http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081106/ap_on_el_pr/president_north_carolina_1;_ylt=AjXwiem2U1JQEfPXjujZuwHCw5R4

RALEIGH, N.C. – President-elect Obama has won North Carolina, a symbolic triumph in a state that hadn't voted for a Democrat in more than a generation.

The Associated Press declared Obama the winner Thursday after canvassing counties in North Carolina to determine the number of outstanding provisional ballots.

That survey found that there are not enough remaining ballots for Republican John McCain to close a 13,693-vote deficit.

North Carolina's 15 electoral votes brings Obama's total to 364 — nearly 100 more than necessary to win the White House. Missouri is the only state that remains too close to call.

Obama's win in North Carolina was the first for a Democratic presidential candidate since Jimmy Carter won the state in 1976.

Winning by over 13,000 votes.....Id call that an Obama ass kicking!! Woo-hooo....GREAT JOB NC!!!

OBAMA'S CAMPAIGN WAS RUN WELL. THEY KNEW TO HIT COLLEGES AND THEY DID.

IMO THAT'S WHAT DID IT FOR HIM. THAT AND GETTING BLACK VOTERS TO TURN OUT IN HIGH NUMBERS.

LOW INCOME BLACK PEOPLE HAVE GENERALLY HAD LOW VOTER TURNOUT HISTORICALLY. IT MAKES SENSE, THEY DIDN'T ALWAYS HAVE THE TIME OR MONEY TO GET THERE, THEY MAY NOT HAVE HAD ACCESS TO INFORMATION ON THE CANDIDATES AND THEY MAY NOT HAVE EVEN CARED WHO GOT ELECTED IN THE PAST WHEN IT WAS ALL WHITE MALES RUNNING.

OBITCHFACE WAS ABLE TO GET A LOT OF GROUPS OF PEOPLE THAT DON'T NORMALLY VOTE TO TURN OUT IN MASSIVE NUMBERS. IN NC, THAT MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE. THERE ARE A LOT OF LOW INCOME BLACK FAMILIES AS WELL AS STUDENTS IN THIS AREA. IT TAKES A LOT TO TURN A HISTORICALLY REPUBLICAN VOTING STATE AROUND LIKE THAT AND I BELIEVE IT WAS HIS ABILITY TO GET THE PEOPLE WHO DON'T USUALLY VOTE TO TURN OUT SO MASSIVELY.

I had never been to Rocky Mount, but I can tell you that I was stationed at the JW Carter Junior High School.

Everybody was cool as hell to me though, except for the few poor white trash people that came to vote and saw my Obama credentials hanging from my neck.

13K out of 4M is not, in and of itself, an asskicking.

but... for the Dems to take NORTH CAROLINA -- long considered a Rep stronghold in any US Presidential election -- for them to take the state from right out under the GOP's nose...

THAT is just adding insult to injury to the Republicans in what was without a doubt the overall, single worst asskicking by a Dem since LBJ beat the snot out of Barry Goldwater in 1964

not that long mang... the only dem to win during this period was clinton (without NC) so i would think "stronghold" is probably a bit of a stretch...

one year ago, the mere suggestion of Obama taking NC would have been ridiculed.

obama's thorough asskicking of McCain is underscored by the fact that he ALSO took places like NC and Indiana, DESPITE the fact that these have long been considered republican strongholds in presidential politics.

AP CALLS IT! WELCOME TO THE NEWEST BLUE STATE!

Maps showing a tide of red across America make the Obama mandate look small. Scaling states by population shows the human, political reality much better:

Yeah, my bad. JW Parker.

It was surrounded by projects.

But like I said, everybody was really nice. One of the local church groups that were there instructing people how to vote even gave me a bag lunch.

i didn't realize the ratio of electoral college votes was equivalent to the ratio of popular votes and was therefore a representation of the "human" political reality
