I have a friend who did make a proton pack, and it looks and sounds exactly like the proton pack from the old Ghostbusters.

Kristen Wiig has her moments, she's a funny person, I'll give you that, and I honestly did like Bridesmaids, but her and especially Melissa McCarthy just aren't in the same league as Bill Murray. Melissa McCarthy plays the exact same character in everything I've seen her in. Loud/obnoxious/slapstick sidekick who falls over a lot and makes obscene/shock factor jokes. I just can't see them making the same kind of delivery that Bill Murray has

Except that nobody is talking about whether this movie is going to make money (except for you, I guess). Just because it has the ghostbuster name attached to it means its going to probably do well...then you have the dolts that watch whatever crapy McCarthy is in.

You mention "culturally equivalent" and "wattage", but they aren't the same thing. Murray was a great actor/comedian back then (and of course, still is), while McCarthy is good at her fat girl/eccentric-schtick...and that's it.

I love Wiig and McKinnon (although don't know how McKinnon will fare in a big movie). But Jones is horrible and I'm sure she can ruin a movie. McCarthy also has her moments in movies where she's a supporting actress, but watching her for a whole film is torture.
