Carmelo scores 33 points..............in the 3rd quarter.

Ties Gervin for the most ever in a quarter (with DT coming in 2nd with 32). You would think Wilt would have the record, but the most he ever posted was 31 in that 100-pt game.

Pretty balanced quarter too. 4 threes, an array of jump shots and drive to the baskets...mixed in with a couple free throws.

And Lebron and the Cavs win their 10th straight. Looking like they might actually have a decent chance against the Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals and the Lakers in the Finals if they can make it there. Lebron is just a man among boys. He is to the backcourt (and SF position) as Shaq was to the frontcourt when he came into the league. Defenders are just completely overmatched.

Carmelo's is more impressive because he just got his in the flow of the game; he got on fire and rode the streak out in epic NBA JAM fashion.

Gervin's 33 point quarter and Thompson's 32 pointer both came on the last day of the season when they were vying for the scoring title, so they were surely taking more shots than they normally would.

Also, I'm pissed since I had Melo on my bench due to the Nuggets 2 game week.

^What Fantasy League are you in? My Yahoo! league lets us change the lineups daily.

That blows.

I've done weekly and daily and have come to prefer weekly because you don't have to check every day

I usually check most days anyway, but sometimes I'll be busy and forget about it for a few days

It works better for roto...with H2H you pretty much need daily chances to maximize matchups

It sucks when you have to bench your studs on short weeks, but I don't like having to go in every day and change my lineups

This way, you just set them once a week and have to deal with strategic decisions based on game played for the 7 day period

Like Jason Terry for 3 games, or Ronnie Brewer for 4 ?

The Cavs are WHITE HOT!

I am ready to see a matchup between these cavs and the lakers or celtics.

Lakers/ Celtics on Christmas will be the first of these

Cavs/ Celtics on Jan 9th

this year reminds me of the 80s Lakers/ Celtics battling it out while a young superstar prepares to take the throne

With my day-to-day...you can do it where you can change your line-up for the whole week (although I'm usually too lazy to do that)...so you don't have to keep switching the lineups everyday. It's convenient.

I'm trying to think of a team in the West that could possibly give the Lakers some trouble.

I think if the Jazz can get healthy (they've been doing pretty well without Boozer), then they could take the Lakers deep into a series. And if the Hornets could get their shit together...maybe they could give LA a scare. Other than that, the Lakers should get to the NBA finals pretty well rested.

Anybody see the piece with John Thompson about Derek Coleman and his business work and giving back to his old neighborhood in Detroit? It was really good. GG Derek Coleman.

They also reenacted the shoe throwing incident with Chris Webber and Barkley, Barkley being unaware and the target. It was pretty damn funny.

You can see clips of both here, http://www.nba.com/video/ .

Dwayne Wade is kinda the man:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3792612

Quote :
"MIAMI -- When Dwyane Wade heard the plight of a South Florida woman whose nephew accidentally burned down her home -- and ruined all the family's possessions -- the Miami Heat star knew he had to do something.

So he helped the family move into a new home, just in time for Christmas.

Wade presented Dawn Smith with the ultimate Christmas gift on Wednesday -- the keys to a her new house, along with some furnishings, clothing and gifts to make sure her family has a joyous holiday, something that didn't seem likely just a few weeks ago.

His Wade's World foundation will make some payments on the home, while Smith and her family get back on their feet.

"That's what I try to teach my kids," said Wade, whose foundation has hosted several charity events this holiday season, mostly for needy children. "It's not about what you're going to receive -- it's what you can give to others from what you've received."

Smith couldn't hold back happy sobs when she saw the home for the first time.

"A big-time relief," Smith said, clearly overcome by emotion. "Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Oh, God, thank you so much."

The NBA's leading scorer this season had a simple message: "Hopefully, you'll like it."

Wade's other holiday events this year included a party for 350 children on Monday, and hosting 100 kids at Tuesday night's Heat game against the Golden State Warriors. He also donated $10,000 to each of three children's organizations, but said he was particularly touched by being able to assist the Smith family.

"We can help this family have a new beginning," Wade said."

I'm going to get blasted for this, but....

I think Wade has just as good an argument for MVP this year as Lebron does. The guy is having a phenomenal season.

I think it is down to 4 players

Lebron
Wade
Kobe
CP3

one of those will emerge as the MVP this season

I don't think Kobe will heavy in the MVP talks this year. He's just not doing as much as he use to (because he doesn't have to of course).

I think it's a two-man race right now b/w Wade and Lebron. Paul can crack that top two if the Hornets have a better second half of the season and get closer to the Lakers in the standings. You also might see Howard's name up there if the Magic continue their run and he becomes a little more dominant on the scoring end.

I would say Kobe and CP3 are definitely in the race

D-wade 28.5 pts 7.2 asts 5 rebs 38 mins record: 25-19

Kobe 26.6 pts 5.2 asts 5.6 rebs 36.5 mins record: 35-9

Lebron 27.9 pts 7 asts 7.5 rebs 37.5 mins record: 35-8

CP3 21.1 pts 11.1 asts 5.4 rebs 37.8 mins record: 28-14

But my vote so far would be Lebron
