it almost sounds like a lot of you ruined your own movie experience by reading too much about the movie on the internet.

Although I did watch Terminator 1 recently I actually didn't see a single trailer before I saw this movie nor did I know about all the rumors and studio politics. I didn't know Marcus was a terminator until it was revealed in the story. I had genuine surprise. That's probably why I have a much higher opinion of this movie than everyone else here. I thought there was a decent amount of character development and a lot of continuity with Terminator 1 (like the picture of Sarah Conor and the recordings). The acting was no worse than anything else out there.

I think they should have done something about all those white ass teeth. It was distracting me, dirty characters living out of garbage cans and their teeth are snow white.

I give this movie 3 out of 5 stars. The camera work and special effects were really good. I thought the scene at the beginning where theres all out war was very impressive. The camera work during the helicopter crash scene was pretty damn good. It was transitioning from inside to outside the heli seamlessly and nothing was jumping out saying, "Hey Im CG".

I think I have to agree with earlier posts that a lot of the movie was cut. For example, the scene where John Connor is dropped in the ocean to rondevu with the sub. It cuts directly from him landing in the ocean to stepping into the sub.

The best way to rank this movie is to compare to previous Terminators. Terminator 2 is still tops, that movie was fucking awesome. T-1000 was the most badass villian ever.

1st - Terminator 2
2nd - Terminator
3rd - Terminator Salvation
4th - Terminator 3

Ohhh yeah, did anyone else notice that Sam Worthington looks a lot like Philip Rivers?

Being unemployed has put a hamper on my movie watching. I was able to go see Star Wars, but havent seen one since, and I wanted to go see this one.

I guess the next good crappy movie to look forward to is Transformers 2.

i thought it was sort of a spoiler (my own fault) seeing that Bale had already signed on for a 5th film on IMDB before i saw this movie

so the Marcus Wright heart transplant thing was seen a mile away

Since they were doing a trilogy, I'm surprised they felt compelled to cover so much ground in one movie. It would have been better had they spent the first movie covering more character development, with plenty of action of course, but ending basically with the big reveal that Marcus is indeed a terminator (worst kept secret since Shia LeBeuf being Indy's son, btw). Second movie covering their attempt to infiltrate Skynet and ending w/ Marcus finding out what happened to him and that he was a pawn all along.

Don't worry, it's better than T3. T3 was completely mediocre, this was just a letdown. The cast was great, great SFX, but the plot was just lacking and if you watch it you can just see the potential for a kick ass movie was just wasted.

Did anyone think it was strange that John Connor was surprised to see a cyborg terminator? He made the statement after discovering that Marcus Wright was a terminator, "I thought I knew my enemy. But that thing, it makes me feel like I know nothing." This does not make sense because as a teenager in Terminator II, John Connor was protected by T-800, a cyborg who was half machine half human. I know this is not the most obvious plot hole, but it bothered me.

I think I would explain by the fact that the Arnie terminator knew what it was and it was far less animated than Sam Worthington. I think one of the things that bothered me was that, despite the fact that Sam was built w/ the same technology as other terminators, his movements were so much more human-like. There was no point in the movie, or in previous terminator movies for that matter, where you saw terminators dive, duck, run, or move quite like Marcus. He was original in that his organs were human but this bone structure should have had all the limitations of the machines.

The thing here is the programming difference between a brain and a machine, in my opinion. The robotic limbs can do all sorts of movements, but it comes down to the controller being able to manipulate them to their limits or specified motions. Since he has a human brain, it wants to move like a human does. The T-800 brain isn't concerned with that and only for no wasted movement...kinda like the difference in movement between traditional robots and bio-inspired robotics.

I mean, I don't mind T3 at all. Like I've said, T3 is a good action movie with a kickass ending. Not on par with T2, but still decent. Still haven't seen this. but from what I understand the ONLY not TERRIBLE thing is Yelchin. perhaps i'll see it tuesday.

I wish that the theatrical version of T2 had included the deleted scene of an elderly Sarah Connor on a park bench in 2029 reflecting on the alternate future that they lived in.

Maybe that would have ended the franchise where it should have ended: at the end of the movie where they said that it had ended.

What annoyed the piss out of me was that in the first movie they gave an impression that after Judgment day, mankind was an endangered species, hiding under heavy fire from search-and-destroying machines, but in this movie, they have fucking helicopters, airplanes, runways, hangars, submarines, pretty much a fully functional military at their disposal.

And when the girl pilot was with marcus and they made camp while burning a fire at night, where were the robots then? infrared sensors, my ass.

and the whole scene where bale and the crew were chasing and shooting after the pilot and marcus had absolutely NO FUCKING POINT. i mean, what the fuck, where the hell were the damn machines to pick up on all this commotion in the woods? there was a complete lack of "oh my god, the machines are everywhere, we are being hunted" feeling and more of a "lets go infiltrate that distant enemy's base"

The machines are not everywhere.

To build the infrastructure to produce a mechanical army that is wide spread and all seeing would take more years than have past at this point in the movie.

He specifically points out what bothers him about it. Its the organs. The T-800 does not have any organs. Only the skin covering metal. The fact that he could look and see the heart beating really unnerved him.

And obviously he was programed to behave a lot like a human.

I haven't watch T4 yet but isn't it set in 2019? In T1, if I remember correctly, the future scenes were from 2029. So maybe in those 10 years, the humans were getting their ass kicked.

^^^ from what I recall, humans had actually turned the tide and they sent the t-101 back in time as a last ditch effort to change the outcome of the war.

was the girl pilot a girl before she ejected from the jet? I thought I hearse a masculine voice on the radio and then BAM! its a girl to move the plot along...

And Kyle reese was kinda annoying... He basically repeated what everyone told him and he really didn't do anything to earn the jacket... The mute kid did more to save everyone than Kyle did...

And they didn't even really try to use that secret frequency to shut things down...for such an important plot device it just seemed to disappear...

And you would think that for being machines that they would be way more interconnected and more efficient in killing people instead of just surveilling them on a computer in their complex... They even knew what everyone in the world looked like but didn't seem to really use that advantage as well as they could have...

what do you mean? they tried it small scale, then tried it on a H.K. and it seemed to work. so they tried it widescale and shit hit the fan. were you not paying attention as to why it didn't work or are you asking something else?

It didn't seem like they really tried it wide scale because

1. Connor told everyone not to attack, and

2. The machines knew where they were all along and then blew up the sub before they could do anything about it (I mean they did receive that communication that everyone on the sub would be dead in a week...how else were they going to get killed?)

If they turned it on and that's how the sub was found then that makes sense because I figured it was a ploy all along, but that sequence where the cyborg dude finds out what's really going on happened so quickly that maybe it just passed me by...

Also, themany of the scenes and transitions between scenes were horrible. Between the white flashes after the dude dies and mcg reminds you that he's directing, to the scene to black where the commercial break will be when it gets put on tv, to the "He's gonna jump in the ocean but we're not going to show you how he gets in the sub because...well, we don't really know," scene, to the "we just beat up those guys and now we're gonna make a camp fire over here" scene, to the "hey, I found skynet. now I'm in the main computer room, now I got a tune up, and oh--they're not really going to force me to kill john Connor? Nor are they goinng to really try and stop me from helping him until I get there and start fighting"

The machines weren't really that smart...

If they were, they would have killed Kyle reese on the spot instead of taking him hostage.

They would have known marcus was one of them since the beginning sand not shot at him.

Upon syncing with marcus they would have programmed him to kill john Connor.

Upon not doing the above, they would have terminated marcus so he couldn't help Connor.

How did they know that Kyle reese was john connor's father in the first place?

The only really great thing about this movie was the seamless CGI--everything looked pretty real. Too bad the story was dumb...
