I was one of about a dozen blacks at my 400 person boarding school so they expected all of us to be the next coming of Bo Jackson

I could barely touch the rim on a good day

I was the Greg Paulus of Carmichael. Short, white, decent mid-range shot, ball handling skills of a paraplegic.

There had been rumors off and on about Williams transferring for 3-4 months now. I didn't think it would actually happen though.

and then I remembered that so do we, and it made sense.

At least we get a game against an SEC team in Auburn, who was actually decent last year, well for an SEC team that is.

I know we were going to be in some tournament in Hawaii, but I guess that got nixed. I kind of wonder if that was due to the economy.

FSU was in this tournament in 2007. Ole Miss and Utah were in it in 2009. Yeah it's not a great tournament, but some wins in this tournament style setting could help prepare them for the ACC Tournament and any post season tournament we may get into. I would have rather been in the Hawaii tournament with USC, but I'm guessing this was the best thing we could get on short notice. It would be nice to be in the Maui or Jimmy V Classic one day though.

Who the fuck is Glenn Wilkes? And why are people calling this a tournament? It's not even a bracket.

We're basically playing 2 shitty teams and one decent team from the shittiest of shitty power conferences away from home.

[Edited on July 16, 2009 at 2:58 PM. Reason : lol, its $60 for tickets to the entire tournament.]

No big shocker but Memphis will be forced to vacate their NCAA appearance two years ago and championship game berth.

Cal is 2-for-2 now. His only other Final Four "appearance" was vacated because Camby got paid before going and banged out some coked out prostitute with Edgar Padilla and Carmelo Travieso on campus on Cal's dollar.

UK better hold off on ordering those banners when/if they win something here in the next few years...

"I think Coach Cal just trusts his players to much for his own good. But how can you blame a good Christian for trusting his fellow man? It's in the bible and those are words we have to live by. Cal is an honest man and that's enough for me.

Wow. I just checked out UConn's OOC schedule and while the Big East will be down UConn has the following OOC:

LSU
Duke
Michigan
Kentucky
Texas

That is fucking nuts. They should be good again this year (maybe even as good as last year IMO because the offense can run a lot smoother and Dyson will be healthy and stronger) so it should be fun.

Awesome article. Apparently Michael Jordan chose his idol David Thompson to be the person that introduces him when he is inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, which Thompson is already a member of. It's awesome that he chose him over Dean Smith, Phil Jackson, etc. Despite what Jordan has done in his personal life and as part owner of the Bobcats, you can't help but like the man as a basketball player. He acknowledges those that came before him and knows the history of the game. It would be great if more of today's players were like that.

Sidney now "not certified due to non response"

The NCAA has declared Renardo Sidney "not certified due to non response" and promised to keep him that way until it receives copies of the financial documents it has requested, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

"We've asked for additional information and have not received it," NCAA spokeswoman Stacey Osburn said. "When and if we get it, we'll review those documents. If we don't, he remains not certified."

This development marks the strongest indication yet that the NCAA is determined to make the Sidney family explain how it moved from a modest home in Mississippi to a house in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles valued at more than $1 million. It has been reported that the family paid a rent of between $4,000 and $5,000 per month despite there being no obvious way for them to afford such a luxury.

Predictably, an investigation was launched.

As part of that investigation, the NCAA has asked for tax returns and bank statements, but the lawyer representing the family (Don Jackson) has refused to provide either. Put simply, that's the problem. And there doesn't seem to be an imminent solution, because Jackson hinted again Thursday that he will file a lawsuit against the NCAA before he turns over the financial documents requested.

"The bottom line is, they are not going to get income tax returns or bank statements," Jackson told the Clarion-Ledger . "And if this ultimately means that this case has to wind up in court, it will just have to wind up in court."

I'm sure most of you have seen this, but ESPN and Jeff Sagarin ranked us as the #22 bball program all-time. I personally disagree, seeing as how there are a number of programs ahead of us that don't have the number of national championships or even final fours as us. How in the world is Iowa, Minnesota, St. John's, Purdue (yeah I know they've won the Big Ten regular season the most, but they have never won a national championship, and have only been to two FFs, 1969 and 1980), Notre Dame, Utah, and Oklahoma ahead of us. And for that matter how in the fuck is Illinois ahead of Duke. I know that there is some stupid formula that Sagarin used, but national championships trump everything. No one out there with a sane mind would even think of putting Illinois and Iowa in the top ten, let alone have Illinois above Duke.

http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2009/1004/cbe1.pdf

We need to poll skew and re-rank us higher. Basically here's what you do, rank State #1 and then rank 4 other teams, preferably terrible teams that are below us in the 2-5 spots. You only have to rank 5 teams.

Use this thread for games or a new Perpetual Games... thread? Your call Brass.

Anyway, my amended Preseason Top 5 with thoughts:

1) Kansas - don't need to say much. We all know about Aldrich, Taylor and Collins. I expect Henry to be a very good scorer right from the start and they are odds-on favorites for the national title.

2) Texas - They have, bar none, the best perimeter in the country. I'm still a bit confused as to why Jai Lucas decided on Texas. He'll probably still get no run. But anyway, Avery Bradley and Jordan Hamilton are going to be absolute studs. A Big XII top-2. Don't see that very often in a sport with a Top 5-10 dominated by the ACC and Big East typically.

3) Kentucky - this is tricky. They have more raw talent than anyone in the country. But is the game played with enough basketballs? I don't know. With Patterson back, they have at least SOME upperclass experience, but how is Scummer going to mix in Orton, Cousins and especially Wall. I think ultimately they won't make the Final 4 but talent-wise alone I have to have them up here. Even if I'm wrong and they do make the Final 4, it'll just be vacated within three seasons anyway.

4) Villanova - My first Big East team makes an appearance. Experience with Reynolds, Fisher, Stokes and Redding. Absolute stud freshmen in Yarou (a lot of people just don't realize how good he is) and Cheek. And a coach who, in my opinion, is one of the Top 5 in the country in terms of playing to his personnel's strengths.

5) Michigan State - Morgan, Roe and Summers give a pretty good core. Big 10 is soft and Izzo always seems to get his teams up here. I don't even really know how. Honestly, Big 10 basketball is like watching paint dry, so I try not to focus on it. Fuck 'em.

Waiting list:

UNC - very young, high potential. I think they are a borderline Elite 8 team, but it's a down year as far as depth in the country, so you have to include them here. Ed Davis will be an absolute stud and Henson is versatile and long but I'm not sold on Zeller and certainly think the Wear brothers are some of the more overrated recruits in recent memory.

UConn - tricky. Upperclass elite talent in Dyson and Robinson. A top backcourt with the aforementioned Dyson and Kemba Walker. The issue, which is odd for UConn, is at C. Who fills the very, very large void left by Thabeet's departure. I'm hearing Gavin Edwards will start, but he is more of a PF and not exactly an intimidating force. With four highly athletic new players coming in to the program along with the already explosive trio of Walker/Dyson/Robinson I'd expect this to be a VERY fast team running/pressing/trapping nearly every trip down the court. I've seen preseason power rankings with them as high as 3 and as low as 25. Your guess is as good as mine, but the talent is there.

I'm sorry. That would be nova. I don't see how anyone would argue that considering they arguably had the best backcourt last year and brought them back and added a stud. Maybe you are just counting 2 players as a backcourt.

I would argue Kentucky's is probably 2nd best considering bledsoe and wall are widely regarded as guys that would see big minutes on any nba team RIGHT NOW. Kentucky's will certainly look a lot better since they are playing with the best frontcourt in the nation.

[Edited on October 16, 2009 at 11:31 PM. Reason : nvm. you said perimeter so theres no way its not nova.]

I'm talking 1-3.

I like Nova, but Texas has crazy depth at all three perimeter positions

Balbay, Lucas, Bradley, Mason, Hamilton, James... damn that is deep.

We can use this as the thread for games. Doesn't really matter to me though.

I think KU, MSU, and UK are the teams I'd have in my top 3. I don't know who out of the Big East will be the best, but Nova certainly looks good and should be a top 10 team this year, perhaps top 5.
