOME setting
nice weather
near perfect setlist

cons:
being burnt to a crisp
the way they handled the lines (we got there around noon and got a decent spot in front of the main entrance thinking we'd get in quickly. they opened a second entrance at the back of the line that went WAY faster than the original line)

i'm fucking exhausted

pictures to come soon

^ hello see my post about it. i said the crowd was not as insane as i imagined. like a lot of them looked like they had no idea what is going on. anyway i put my very AWESOME quality videos (that is sarcasm) on youtube. maybe i can link them to you

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWBbKnPMSJs that is a video of haiti (part of it)

and

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qu63RMDmmGo no cars go

i wanted to take more but my camera died. and they aren't the best because i am short and i was trying to rock whilst videoing. but they sound good, i think. and captured the moment well???

That, and the fact that it had Obama attached to it. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a lot of people there who thought Obama would be there. Plus, it was in walking distance; I saw a lot of moms and kids there.

In contrast, the Greensboro show didn't have near as many people, but it seemed to be pretty much all young people who were there because they loved the bands.

i do think the teacher workday had something to do with it

there were a ton of high schoolers there

some of them tried to lie to get a good spot in line by saying they were volunteers

they quickly got busted and were asked to leave
