Welcome Garrett Anderson.

It’s a done deal, Anderson’s going to be here as early as tomorrow. He’s en route today, I’m told. Whether that means he’ll be introduced tomorrow, not certain. But likely.
Important thing is: He’s signed. And this isn’t a friend telling us.

It’s one year, $2.5 mill. Hey, at utility-infielder prices, not a bad pickup, eh? That’s half what Abreu got.

Garret Anderson is probably a lot better than people give him credit for. He just played in LA when they weren't all that great for a long time, and now he's old. Still putting up pretty good numbers though, and I'd gladly take his last years numbers this year, .293, 15, 84 2/22/2009 5:02:50 PM |

this new rotation has the potential to be absolutely dominant... and if the braves can actual play worth a shit, hopefully hudson will be back for the playoff race in august. I still don't understand why Diaz can't figure out how to be an everyday player.. and I'm really hoping G. Anderson isn't a total bust and that Francoeur doesn't suck a big one this year like he did last year. Personally, I think Schaeffer should get the start in center but it looks like it's going to be J. Anderson. Trading some of our overflow in the bullpin (Buddy, Acosta) or one of these outfield overflows (Blanco, Anderson) could let us beef up the bullpin because that's exactly what the Met's have done. As a Braves fan I always have high expectations.. I just hope this season isn't a total bust like last season. 3/24/2009 3:29:00 AM |

One week until Opening Day Night
Looks like Schafer has won the job in center
Quote : | "“He’s as good a defender in center field as you’d ever, ever want to have,” Cox said. “He’s that good. Andruw? This kid’s right there. And he throws well. He’s accurate. His arm is slightly above average and accurate. He runs very well and gets great jumps.”" |
Quote : | "The kid’s tooled out of his mind,” Braves catcher Brian McCann said. “He’s got every tool you could possibly ask for. He’s a great kid, and he wants to be a great player. That’s all you can ask for.”" |

^thats actually a year earlier than I thought... although even if hes not 100 percent ready, hes still better than any other option
anderson was out of options, so i assume that was why he was traded... he was starting to get up there in years anyways... Schafer is the future, and that apparently begins this year
I'm actually cautiously optimistic this year. I think we can at least be in the hunt.
Ready for Sunday!

I dunno if that pitcher will be any good, but losing Anderson is ok. I don't think he'll ever be a starter, but he's a good backup for most teams. Plus the Braves still have Blanco, Brandon Jones, and Jason Heyward (in a few years, he's only 19).
Just looking at the Braves site, Chipper's about to get an extension. 3/30/2009 11:56:53 PM |

Chipper has agreed to a 3-year extension.
According to Bowman, its 3 years $40 million, with an option for 2013.

I'm unrealistically optimistic about this year. Bullpen is strong, no stud starters but a lot of good arms, solid hitting, good backups all around, dunno about defense.. I'd guess 3rd in the NLE, but nothing would surprise me. 3/31/2009 7:05:37 PM |

quote of the year from mark bowman's blog
Quote : | "After Francoeur opened the back nine at Isleworth Country Club with consecutive birdies on March 4, (Tiger) Woods asked, "Who are you?" Francoeur, quickly responded, "I just wanted to see how the world's number one golfer reacts with his back up against the wall?" This prompted Woods to reply, "Yeah, well I was wondering how much time you plan to spend playing in Mississippi this year?" " |
