lol i hate it when people like that get tickets. it's like when people never go to a game all year and then get tickets to the carolina game.

then there was the couple that came to the show just to grope each other and make out and block everybody's view with their big heads

finally have found some internet...

first off, for hotel lights, the crowd was absolutely the rudest crowd i have ever been around

there were times i could barely hear darren because there were so many people talking. during the 3rd song, my aunt turned around to the people behind us and said, "do you have any idea how rude you are right now? you're not at a fucking bar, if you want to talk, go outside". that shut them up

there were WAY too many people there who either knew absolutely nothing about ben folds five or were expecting a ben folds solo show. those same people behind us had never heard of ben folds five before. all this did was reinforce my hatred for carolina

WITH THAT SAID,

holy

fucking

jesus

absolutely phenomenal. the true ben folds five fans came out and they came out LOUD. song for the dumped was the highlight for me as i lost my voice screaming the words i've never gotten so many chills while watching a band

That is just insane.

The guy next to me spent 3 songs of the Ben Folds Five set talking on the phone about football until my Dad told him to either hang up. My dad isn't really an imposing figure, but the dude cowered and hung up

my sentiments exactly.

I couldn't believe how rude people were being. I had floor seats and I think mostly UNC students were on the floor. I could hardly hear Darren sing b/c of the people around me.

My fiance pointed out last night that Ben Folds looks like Dana Carvey

I think if Darren had his band backing him instead of just Alan Weatherhead backing him up he would have been better off. But yeah - it was pretty rude for those Carolina students to talk like nothing was going on.

The show of course rocked. I lost my voice as well from singing along. Ben's response to the moron who yelled "Rock this Bitch" was pretty funny as well as the bit about "research."

I was sitting next to this group of 10 or so Carolina students - I looked over during the second set of songs and they were lost. So were the group of students who were in the row in front of me.

I figure they planned to play "Battle of Who Could Care Less" but hey still glad I yelled it out.

Also did anybody see the chicks running around in dresses? They were dressed up like it was a prom...just very strange.

absolute perfection

a second encore would have just spoiled the entire experience

there was so much energy and enthusiasm on the stage and you can tell they totally enjoyed playing again

You've pinpointed why Ben Folds Five, on stage and on record, is eleventy billion times better than Ben Folds.

i was up on balcony left and the people beside and around me seemed to know what was up, and know the music. singing along, but not obnoxiously. probably like me and just lucky to get a ticket, while there were 100s of unc students there because it was the cool thing to do.

oh well, still fucking amazing.

Cameras they used were too slow to pick up a lot of the movements. So awesome though.

I don't get (well I do) a lot of the blind UNC student hate.. but I'm surprised you don't understand why they might not "get" ben folds five the way you do.

So far as I can figure, these kids are at least HS class of 2005 or later. Rocking the Suburbs (the last real mainstream ben folds album) came out in 2001 when they were what, 14? To expect these students to really respect Ben Folds and BF5 is kind of silly. on top of all of that, bf5 was playing their last album, which was NOT very radio-friendly even to those of us who were teenagers at the time it came out. I think the only song I remember hearing on the radio was army, and not very much (of course since I am a fan I know the album)....

the concept of this performance was to play their album front to back, and they did. the unc students that were there--for the most part--were a bunch of kids who had never been a part of the whole ben folds/ben folds five experience due to their age. the same would have been true if they were ncsu kids, ecu kids, unc-w kids, app kids, etc.

Though, to be disrespectful is another thing, but once again, do you think it'd be different if it wasn't at UNC? turn your blinders off!

Hell, I'm 24 and I still think my older sister has a more mature understanding of their music because it was mainstream during her high school/college years. That is, emotionally speaking, it ought to hit home for her more.

Regardless, I think I'm a bigger fan than her.

probably the same reason they go to the unc/ncsu game even though they don't give a fuck about football... it's the thing to do man!
