I'm working on finishing reading a book for a group oral presentation tomorrow. I also have a paper rough draft due in the same class, and I still have 11 pages to go on my 491t final paper. This is the most stressful time of the year, but at the same time it is the most exciting time of the year. There are a lot of people who don't make it to their senior year and I have met plenty of people who regret not going to college. Somewhere out there someone is wishing that they were stressing over their final test, or paper right now. Hopefully everything goes ok, so that I can graduate in the fall.

^Really? When I took 479 he said on the first day, "I don't believe in tests because you don't learn anything. I don't believe in textbooks because you don't read them and they cost too much." Then we watched lots of videos, wrote a paper on the Kenyan Crisis, wrote a book review, did a easy mid-term paper explaining what we learned, and gave an oral presentation on our final paper. It's one of the easiest classes I have ever taken.

I didnt say it wasnt easy...just that I dont care for how it is organized. I did not find that I learned as much in a coherent fashion. Most of what i learned was from the other students presentations. While that was fun and interesting I was hoping for Kalinga to bring more of a unique perspective to the class considering his origins. I would have appreciated him giving a more overall history of africa. or perhaps just picking a few countries and doing studies of them as examples of african nations.

^True! I sort of did wish he would have given us a general textbook to read, so we would have gotten a better overall view of Africa. He does teach a 200 level class called History of West Africa. Those classes tend to give a better overall view of an area, or time period. A lot of 400 level classes seem to focus a lot on primary sources and not so much on an overview of the topic.

^ unfortunately...i usually test quite well...i was pretty mad when my HI 420 final was changed to a take home paper. that means hours of procrastinating and typing instead of a 50 minute test for no appreciable change in grade...all because a bunch of idiots messed up on the midterm which was only like 10 ID questions. buncha noobs.

^^I don't test well. I am much better at writing papers. I did good in 479 because 55% of the grade was on a paper unlike in 404 where 60% of the grade was on closed book tests. Even the teacher who told me my essay was poorly written still gave me a C. They aren't that nice when it comes to test grades.
