i'm waiting for the nvidia ion chipset (mentioned above)

i'd kinda like to see the dual-core intel atom processor (N330, IIRC) in one, as well, but it might defeat the purpose of a netbook (and it uses 8w instead of 2w for the N270 and 4w for N230)

^ Given how much these things cost, it's feasible to just buy one now and then buy the next iteration when they come out. Besides, I think the next iterations of the netbooks are at least 9 months out.

It's shipped! I went with white after reading a lot of reviews because the blue was too glossy and cheap looking compared to the matte white finish.

Just got my Samsung NC10 in the mail. LOVE IT. Not too much bloatware, only thing i uninstalled was the McAfee trial. I'm pissed though because the day after i ordered it newegg put the black ones up but i'm still loving the white. It's very sturdy and feels nicely built. Everything is a lot more zippy and responsive than i thought.

Grandmaster did you upgrade your ram to 2gbs?

I highly recommend running Ubuntu on netbooks. I'm running Ubuntu-eee on my Asus 1000HA.

^I thought about it but XP seems to run fine. I was just worried about certain features on linux. Like itunes/ipod touch or tethering it with my windows mobile phone. I just figured XP would be better. I might try a dual boot though.

Anyone have any good skinners they use with XP? I haven't used XP in a while but it's on my other laptop and i'm using windowblinds on that. I just can't stand how XP looks. Didn't know if a particular program used less resources or something.

Has anyone tried running Windows 7 on their netbook yet? Apparently there was a demo of just that at CES last week.

^i might try it. Does anyone know if the TD store has laptop ddr2 ram for these netbooks? I'd rather just pick up a 2GB module rather than ordering it.

the realtek ethernet/wireless card in the msi wind doesn't work in ubuntu, at least not without compiling your own drivers. i've wanted to run ubuntu but for now it looks like i'm stuck with windows xp.

^ I'm glad I don't have that problem with my Asus netbook. The reduced overhead in the ubuntu-eee build makes my netbook much more responsive than with the factory XP install.

^I'm not opposed to trying it. I have kbuntu on my desktop. How are the bluetooth/tethering programs? I have a windows mobile phone and it's so easy to get 3G on my netbook. Also what alternatives to itunes are there? I have an iPod touch and use it with my netbook.

I have had the Aspire One for a little over a month now, and I just can't find a reason to return it. At the time they only had the white model, so I figured I would give it a shot and most likely return for a different color if I liked it. But, now I like it so much I do not want to get rid of it.

The only downside is it only has 1 gig of ram that is not very easily upgradable, but it does the job for me and I don't feel it really needs more with what I do on it.

Just drove to Raleigh from Charlotte. Had my Samsung NC10 hooked up to my phone as a 3g modem listening to streaming NPR/Pandora the whole time. Only had to reconnect like twice. I'm loving this thing.

Anyone interested in windows 7 on thier sammy:

yeah, I'm still running XP on the Wind. I want to switch OS, but XP isn't giving me any shit whatsoever. I don't want to spend the time finding drivers for all the pretty lights, the wireless card, bluetooth, etc...so I might keep XP for a while longer.

I've got the 2 big black blotches on the lower left 1/4th of my screen with the Samsung NC10. From what i've heard all of a certain batch has them. Kinda pisses me off, but Samsung offered to get UPS to pick it up and return it within a week. Just annoying not having it for a week.

^ maybe free for you, but not for the recipient.

in most cases it's something like number@provider... if you know the network of your recipient, that helps.

Anyone have any recommendations for cases?
I have been using the sleeve for the nc10. I put in my backpack and had a close call with someone almost stepping on it today. The more padding the better, I don't really care how it looks (unless its pink )

portable dvd player case on clearance for like $4 worked for me

So reassuring to hear of all of the satisfied NC10 owners. I was skeptical a bit at first, especially since I paid more than I wanted to and didn't even get black (UK only at the time).

Windows 7 is running fantastic. Still fiddling trying to get the battery manager to work, but display and everything else is fine. neodata, did you ever get your LCD smudge problem taken care of? That's the one good thing about having bought it from our CDW rep. If anything at all goes wrong I know I won't have to deal with any kind of hassle for the return.

^^Check and see if you have the spots.

^I upgraded to 2 gigs of ram and i have no trouble using newsgroups, playing music, watching SD videos. I was even able to play half life and some newer games.

List of games that work on the MSI wind. Very impressive list:
http://pcgamers.co.za/2008/12/28/netbook-gaming-msi-wind/

It tells you which games have low frame rates. I was surprized it said half-life 2, C&C3 could both be played just fine.

After owning an EeePC 1000HD now for over two months, I have to say that I'm still pretty happy with it. I upgraded it to 2 GB of RAM, and it's remained pretty snappy for my day-to-day needs. I much prefer carrying it to campus for regular meetings, note-taking, etc. Exactly the right machine at the right price for me.

Ok so I have a hugeeee problem.

I got the HP Mini, i know it doesnt have a ton of space, Im actually carrying it back today, I just needed something for last night.

the problem I have is that the sound, when plugged into an external unit such as a surround sound or the DJ system we use...the sound is absolutely TERRIBLE.

it has no bass, sounds like you are in a barrel.

anyone know what may be the case? is it just the sound cards in the netbooks are that bad?

should i stick with a regular laptop? thinking about exchanging to the Acer 1 if i keep a netbook

helpppp plz
