Problem is when you do what you AGREED to, and then they bitch about you not doing enough. Or lie to you about funding. And expect you to spend 60+ hours a week in the lab (which I would if I could, just annoys me that you have to say you are part time so they can screw out out of a lot of things full time employees get). And complain about taking too much time off for medical appointments. And don't listen to a word you say.

Even people from other departments are amazed when they find out what really goes on.

^^^ You just keep showing up at your dentist regularly and they'll tell you when they need replacing based on its appearance.

I have one tooth where each amalgam filling (I'm on my second) has lasted about 4-5 years, and the composite filling fell completely apart in a few months (filling a huge hole, half the tooth is missing). I need to set up an appointment to have a porcelain onlay put in its place.

It depends on how big the cavity is, what tooth the cavity is on, and how good your dentist is. I have a decent dentist, but it was probably a bad idea to just use a filling on this tooth to begin with. More $$$ and resources were spent using those than just grinding the tooth down to a stump and gluing something else in its place.

I would think any rational human being without health insurance would personally seek this information. Even if you thought it didn't exist, why wouldn't you seek out your own dental insurance independent of the university? If you sincerely cared you would have done this.
