ECU w/ the big win over Tulane by the hair on their asses. 2nd game we've had to come from behind. After watchin Clemson dismantle state, i think it would take a complete and utter offensive/defensive meltdown for ecu to lose. It'll take a little of the luster off the rivalry

#5 with 12 BCS wins since 1998 but that was before the West Virginia game. If we get by State and UVA we'll have 15 & more BCS wins than any of the other mid majors.

Georgia vs. GT is a rivalry.


NCSU vs. ECU is NOT a rivalry. To me, it is just another game on the schedule, no more important or less important than last week or next week.

its an in-state rivalry. Not really sure how anyone can dispute that. It's not a nationally recognized rivalry on the scale of the others you just mentioned, but it's still a rivalry.

But who the fuck really cares anyway? Rivalry or not, its still a game people in NC get excited about. Either because they want to talk shit after they pound the other team, or after they play spoiler. It goes both ways

I'd say State's rivals are UNC and Wake...FSU was kind of a rival when Amato was here, but it doesn't feel like it as much anymore...maybe we'll develop a rivalry with BC...you could say ECU is a rival of State, but not as big since its non conference

They are 90 miles down the road from us, beat us in basketball last season, are competitive with us in baseball..and for once in a LONG while nationally ranked...so give 'em some credit.

^^no, it's because we have similar fan-bases (whether state fans choose to admit that or not), and because of proximity and football tradition. Traditionally, State and ECU probably care the most about football of the schools in NC. I don't really see why it matters. I also don't see why state fans have such a hard time admitting that they enjoy the game or that they even CARE about the game. i think that's the lamest part. I mean, ECU is fucking top 20 and you're telling me you don't care? Because it's not a rivalry or whatever? That's just stupid

do you know what it's like to watch state football? i go to every game just hoping we don't get embarrassed.

if we win this game, it's dodging a bullet. it's not beating up your little brother to show him who's boss, it's not ruining ecu's perfect season, it's dodging a loss to a cusa team that represents a school that was no one's first choice. it's always dodging a bullet. ecu's usually good enough for the game to be scary, and losing to a non bcs team is always embarrassing.

that's it, for me anyway. don't take it personally, i don't consider carolina a "rivalry" either, b/c it's not. it's totally one sided on our part, at least anymore.

a rivalry is a game where if you totally tank a season, you can say 'w/e, at least we beat --'. never, ever, will you hear a state fan say 'w/e, at least we beat ecu'. you'll hear them say that about carolina, but you will never hear carolina say it about state. i guess you could call it an empathy game, since we both know what it's like to be in a onesided game like that, but by definition, i would not call it a "rivalry game".

i hesitate to use that word about anything really, b/c it's so grossly overused for the sake of tv ratings, but that's a tangent.

so in a real rivalry, let's say Michigan and tOSU, if Michigan goes 1-11 with a win over tOSU then they'll be okay with that?

I'd say usually, as long as we win against UNC, Duke (if we're lucky enough to play them), and ECU then it's a good year, a loss against any of them is not something I like, and would pretty much ruin the season. 2 years ago was terrible because we lost to both ECU and UNC, basically making State the worst team in the state and being a joke. If we had won one then yes, I'd take UNC first, but winning both of those games and a 5-7 season wouldn't be all that bad (see last year)

After college i moved to Raleigh and as a result i've met alot of wolfpack alums and some current students. It's pretty weak to hear a few on this board proclaim things like " WE don't look forward to this game, it's just another one" or "WE don't consider ECU our rivals". They use "WE" as if they are speaking on behalf of the fanbase and it's laughable. Don't get me wrong, everyone's entitled to their own opinion but It's dumb because others are slapping them on the back of the heads and telling them that it IS a rilvalry & to get over themselves.

There is a very small handful of my wolfpack friends (mostly girls) that don't give a hoot about this game on Saturday. Everyone else is foaming at the mouth. Their friends and family are coming into town for the game too. The ones that don't have tickets are scrambling to find tickets. I'm guessing CF will be packed. One could make the arguement that it will be to make a good showing for ESPN but i haven't talked to anyone that even mentioned it.

I think what bothers the dellusional fans is the school of thinking that East Carolina and NC State are not on a level plane as far as the institution goes thus making a "rivalry" seem beneath them. we all know ECU is much smaller, receives far less funding, competes in smaller conference etc. etc. NCState isn't this storied football program or a national power to be reckoned with. Neither is ECU. Even with Rivers have you finished higher than .500 in the ACC? Don't think so if i remember correctly.

Get over it already. You are the same guys that boast they made $20K more than they actually did last year or that they got busy with Jennifer from the bar when nothing actually happened. Only foolin yourselves

The fact is, ECU has a better football team than State this year, thus, it would be a great win for State, and a nationally recognized one at that, given ECU's ranking and first two wins.
