i prefer the latest 6.1 rom with the manila today plugin over the 6.5 rom but i haven't played with the 6.5 rom extensively

do most of you guys still download packed roms (just the .nbh file basically) or build your own - i haven't downloaded a packed rom in probably a year and a half or so but they are easier to deal with i guess but it seems like you always get stuck with something you don't want or aren't able to include things you do want

just go to a service center and have an advanced exchange done on your mogul assuming you have esrp/tep or are still under warranty. they're currently being replaced with touch pros. rec/ref of course, but free is free.

I've got an alltel HTC 6800 and my biggest gripe used to be that it didn't have GPS, so I unlocked it with some stuff from PPCGeeks, and it worked fine (but sluggish). When 6.1 came out, I updated the ROM and had non-hacked GPS. Only problem being that I had to prime the GPS by opening Alltel Nav, close it and then use Google or Live Search.

Anyway, its been working fine up until last week and now I can't connect to any satellites. Has this happened to any other Alltel people? Has Verizon screwed me in the switch?

Also, I've seen the thread on PPCGeeks to fix your GPS to not need the "primer" but last time with the hacked GPS the phone was sluggish and I lost a lot of batter life. I'd rather have an official ROM.

you shouldn't have to prime the 6800's gps since sometime late '07 - do you have the latest alltel rom at least - if not there are tons of others out there to use but i recommend just using ppckitchen.org

even when you did have to prime the gps - you never had to for google maps

I've got ROM: 3.52.671.9, its the most recent one on the Alltel Software site. And I've never had any problems with the GPS before last week.

I guess my big question is that if anyone else is using this ROM have they noticed the same problem? I didn't know if since Alltel and Verizon are finishing the merger this week, if the GPS support has gone away

GPS satellites are managed by the goverment - the merger wouldn't effect them in any way possible

I think I read something a while back about alltel stores being branded verizon if there weren't any verizon stores near it, otherwise it'd be closed. Calls from Alltel to Verizon should be free now also. Currently they're moving the account information to verizon's website and by July 13th alltel customers will be able to sign onto My Verizon using their 10 digit cell phone number and their current alltel.com password.

i haven't been satisfied with my touch pro. the internet browsing is pretty decent (once i downloaded skyfire), but the rest is iffy. The phone part doesn't impress me and the buttons are really slow (they lag a lot). The battery life is horrendous. I'll keep it until I'm eligible for a new phone, but that's it.

The 1 good thing about it is the "internet sharing" part. I can pretty much use my laptop anywhere and get internet on it, and the speed is impressive for using a cell phone as a modem.

So the screen just died (again!) on my Touch Pro. The same way the last one died (my first Pro lasted about 2 months, this one has made it 6 or so). This is after my Mogul only lasted a little over a year before the buttons on the keyboard began to not work. HTC quality, or lack thereof, is seriously starting to piss me off. I don't know how I keep killing the damn things.

The million dollar question is when Sprint is going to get the Pro 2. The way I got my Pro in the first place was as a no-cost replacement for my messed-up Mogul, I wonder if I could pull the same trick again? Probably not...seeing as how it's not out already, and they'll probably have reserve stocks of the Pro for a while, and without the touch screen really all I can do is make calls...oh well.

^^read his thread on ppcgeeks. there's theme addons and such to make it more attractive. I just installed MightyRom6 but I don't like it.

Mighty Mike and Silence put their heads together and came out with a super stable super fast rom based on 6.1 that I always go back to after trying the latest roms from the cooks because nothing is as fast as the mighty/silence rom. They have a kitchen out now for it too so you can cook whatever you want into it. The base is fantastic though, no SMS lag, no landscape lag, opera works perfect as does TouchFlo3d.

And may I say that World Card Mobile is fucking HOTNESS. I had no idea it was OCR until the other day when it was included on my current rom package.

I've messed around with the Tf3d configurator, but never really bothered trying to learn how to flash different roms. I'm sure I could figure it out, but I'd have to put a lot of time into it and/or worry about messing something up...so i never really bothered with it

I think I'm done with Manila, unless the VGA Rhodium port is stellar. PointUI is running 500 times better than I remember on my mogul and at least 5 times better than the current TF3D I have installed.(so far)

Plus this senseui suite/theme is so sexy.

this one has started giving me issues w/ overheat like the last one. if i go to the verizon store and try to get a replacement on warranty, are they gonna give me another 6800 or do y'all think i could get a touch pro? wondering if they even have 6800s around anymore.

But yeah, ^ is probably right about being out of Moguls 6800s. Even if they aren't and you're on the 4th one it shouldn't be hard to get the 6850 or whatever it is there.

I'm on my 4th HTC as well (third touch pro, first one of which replaced a 6800/mogul) and about to be on my 5th--the "new" (presumably refurb) phone I got last night has a fucked-up speaker that I didn't discover until later when setting up ring tones. The keyboard was dying on the mogul, TP 1 and 2 both had issues where the screen stopped responding to touch, and then there's the speaker issue on the one I got yesterday. HTC makes some cool hardware but their quality control and/or durability are shit. I like the functionality of the pro so I'll ride out this replacement cycle as long as I can, but I don't believe I'll ever put my money down for another HTC product.
