definitely felt like the twins were over the top and slightly offensive - although kinda funny - was surprised that they were received well in theater.

I loved it.

Although the one part that kind of ruined it for me is when I saw them in Giza then suddenly they're in Sinai...I was like WTF? thats a 7 hour drive...but then after a while i figured they just moved Cairo to Sinai and called it a day

'Transformers' bows to $60.6 million

Quote :
"Grossing $60.6 million, Paramount's sequel 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' easily scored the best opening day ever for a Wednesday release at the domestic box office, according to preliminary estimates.

Previous record-holder was 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,' which grossed $44.2 million when opening on a Wednesday in July 2007."

Listen dude, I'm sure you're enjoying whatever offbeat, pretentious foreign film they're showing at Galaxy this week that's trying to explain the existential nature of the color purple, clutching your Independent film review which tells you it's great - maybe even the next Donnie Darko or whatever shit movie people are trying to force meaning into this week.

But here's the deal.

This is a movie about large robots fighting while hot chicks run around in slow motion. It's a movie about explosions and how big we can make them. It's a movie every critic should pan in a review, because it's not a critic's movie -- it's got a slapped together plot, cliche ending, and minimal character development. It was made for people who want mindless summer fun, and it's an excellent example of that.

^woops, missed my edit window:

movies are made to make money. reviews are nothing but somewhat informed opinions on the quality of movies, from people that watch an obscene amount of movies. Sometimes written to hype films, sometimes written to guide people that listen to them about whether they should see said movie. Sites like rotten tomatoes are indeed kind of silly, as the various reviewers use all kinds of varying criteria. The best reviews are the ones that discuss the various reasons anyone might want to see a movie and gauge how well the film works in those departments. No movies are "intended to [be] reviewed."

And it's not like all reviewers are devious machines out to trick you.

god, i'm so fucking tired of this artificial division between pretentious art-house films vs. big dumb action movies.

i really, really wanted to like the first transformers but it was impossible to follow the action, and if i can't follow the action, what's the point?

Did you watch it from the first row of an IMAX theater? It's not like the first Transformers was in the Bourne trilogy.

Exactly. It's no different than the first one at all.

I haven't been to the galaxy in months, since seeing awesomeness in "The Wrestler" and fucking terrible shit in "The Reader" in March or so.

Donnie Darko is also garbage.

Sorry but my not liking a single action movie that you like doesn't make me a total art-house-fag or whatever. I work at a theater that plays mainstream films and have liked everything I've actually seen lately(Star Trek, Up, Hangover, DMtH, Taking of Pelham 123 despite the shitty silly out-of-nowhere superhero movie ending) except Terminator 4(OH FUCK I AM FAGGOT NAO?).

I meant to get my edit in before the 30 minutes, I typed it and left and forgot to actually post it =X.

But still. Movies can be fun and yay explosions and yay tits and action and still be quality. It's just frustrating that nobody involved in the transformers series seems to give a shit, apart from Michael Bay's dick measuring contest with McG.

did we watch the same movie? the one i'm remembering has lots of shaky-cam, super-fast MTV editing, and indistinct transformers.

i'll probably redbox this because the pyramid/desert action scenes look pretty sweet. i just hate that no one is allowed to criticize the transformers franchise without being labeled a film snob.

I have never read or looked at a movie review in my life because I am perfectly capable of deciding if a movie is going to be at least worth giving it a fair shot based on the preview or synopsis of the story.

I don't need some prick telling me what movie I will and will not like.

Really. By you people's definition no movie is bad:

Battlefield Earth: Were you expecting Citizen Kane! It was a movie about John Travolta being an alien that hates man animals, and as such it WAS EXCELLENT!

Glitter: Who cares about the plot, you go for the songs. This file was epic.

Wild Wild West: How dare you not like it. It had some action parts and an explosion or two, more than I can say about your precious Casablanca.

etc.

Of course there's a market for everything.

EDIT: Might as well toss Batman & Robin on the pile of "awesome" movies - since it had action and all.

Sorry, that last one was just mean.

I was glad to see they cut down on the shaky cam/indistinct fight sequences. Not being able to see the giant robots fight was my biggest complaint about the first one cause if you can't get that right in Transformers well then we don't even need to get into story and character development.

I thought the Bad Boys 2 poster being on a college dorm room wall was the most unrealistic part. Think Michael Bay realizes College Freshmen were in middle school when that came out?

I don't understand why this wasn't their first course of action upon learning of giant robots from space attacking things. I have a hard time believing that they would need convincing to use it.

"Hey you know what would be a good idea against the big space robots? That rail gun we have"

"i don't know, do you think now is the right time?"
