The Cinematic Orchestra - The Crimson Wing (OST) [2009]

http://rapidshare.com/files/181583111/TCOLAP_Vic.zip

Again, as much as I dickride them, I cannot express my love for the Cinematic Orchestra. Apparently they did the soundtrack for some French documentary, featuring the London Metropolitan Orchestra. I've not listened to it much, but the track or two I heard sounded beautiful.

I feel dirty for actually finding out about a band on Lambgoat but I checked out a band they reviewed recently that I hadn't heard of "Cougar Den" and the stuff I have heard on myspace I have loved.

I guess I would recommend it for any fans of Funeral Diner, Hot Cross, A Day in Black and White, An Albatross, Still Life, Sinaloa, etc. Its aggressive and raw but also melodic. Brings me back to HS days. They are also a 3piece.

"keepondrifter" is the name of the disc, and the myspace is http://www.myspace.com/cougarden

I need to pick up the album sometime soon to see how I like the rest of it, but I had a good vibe after the myspace previews.

finally got around to getting the animal collective yesterday and listened to it at work today and some more tonight. I definitely enjoyed it a lot but of course it has gotten talked up so much by nearly anywhere I read about music that it certainly didnt live up to the hype for me personally (at least not a 9.6/10 as pitchfork gave it).

2nd track was probably my favorite.

I can collect pubes for 3 years, dye em, weave into a line of exotic, lovely sweaters that everyone swoons over because they look so nice and resemble something familiar, but at the same time still different from anything out there. I could even make them disinfected and 100% safe, and all your friends have em', but that doesn't mean you gotta wear one, or like it.

nothing extremely notable, but I always get Thursday's new albums because of Full Collapse. After first listen through Common Existence its definitely decent compared to their last few. I dont think its going to be something that I will choose to listen to from my collection on a regular basis, but I give them props for continuing to work hard. Anyone who was a thursday fan at any point should give it at a listen at least.

^ same, full collapse is arguably my favorite album of all time...i'll have to check out the new one, their later cd's usually have a couple very solid songs

however, who all is excited for the new appleseed cast cd...i haven't stopped listening to "as the little things go"...this album is shaping up to be their best yet imo

Im very exctied for it; I always love the mood of their albums and the little bit ive heard so far is a good indication I will love this one too. "Raise the Sails" on their myspace at the moment is absolutely phenomenal and I still havent gotten around to checking out "as the little things go"...i think ill go grab that now.

first time through - epic, i love it. They really might hit a home run with this album. I expected a good album from them, but from a band with such a big catalog and who has been around for awhile, I kind of figured it would be one of those "good album but it doesnt stand out in their catalog" like a lot of bands would put out 8 records into their career. Cant wait to hear the rest after these first few songs...

Apparently QOTSA are remastering their debut album for a February release. Already been pushed back from November.

Also, the MONO recommendation was excellent, thanks for that.

I've been hearing good things about this album, has anyone else listened to it? (downloading now)

Timber Timbre -- Timber Timbre
hxxp://www.mediafire.com/?m4wilfqegmo

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=51599007

Quote :
"The band Timber Timbre hails from the northern border country of Canada and is releasing their new self-titled album on January 13.

The front man of this band, Taylor Kirk, creates a haunting version of rockabilly blues on the album. The entire album is made up of eerie songs that are influenced very much so by early blues players. In the song “Lay Down in the Tall Grass”, the combination of the choppy organ and the vocals resemble such early blues songs as “I Put a Spell on You” by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins. On the third track, “Until the Night is Over”, it is clear Kirk was influenced by the legendary Animals and their song “House of the Rising Sun”.

Timber Timbre is an interesting and entertaining listen. Who ever said Canadians could not sing the blues? It’s just not true, in fact, they take it to a whole other level. Check them out."

It sounds really interesting, and everyone I've heard comment on it has had nothing but good things to say.

If you like their new song you'll love "Halycon" which has a similar structure as most instrumental post-rock but almost drowns out the actual release with noise. Great contrasting styles in the song.

I really dig Bon Iver's new EP. I know there has been a lot of talk about his use of auto-tune or another vocoder on the track Woods but i really like it. It's haunting. I'm already ready for more from them.

another that can be compared to Bon Iver that i've been listening to lately is Cedarwell. http://www.myspace.com/cedarwell

^^^^ that's weird cuz i read a review where he backed their decision to sell their songs to commercials. something along the lines of they were pretty much willing to make money off their music anyway they could. he must have been in the fucked state of mind during the interview too, ha

honestly, I used to not hold this view but anymore I have no problem with a band letting their song be used in a commercial. Why not make money off of it? I could see if it was for a product you didnt want to support or if someone wanted to use it in a movie you didnt want it to be in sure.

As long as you dont change your creative focus with the intent of wanting to get in more commercials or tv shows or something, if you are just writing the music that you want to write and someone wants to use it, go for it.

Isn't it embarrassing how bad The Who, for example, sold out? Then again, I can't pretend to understand the forces driving some band trying to make it. There is that impulse to categorize one's own music as untouchable art, but shit, we're all capitalists here. In other words, I have nothing to add and there's nothing to see here.
