Just because a film is animated doesn't mean that "should not be mentioned".

All films set up a world, and if something happens that's too far-fetched for the world that has been
set up, animated or not, then it could be a flaw. I'm not saying this happens in Up, but it's a perfectly
legit topic of discussion.

Not realism in the sense of "omfg, talking toys and rats and cars," but more self-contained I guess.

the only thing about the movie that didn't make sense is how Muntz was like 40 when Carl Frederickson was a kid and then appeared to be younger then Frederickson when they found him

It crossed my mind. I just assumed that Munz was in his late 20s and Carl was around 10 in the beginning.

That makes Carl 70+ and Munz a youthful 90ish invigorated by years of dog rape in the wilderness.

Three things.

1. Great movie. Funny and poignant.

2. There are differences between realism, plausibility, and internal consistency.

haha. agreed. which is why i get that no one is going to fly around in a house with balloons and land in the jungle and meet talking dogs, etc. but i enjoyed the relationships and the characters themselves. which to me, were not adversely affected by a creative though non-realistic (plausible, i suppose, for froshkiller) adventure. i mean, as stated previously, i enjoyed the entire film, even the crazy parts.

I hate to piss on your campfire, but the movie really wasnt that good. It was good for the first few minutes, then it (pun intended) deflated. I dont care about the realism aspect. Its animation, so I can expect silliness. But there wasnt much sense of adventure, or all that much of a great story. Not exactly sure why some of you like it so much.

Wall-E on the other hand, was the best thing they have put out, ignoring some of the ridculous political messages they were pushing (that I was able to just ignore because the film was so good).

Saw this last night and really enjoyed it. Good laughs, heartwarming, and that was my first experience with Disney Digital 3D which was very impressive and made it that much more fun. Gotta love Dug, I'm sure every dog owner was thinking, "that is exactly what my dog would sound like!"

I agree with those of y'all who said "Partly Cloudy" was awesome, I really enjoyed it.

You mean you watched the one that didnt talk about the writer's views on:
1) Gluttunous consumption
2) evils of capitalism
3) wastelands of garbage (kinda an early 90s fad)
4) Global warming and its consequences?

In case you didnt know, those are all political messages. Not to mention how society is getting fat and lazy and other messages here and there.

I can't remember the last time I went to watch a kids movie and didn't just enjoy it for what it is...a funny animated cartoon.

the dude plans to move his house to a bare rock with a waterfall. he's old, he can barely move around, and his diet is now limited to a variety of snakes, lizards, and rodents. It's just not a feasible "happily ever after." Now if he set the house down in a nice river valley in a temperate climate surrounded by deciduous forest, I'll accept it.

did the serious elements involving death not clue you in to the fact that he wasn't planning on
living "happily ever after" for years and years on a mountain in Venezuela?

Saw it tonight in the brand new glistening megatheater in roanoke rapids. And by brand new glistening megatheater, I mean the 50 year old moviehouse that was so nasty, my leg was sticking to the cloth seat.


that said, excellent movie, though pretty sad. I definitely got a little tear welling up a couple of times.

the short was cute, but far from pixar's best, but as marko stated earlier, "pixar's worst animated movie is better than dreamwork's best"

dug was my favorite character by far, and has earned a hostname on my home network, which is the BobbyDigital equivalent of an oscar.

saw it with the girl on Saturday and I definitely had a few tears sneak down my cheeks on more than one occasion during the movie. With that being said, I absolutely loved it. It was extremely entertaining, had some good messages, good music, and absolutely fantastic animation.

The talking dogs thing was a little "meh" to me, but that was about the only thing I didn't 100% enjoy in the entire movie. Plus, I know that they were probably trying to throw the kids a bone with that one, especially considering the fact that overall I felt this movie appealed more to adults than kids.

That leads me to my next statement. Probably the saddest part of the movie to me(I suppose spoiler?)...

Right after the funeral scene towards the beginning when he is just sitting there looking completely sad, I was already losing some of the tears I was trying to hold in my eye when a really cute little kid in the row in front of me says "why is he so sad daddy?"

i just saw it tonight. holy crap that is a sad movie...i mean happy in the end of course, but it had a few seriously sad parts. i was bawling like a baby.

really good movie. i like complete lack of realism, but i think they went overboard with the dogs. there were just too many.
